  1. Never said thank you for all these excellent suggestions. Hoping that one day soon I can actually go and visit some of them!
  2. I've been offered a place for my baby (10 months old) at Mother Goose Upland Road and just wondered if anyone could pass on their feedback and experiences, either here or via DM? it's so difficult in these Covid times as I can't physically see inside the nursery myself and go on instinct! Thanks so much
  3. I absolutely love living in East Dulwich and have done so for ten years. But I have a baby now and need to make a move eventually! We really can't afford the houses here. Saying that, every time I visit somewhere to scope it out, it just doesn't feel the same. I'm worried I've been completely spoilt. Are there any towns or particular areas in cities that strike you as having an East Dulwich vibe? Pref in the south-east, south-west or East Anglia? I know the area has its downsides too but I have always loved the unique and independent shops and cafes, the big green spaces, the community feel, the arty and artisan, the food and the gorgeous streets where I can nosily peek through all the big bay windows...! Help!
  4. Oh this sounds so lovely and just the kind of respite and cheer we need, thank you to this road and others doing similar!! 🎅
  5. Following on from how brilliant Melbourne Grove was for Halloween this year, are there plans for any streets to go the extra mile with Christmas lights? It would genuinely be a highlight for me and my baby - don't recommend having a baby in lockdown and don't recommend having a baby during a pandemic! A nice buggy walk with some festive lights to coo at would cheer us both right up. And nice and Covid safe too ☺️
  6. I know it's vain but I am getting so self-conscious about my smile. I am a little scared about getting them whitened at the dentist but willing to pay for it now as i am getting to the point of dreading photos. Anyone recommend anywhere or any specific dentist locally? I'd rather get feedback from someone who's done it as I'm a wimp! Thank you....
  7. Thanks everyone so much for the suggestions, going to try all of these. Think the time of day might be a factor too, as been heading out later afternoon/early evening...
  8. Thank you! Maybe I'll head in that direction instead. Townley Road is awful! Thanks so much.
  9. I have a newborn and desperate to get out for my daily exercise at this strange time - preferably a good two mile walk with the pram. However, I live near Townley Road and that stretch of pavement (and bit of Lordship Lane by Lordship pub) is very narrow and full of people who don't seem to care much at all about keeping a distance. Does anyone recommend any East Dulwich back streets/route for a good, quiet walk? Preferably with a bit of nature/nice spring front gardens to chase away the baby blues! Thanks in advance...
  10. Hi all, am in final days of pregnancy and looking around at local nurseries. I've found one I really like but my general feeling - with all of them - is that they might better suit older children from 2years plus. At the moment, the thought of leaving a little 11 or 12 month old there is a bit overwhelming! I'm now wondering if a childminder might be better as it will be more of a home-from-home environment. However, it's so hard to know where to start looking! Do any mums or dads out there have (or have had) a local childminder that they loved and trusted to bits and want to recommend? Thank you!
  11. I have lived in East Dulwich for nearly ten years and absolutely love it: amazing parks, community, shops and cafes... If I could buy a house and live here forever, I would. The transport really isn't that bad (although buses at rush hour can be testing!), especially if you're like me and hate catching the tube anyway! The only thing I'd change is the pollution, but that's a London-wide issue....
  12. It's a farce in there. They also lost something of mine that I redelivered there, but it was such a faff trying to sort it out, and I was so exhausted by the queue (and this was pre-xmas!), that I just gave up in the end... Feel bad for them during these super-busy periods but the lack of staff, speed and smiles doesn't help the issue!
  13. Hello, does anyone know if there are any local shops, etc, in the area that need some clothes hangers donated? Although I'm in the habit of refusing them now when shopping, we have so many that have stockpiled over the years and I just don't know what to do with them all. Obviously, I do not want to chuck them and see them on top of landfill! Struggling to find much advice online. All suggestions welcome :-)
  14. Not going wade into pros/cons of buying from Tree Amigos but just wanted to add support to residents re: noise. I don't live around Goose Green, but do yoga at Goose Green Clinic opposite. The room does have single-glazed windows but I was really surprised by how loud the generator sound was! It was around 7pm and for some reason the sound really rumbled and carried past the other traffic noise. At first, I thought it was my tinnitus playing up! Do feel sorry for anyone living nearby who is suffering from the noise/light pollution...
  15. Oh great, thank you, will do! Do you recommend a particular stylist?
  16. Hello, just wondering if anyone knows any hairdressers in the area that offer dry cuts? For physical reasons, would rather not strain back to have my hair washed. My hair is long and needs a proper chop but don't think it's a complicated job. However, would rather go to a salon that people rate already! Thanks so much in advance...
  17. God, does even this subject have to be horrendously polarised? Can't we just agree that 10pm would definitely be too late for some (prob those with babies, small kids etc) and not others. That some animals wouldn't mind at all and others would be howling and climbing the walls. That how loud it sounded would depend on where you live in East Dulwich. Personally, I live v near the playing field and the fireworks were placed v close to the fence and residential area. My flat was actually shaking. A nice compromise would have been more warning or just to have started the fireworks earlier or a bit further from the houses and flats. But this thread is just a to and fro of 'This is bloody London, get over it' versus 'Ban all fireworks and screw the lot of you'.
  18. I really like Theo's in Camberwell and Mamma Dough in Peckham. Franco Manca great for the price but can get a bit samey if you have too often. I found 500 Degrees quite poor on the toppings front. When I get bit tired of all the sourdough-type pizza bases around though, I do love Firezza. My favourite for delivery and they PILE on the toppings! Yet to try Sylvester's, doesn't look quite my vibe but I will give it a go...
  19. I love Tandoori Nights and their vegetarian options are superb. Tasty and fresh and not swimming in oil.
  20. We get lots of bats in our garden coming from direction of Alleyn's playing field. Love it! Never expected that in zone 2/3 London.
  21. I would love a Mexican in East Dulwich - your food looks seriously yum!
