  1. Interesting new development.....have just discovered that even though I thought my phone line was up and running, turns out that I have a line, but am on someone elses phone number!!! BT have somehow managed to mix up several peoples lines in the area. So, if I dial my landline number from my mobile, instead of hearing my house phone ring, I am instead connected to another east dulwich household! Fun and games....I'm hoping though that this mix up may be the reason why my Internet connection hasn't been working....
  2. Thanks nunhead-man. Yup-sky provide my broadband. I'm currently waiting for them to call me back....30mins and counting...ooh, they've just called ad our sending an engineer tomorrow apparently. Even when I was using the router through a wired connection it still wasn't giving me internet access, so something is definitely up. Fingers crossed they can sort it tomorrow!
  3. I seem to have my phone line back up but not my Internet - and seeing as I work for myself from home, I'm starting to tear my hair out a bit! I've had endless lengthy talks with both Sky and BT - both blaming each other! BT confirm that there is no longer any fault on my line, but I still have no broadband. I've tried 2 different routers and done every kind of reset/off and on again routine there is, and still nothing. My laptop is fine as I have been using it in nearby cafes whilst my house has been down. The laptop picks up and connects to my router but then says underneath the router name "no Internet access". Sorry for the ramble, but just wondered if anyone else had any bright ideas or suggestions for me to try!
  4. the planning history doesn;t explain the creepy christmas lightsd on inside though....i walked past on Tuesday, and they were still on inside.....are there festive squatters in there now?
  5. Thanks so much for all these tips so far....definitely helping us to put together a bit more of a plan for them! they've already been to stay in London with their other aunty, so clearly we need make their visit with us more fun than that one! ;)
  6. Hi there, My girlfriends 2 nieces and 1 nephew are coming to stay with us for Fri/Sat in Feb (agend between 3 - 9 yrs old) - and we're trying to think of some fun places and to take them locally - any resturant and activity ideas would be greatly appreciated! so far, have just thought about that "All fired up" ceramic workshop place, and a trip to the sweet shop. Maybe a morning trip to Borough Market.....anything else?? thanks

  8. Dear Barry, Firstly, thanks for starting this thread up and for all of your efforts so far. I havent had the chance to read through all of the postings, so apologies if you my points have been repeated already several times, but I am writing on behalf of my partner who isnt registered on the forum, and she had a bit of a rant about her journey to work yesterday morning, so thought I should pass them on....her main points of rage were: "Not enough ticket machines at East Dulwich, plus more often than not only accepting cash rather than cards ? means people miss trains merely by not being able to get a ticket in time... grrr. No trains between 7.19 and 7.52... not good to have this long a wait at rush hour... it only exacerpates the squeeze on the trains plus the queues at the ticket machine" I would like to reiterate her "grrr" point about the ticket machine, as I went to get on the ED - London Bridge train this afternoon at 12.14 - and the machine was being pretty tempremental to say the least - with 5 of us queuing trying to decide what to do, as the permit to travel machine wasnt working and there was no one in the office - eventually the machine started to work again, but would only accept cards and not cash....in the meantime, the train has come and gone. please can you let us know if there are any plans to have more than one, slightly dodgy, ticket machine at ED station - also, is there any update as to when the oyster pay as you go will be accepted at ED? Thanks again for your help in all this.
  9. It's that dreaded time of year again of trying to decide what to do for new years eve! Does anyone know of any good events that are being planned in any of the local pubs at all? I spent the end of last nye night at the Magdala...which pretty much did the job (ie. cheap to get in, had a bit of dancing, everyone seemed suitably happy and smashed and i could walk home!) so, I was hoping for something similar this year...any ideas?
  10. yeah - i've only been there a couple of times before, about a year or two ago i think....back in the "lock in" days...and havent been back since because i got lazy too! but, i walked past the other day, and saw a flyer for the acoustic thing, so figured i might give it a go this week as well.
  11. ....has anyone been to the Page 2 on a sunday night....is it a nice night out, or are the acoustic acts a bit hit and miss?
  12. Slightly random question....but I was wondering if there was anyone on this forum who lived on Tintagel Crescent at all? I am thinking about following what seems to be the trend in the area,(going by the amount of scaffolding ive seen up on a few streets recently)- and im thinking about converting the loft space in my house into a study/bedroom, but wondered if anyone else on this road had actually already done this - and if so, was planning permission needed - or did it come under a "permitted development"? cheers in advance if anyone can help
  13. ooooh, the thought of virgin media does fill me with rage a little! im sorry to say that i had the exact same issue with trying to have virgin media broadband installed at my house.....and after several failed visits and then also several failed attempts to reschedule my appointments (they finally gave me a saturday appointment, only to call me on that friday to confirm my "wednesday" appointment with me.....proceeded to tell me that a saturday slot was NEVER booked for me...even though i was holding in my hand a written letter of confirmation for it!) - by this point, i questioned whether the guy on the phone in fact had a brain, and then swiftly asked to be transferred to the cancellation dept! which, i have to say was the most efficient part of the VM, as they cancelled my contract and refunded my installation fee i had already paid in one day! soo, my advice would be, try someone else!! p.s. sorry for the rant!
  14. im not sure if this topic has been covered at all anywhere else, but i was wondering if there were any specifically lesbian/gay bars in or around ED at all? ive got a couple of girl mates coming to stay with me from Oz soon who have have recently got married - and as much as they'll be more than happy in any of the bars in ED (because they are all fabulous!) im sure they would also enjoy a night of gaying it up a bit locally as well!
  15. thanks for he top tips - i jogged past The Restaurant the other night and it does look like its worth a try. cheers for the link to nunhead arts blog as well - im not around on the night of the film night tho...which is such a shame as i love Little Miss Sunshine - highly recommend that if anyone is around that night though.
  16. whats the name of the deli? also, does anyone have any other top tips for nunhead....ive only managed to try Page 2 for a bevvie so far...and that was a year or so ago now - and have a feeling that their could be some more hidden gems in nunhead - so any top tips would be greatly appreciated! sorry if this question has been repeated elsewhere - im a bit of a forum virgin....and this is my offical first posting...so havent really had a good nose around it all yet. thanks
