  1. If you think it's a bit wired that the same phone number has currently 4 bikes for sale on gumtree and if you even think one of those might have been yours at one point -calling the police is one thing you can do. However, the response is usually that they will ask you to prove that any of the bikes are stolen. For me that has been difficult as I have no access to a stolen bike database and the one offered by a guy who changed his name and location for every add was not mine. If you however think an add is dodgy you can report it on gumtree and it will be removed from the listing...
  2. Please report it to the police. The night mine was stolen at least 5 bikes vanished from the area I live in. They must have been in a van collecting all these bikes and somebody will eventually see these people. Maybe one day the police might even start doing something.
  3. Thanks so much for the message. Unfortunately the blue specialized isn?t mine, it was also locked to the railings so looks like it has an owner. I also had a visit from the safer neighbourhood team yesterday. Apparently that night several bikes were stolen from this area and a lot of those from the garden. I?m a bit unsure what the exact purpose of their visit was, but I?m hoping that the more people report bike thefts the more prevention can be done. Somebody must have seen the van they have loaded all those stolen bikes into! I was told the my chance of getting the bike back would be very high if somebody commits another crime, like a robbery on it. Having thought about it I?d prefer the robbery not to happen and never to see my bike again? Thanks for all the helpful comments about keeping your bike inside. This was the first night I left it outside in the garden and I think I have learned my lesson. I can?t help but think it?s ridiculous with the rents in this area that I have to share my bedroom with a bike or have to accept that it will get nicked, but hey ho?.
  4. Looks like Brick Lane Market is the place to go. Is it mainly on Sundays or is it worth going there tomorrow already?
  5. Thank you for all your comments. I was wondering if anybody knows where stolen bikes will be sold in this area. Is there a second hand bike shop anywhere were I should have a look this weekend? I will also have to buy a new bike and was considering to buy one second hand. However I don?t want to buy a stolen one, how can I make sure I don?t? Womanofdulwich I have secured all windows, doors and installed alarms now just in case people come by on a regular basis. In that light I?d rather have they run with a bike from the garden then coming into the house?.
  6. I just found the bike frame number, which I have also reported to the police: WUD70519600B
  7. I might have a photos somewhere, but when it was new it looked like this: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/sirrus-2008-hybrid-bike-ec001400
  8. Thanks, I did report it and keep my fingers crossed that a miracle will happen and I?ll get it back somehow.
  9. We had a BBQ last night and were out in the garden until midnight. I usually keep my bike inside - last night I thought it could stay in the garden and at 6.30am this morning it was gone! We are in Lytcott Grove, which is off Melbourne Grove. The scary thing is that you can?t see into the Garden from the street, so either the neighbours saw an opportunity or - much worse - there might be people going through the gardens in the area on a regular basis?! If anybody finds it or gets offered a Sirrus, please let me know.
