  1. I hope this new place will serve decent, inexpensive (healthy) food in addition to coffee. It will be right by Peckham Rye park, and the new cafe there is almost a victim of its own success. I waited 45 minutes last week for a sandwich to be made. In the end I told them I had to go and would have a sandwich at home instead. Good to hear there will be another coffee shop near by too.
  2. I agree Bob (as far as cookware is concerned). However, all my cheap wine glasses are still intact whereas the expensive ones all break - or are broken. The same goes for crockery. I don't bother buying expensive stuff anymore. However, I do use Le Creuset cookware and swear by it.
  3. I think that one should live and let live, especially in cyberspace.
  4. Thank you Sean. That sounds like my kind of shop. I shall check it out next time I am in Peckham.
  5. "I dont like that area personally, and do not feel safe there." Alan Dale, how is that an 'irrationally strong opinion"????? I DO have strong opinions - but I am afraid that is not 'strong' by a long shot!!! How you can think it is, is beyond me!
  6. The less discerning Bob might also do as I do and get a lot ofstuff from Freecycle. I just got 3 Le Creuset pans in fact!! Actually, I am jesting with regards to IKEA as I haven't been there for ages, but I am referring to the fact that you can get cheap white crockery, glasses etc. there and not pay extortionate prices. Still, I work in the public sector and don't have money to burn. However, granted that all these relatively useless shops do look 'pretty', and are good for house prices.
  7. It is 'great' IN YOUR OPINION Alan Dale. It is not 'great' in my opinion. I am hardly 'jealous' of a road which has a poodle parlour and close proximity to Peckham High Street. I thought you were into defending Camberwell anyway.
  8. Who is 'disparaging' the DDs and YMs??? I am saying that not every kid has such a fortunate background as little 'Sam' and 'Isabella'. They are lucky that they have 'hands on ' parents. Many kids in the SE15 and SE22 areas are not so lucky, and are allowed to congregate in big groups, often late at night, which intimidates people. Please do not misconstrue my points nero. Glad to have clarified that. Thank you.
  9. The majority of young people are great. It's just a small minority that are 'lawless', and one should blame the parents. When I am driving (especially through Peckham) late at night I am stunned to see how many young kids are out on bikes at say 11PM. One only has to see and hear what the local Kids Company charity does with young kids to know that some kids round here have a terrible family life. It is easy to close your eyes to what is going on when one sees the 'Dulwich Dads' and yummy mummy types traipsing up L.ship Lane.
  10. I have never seen anyone in the kitchen shop opposite Cafe Nero. The thing is you can buy Le Creuset kitchen stuff hugely cheaper online. I feel a bit sorry for some of the independent shops, which admittedly do look rather 'pretty'. However, perhaps they should do their research before opening up round here. We absolutely don't need any more trinket or kitchen type sshops. The discerning amongst us will go to IKEA or buy online.
  11. Bellenden Belle, if you are going to direct comments towards me suggesting I am lying then please state it explicitly. Just because we happen to disagree on most things on here, does not mean that everyone feels the same way. This is a forum, and people should be allowed to contribute regardless of whether a certain 'clique' agree or disagree with comments. If you would like the phone numbers of the said people who were mugged at knifepoint I will give you them (one is now in Australia and lets his flat out on Adys Rd). You have NO RIGHT to pour disdain on my points and my opinions. The original poster asks for people's opinions on said area - and if YOU don't like my opinion then tough. Many people obviously like the 'Bellenden Regenerated area' and that's fine. Each to their own. Of course it's 'near' to East Dulwich, but London can change dramatically in just one or two roads. And I say this as one who was born and bred in the area.
  12. A very interesting posting scruffy, and good for you embracing the multi cultural element of the area. Anyway, I didn't mention that acquaintances of mine who live in Adys Rd, Maxted Rd, and Nigel Rd have either been knived on their doorsteps or mugged by knifepoint on their roads. Obviously this can happen anywhere, but I do not know of anyone who has been knived early evening near me.
  13. Not really Sean, if you take it personally that someone doesn't like your area then that is rather silly, and prissy. My area used to be called a lot worse, and possibly still is, and I couldn't give a toss, frankly.
  14. I dont like that area personally, and do not feel safe there. I toyed with the idea of moving there a while back as it is still a bit cheaper than where I currently am in ED. However, I opted to stay put. I know that people harp on about the regenerated 'Bellenden area' but I think it is quite overrated. In short, it is Peckham SE15! The old adage that you can't polish a turd still stands - in my humble opinion.
  15. -- moved topic --
  16. Domitianus, I can see what you're saying about an M&S, although they pack a lot of E numbers into many of their foods, which surprises me. I would love the area to have:- 1: a fantastic quirky 'vintage' shop - the kind of thing you'd find in Brighton 2: I've already said a Fresh n Wild aka Wholefoods 3: a really super bakery selling great quality, though not exorbitantly prices, breads and cakes. One thing that we don't have is homogeny on the High Street, which is a good thing. However, we DO (I think) have an abundance of pointless trinket and kitchen shops and estate agents. There are some chain shops which I think are OK, and I would not be dismayed at an M&S or a Wagamama opening up.
  17. Who knows. If Foxtons manages to make some of the existing estate agents defunct, then we may get our wishes for some of the shops mentioned. However, as has been said on another thread, the new shop in LL 'Sugar' is another trinket shop. Tsk.
  18. Domitianus, rob possibly means a pub that hasn't been trendified or turned into a gastro place.
  19. Yes Lozzy, if only Sommerfield was a Waitrose. In my opinion, Sommerfield is a horrible supermarket with vile quality food. Waitrose on the other hand is fab. By the way Frisco. "horrific suburban high streets" do not have Space NKs and Jones the Bootmakers on them! I'd love a Fresh n Wild aka Wholefoods market in the area. It would do really well.
  20. Yes but Sean, alan is perhaps referring to how useful these shops are - and certainly they are more useful than trinket shops and estate agents. However, I dislike the pizza chains, like Pizza Express and Ask.
  21. Rob, spot on. I couldn't agree more!! Please tell me you are in a position to influence these kinds of businesses opening up!!
  22. Yes that is true peckhamboy. A nice 'ORGANIC' bakers would suit the area down to the ground!
  23. Hilarious Bob. Yes I'll take the slamming my fingers in the fridge and tipping a bowl of jelly over my head option. Anyway, my coffee machine froths milk, though I never bother with it. I believe Moo also has Alessi products; in my opinion garish plastic tat from Italy at huge cost.
  24. For those of you who moan (me included) about the proliferation of estate agents and trinket shops in the area, what shops or businesses could we do with in the area that would prove USEFUL? Which shops could we do without, again in your opinion? I know the sweet shop is 'good for house prices' and looks 'pretty' but..... I am quite happy with the 'new' fishmongers, butchers, shoe shop, (not the one near me in Northcross though - it is IMO so POINTLESS selling 'orrible Crocs). I have also been a big fan of the Northcross Grocers for many years standing. Chris the owner is consistently friendly and nice too.
