  1. As my son cycled off yesterday I warned him not to hang around in the park after school. Last day of term is always 'thief day' in Dulwich Park. He came home early told me his friend was chased by a boy who ran up to him pulling on a balaclava trying to steal his bike. Fortunately the bike rider escaped. On the last day of half term one of my sons friends received a call telling him not to hang around in the park as a group of kids were going to 'get some bikes' I phoned the police .... got an answerphone. It happens every week in Dulwich Park, phones, money, bikes (and yes Alan Medic probably sweets) it's time the police took a proactive approach before some innocent kid really gets hurt. Summer is here and as soon as he wants to venture out I have to issue the reminders about handing over the phone if he gets threatened. He was mugged for his bike last year and a phone in the spring. I don't think even 'Alan Medic' would enjoy being stopped by two older and bigger kids (I hate calling these people kids, but this is a public forum) and asked 'what have you got on you' and made to empty your pockets. He's scared to go out riding alone on the bike he worked and saved so hard to buy, afraid of being surrounded by a groups of thieving bullying scum.
  2. My son was mugged for his phone (Christmas present) at about 3.15pm today. He was walking between Queen Mary's Gate and the pond in Dulwich Park. Thanks to the woman with a baby in a buggy who called the police unfortunately the rats had gone to ground. The robbers were two tall Asian males, about 16 years old, grey woollen hats, black coats and track suit bottoms. Quite a few other kids saw them. If you saw them hanging around the playground, cafe, pond or gate area around 3 > 3.15pm give Southwark police a call on 0300 123 1212.
  3. My son was mugged for his bike, the cops found it being ridden by the thief. It was etched with our postcode underneath so we got it back. The thief went to juvenile court and received a community sentence. When I went to collect it the police had 'millions' of bikes that nobody reports/claims or can show proof of ownership. They eventually go to auction. stevo.. have you reported it ? do you have the frame number, can you prove you own it ? Get the police on to it. They were overjoyed when they returned ours. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,442852,448754#msg-448754

  6. Sorry to hear about your bike otto. It may be on the way to Brick Lane or on Gumtree but do report it to the police. My son had his robbed three weeks ago and within 36 hours the police arrested someone riding it. I had engraved our postcode under the axle so it was easily identifiable once they had pulled the person. When I collected it from Peckham Police Station the cops were overjoyed that they could return one. It was in a pile of about 15 other bikes non of which had been reported. The area was full until recently I'd guess it would easily hold at least 50 or 60 bikes. They keep the unclaimed ones for a while then send them for auction with the proceeds going to charity. So if you love your bike make a note of the frame number, mark it with your postcode might be a good idea to take a photo too and if it does get nicked tell the law.
  7. Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts, posts and PM's, a little update but you'll have to read between the lines. Just 48 hours after the incident we were requested to make a short visit to Peckham Police station, and as a direct result Southwark Police have climbed to the top of our Christmas card list. That's all for the moment but I'll update again asap.
  8. My 12 year old son was mugged for his bike at 8.05am this morning in Fireman's Alley at the junction with Lordship Lane. The thief was sitting on the BT Exchange wall as he cycled past, ran up behind and pulled him off his bike. He was black, 16/17 years old, hairy top lip, approx. 5'8" tall, wearing a mid grey hoodie, dark grey tracksuit bottoms with two black stripes running down the seam of each leg. My son phoned the police who drove him around but of course the scum had gone to ground. He recalls the same guy was hanging around the junction of Upland Road and Lordship Lane on Tuesday morning at about 8am. That's near the bus stop so you may have seen him. If you have any info please notify the cops 020 7378 1212. Crime reference (CAD1874 / 1 APR 10) Bike was a blue Giant Rock same as the one in the link but with a backrack and LED's in the pedals. Cheers
