  1. Also highly recommend this school. My son went at yr 3 after Dulwich village infants. Within one term they had picked up a serious problem with his motor function, referred him to sunshine house for a full functional assessment and set out a remedial programme that has set him in good stead for his future studies. At Dulwich village infants he was set extra homework for not trying hard enough.
  2. There is a cat outside my house that closely resembles your description, he seems hungry please call me on 07796863425 for pics
  3. I think you have to wait til the license is granted gloves, but fear not there will be at least 3 other festivals of a similar length and size to entertain you!
  4. Following a local meeting on monday, it seems that Lambeth council are considering a ten year licence for field day festival to be held on brockwell. This festival will have a 3 week build, is expecting 45,000 people over three days and will take 1/3 of the park. There will be 8 stages hospitality tents, alcohol and food concessions and toiletting. Brixton water lane will be closed and tens of thousands of people guided to the event. The festival is moving from Victoria park which is twice the size of brockwell, there will be no concessions for the much smaller more residential area. This is not the only festival planned over the summer so one of our local parks will be out of commission for much of the summer. A new Facebook page Brockwell tranquility has been created to disseminate information and gauge local reaction, please visit!!!
  5. Hi nunhead mum It is possible to keep them outside with a bit of work. The best thing is to commit to one or the other, they don't do well with drastic changes in temperature. Inside a play house is good, use duvets or rugs to cover, stuff with hay and use snuggle pads to keep up warmth. I kept mine outside for one winter but I brought them in because I didn't like traipsing out to them in the dark and wet and felt that their quality of life was not good, they're much more fun in with us and part of the family.
  6. We had several wonderful holidays at mousses in lefkas in greece. Small community of houses round a pool with kids club. Our kids met lots of friends and raced around, a restful holiday that we thought would never happen!
  7. Another vote for bessemer, very happy child in yr 4, v diverse, many Asian families. Also as the proud owner of a teenager in herne hill, I have to disagree, it's wonderful transport links mean teens can get anywhere in london and there is plenty here for teens, lido park cafes sports facilities.
  8. Let it go, (sings) haven't we wrung enough mileage out of this already? It's decided, it's done, let's move on.
  9. No, we didn't, that's why we went to Bessemer, and it has been a blessing, my daughter went through the hamlet and I wasn't impressed.
  10. Hi, my child loved dvis and was very happy there, but they completely missed his handwriting problems. It was noted from reception that his handwriting was extremely poor and asked us to practice at home, but no further action. He started at Bessemer in year three, his handwriting issues were picked up in the first term, he was referred to occupational therapy, had a full movement assessment at sunshine house and is now learning to touch type and has writing practice three times a week. It would have been better had the intervention come earlier but we are getting there. I am very grateful to Bessemer as it could have had serious ramifications on his school life.
  11. verds, thats what I thought too, luck cant be relied on! vbj there were 40 extra applicants for the hamlet this year, children from all the schools in lambeth and southwark, we're only 10 mins walk away and didnt get in. pleases dont end up in this position, its unbelievably stressful.
  12. Speaking as a parent whose child was at dvis, and who didnt get a place at the Hamlet, I would strongly advise you to go with the nearby school that takes you to year 6. We are now in the position of having to scout round for school places, ironically, Heber is an option, but living in Herne Hill it is a good 30 mins walk away! Dont ever assume you will get in at the Hamlet, 8 families are still looking for schools for september! you may end up with something you are not happy with.
  13. in reply to you fapl, who knows where the children go who dont get places at the hamlet. This is our position and I expect what will probably happen is that we will be offered the places at the schools others have moved from that will not be our choice or convenient. I am at a loss as to why people would move their children mid schooling unless the4y werent happy with the school. I bear no feelings of ill will towards people who choose to move their children, just utter amazement that there is no automatic admission between the two schools. It is very difficult to explain to a seven year old why he cant join his friends and has to start all over again with a school that is in all probability a long way away. Many of the children are in this position and I think it is a disgrace that they are treated this way.
  14. Hi everyone I am replying as i am a volunteer with whippersnappers at college lodge, I work two days a week doing all kinds of things and I would like to reply to some of the above comments. Whippersnappers is a not for profit organisation. All the profits made are ploughed back into the organisations work with children with disabilities. there are holiday playschemes outings and workshops, all free to children with disabilities. Whippersnappers also works closely with local special schools in lambeth and southwark, who use the premises in the park so that local children can experience cooking and life skills classes. Older people also have provision through subsidised lunch and activity clubs. The premises is also used by groups of adults with severe disabilities who can visit the picture gallery and have somewhere to have a cup of tea and specialised changing facilities. College lodge is beautifully refurbished so that it is accessible to all with lifts and specialised adult changing stations. Nobody who works there is interested in profit for its own sake, and I would warmly invite anyone to drop in and meet us and see some of the work that we do. Whippersnappers will always listen to the local community, its why we are there, and we will listen now. I certainly wouldnt waste my time working for free if I didnt feel it was worthwhile, so come along and meet us, and make up your own mind!
