  1. OK thanks Tallulah71. It was barking again this morning. I understand you probably don't want to fall out with the owner but something has to be done. I do work from home, at least a day or two a week, and it's starting to test my patience. Perhaps the owner does need to know that there are others around who find her dog a nuisance? I'm sorry to hear that she might be struggling - does she need help looking after the dog? I'm already at the end of my tether putting up with months of building noise very near to me and could do without a barking dog adding to that stress.

Really appreciate you having a quick word with the owner. Some dogs don't mind being left alone but this one obviously does. It barks around the same time every morning now but only intermittently at other times. Hope the owner is responsible and considerate enough to realise it has become an issue/annoyance and doesn't leave the dog alone for long periods in future. Not holding my breath though as it hasn't really stopped. Thanks again though.

I should have been more specific. Hope we're still friends grumpyoldman.

  5. Anybody else fed up with this? Pretty sure it's a house in the 130's (near the brow) but can't knock on any doors until I know which one it is. Frustrating. Barking used to be occasional but is now more frequent, especially early mornings. Amazing that people let this kind of thing slide and say/do nothing about it. We all have different tolerances for noise I guess.

Me too. I sense this has very little to do with concerns about safety and more to do with not wanting buses going down your street. Whilst I totally empathise with that, by seeking to change the route all you are doing is making it somebody else's inconvenience - and that is selfish behaviour.
  7. It's a pretty weird set up at HOM - I wouldn't want to live there. You'd have to get on very well indeed with all your neighbours - maybe a little too well. Is it some kind of commune or cult perhaps? It just gives me an uneasy feeling. I sometimes cross the road to avoid walking past it.
  8. I had the same experience - very dry, tasteless and expensive (?1.60) baguette - can't help that the bread is displayed in the front window, in direct sunlight most of the day (amazing the number of places that do this). Also still not convinced by the self-service model in a lot of food shops these days, especially from a hygiene perspective.
  9. Another vote for Turners, Barry Road. Reliable and honest.

I would say the same for all 3 of your above comments Louisa - intelligent and reasonable. Thanks, Rob

Dogs, dangerous or not, shouldn't be running up to anybody - they should be on a short lead and under the complete control of the owner. There are signs all over Dulwich Park to that effect but the majority of dog-owners ignore them. I have stopped running there now for that very reason.

I wasn't surprised to see them fail. Hoping for something better this time.
  13. Fox, those pubs are quieter because (with the exception of the Palmerston, which is a restaurant in all but name) comparatively few people go to them. TGE is busy because it is doing what it does quite well and people want to go there. That's not to say I don't empathise with local residents on the high level of noise - I'm sure I would find it annoying too. But I guess that's why I choose not to live too close to a pub.
  14. The most shocking thing about this thread is finding out there is a woman living in ED that doesn't want to have kids.

If you live in Wood Vale, have your Jubilee gathering there if you feel the need, not in Langton Rise. Please don't assume that everybody is into that kind of thing and that they won't mind the noise and disruption. It needs to be something that all, or at least the majority, of residents want to do and that will never be the case.
  16. Just on that, anybody recommend a hotel near Heathrow (T4) where you can get a room for that kind of price? I have an early flight too.
  17. Very well said James. Normal life cannot be put on hold for this. Personally, I really hope there is nothing happening near me. For some people a day off means relaxing with friends or family and a bit of peace and quiet. I guess everybody has a different idea of what constitutes 'fun'. I can't think of anything less fun and more intrusive than a street party.
  18. We should do more to control other sources of noise, such as people. Happy to be consulted on that.
  19. Londoners should be grateful for their transport network. I admit it's not cheap but it has to be one of the most extensive in the world. I've just spent some time in the States, where if you don't have a car, you can't get anywhere.
  20. Bus to Peckham Rye, train to Victoria, District line to Hammersmith, cross platform and Piccadilly line to Heathrow. Did it 2 weeks ago and it worked well. Cheaper if not quite as fast as the Heathrow Express option.
  21. Eucalyptus, what do you mean by an 'area like this'? Dulwich doesn't have a big fence around it that stops bad people coming in. We are surrounded by areas of high crime and deprivation - that's always been the case and unfortunately always will be. Dulwich is not some utopia where nothing bad happens.
