Thanks. And for those who can't even be bothered to open the gif, the answer is about two thirds.

Well if income was like IQ and it was meant to form a nice, equally distributed bell curve, then yes by definition *exactly* half of the population would fall within the 'below average' income section. But it doesn't form an equally distributed bell curve, take a look at the latest government data, specifically the graph on p. 15 here: http://research.dwp.gov.uk/asd/hbai/hbai_2009/pdf_files/full_hbai10.pdf See how skewed it is to the left (that's the 'poor' end)? It doesn't matter which average we're looking at here (mean, median, whatever) most people are still below it. Ok, I'm going to go back to the grumpy old women thread to vent a bit as I'm getting a bit off topic.

Yes it's sad to watch, all that back-slapping and false smiling at the jolly good ribbings they get from each other, oh and how they fake laugh at it all...bleugh! Actually I'm thinking of starting a comic strip about it for cathartic purposes.
  4. Weedy&/or obsequious men. I HATE them. Grow a pair, please! Example - *** seriously winds me up - he has his head so far firmly wedged up ***'s anus it actually makes me feel nauseous to watch them together...*** And apparently he's always in the doghouse with his parnter for something ridiculous like burning the toast. EDIT: Stars replace incriminating evidence because they read the forum :-$
  5. Hi Andypandy, I've got a Dell Inspiron laptop at work and, as far as PCs go, it's not too bad (I'm a Mac user myself). It might be a good place to start.
  6. Oh, ok this is looking promising. I am local-ish - The Actress will actually be my local when it opens, but I cycle past the Victoria Inn every day on my way home from work and it's always busy. It's not too far out of my way tbh, well within walking distance. I'm not opposed to organised nights as such, just those that aren't organised by the venue they're held in. Any time I've ever gone to something that has been organised by a group *at* a venue rather than *by* the venue it's always felt a bit, err...like we we're the guests who aren't really invited to the party but we brought our own booze so it's ok. I'm probably not making much sense, but being part of a gatecrashing group of gayers always makes me feel a bit awkward! Thanks for the link - I got a server error and then a "502 bad gateway" error (whatever that is) when I tried to visit the website, but I'll check back some other time and hopefully it will be up again. So for the record, I WOULD be interested, anyone else!?
  7. I like these: http://chriskenyon.typepad.com/my_weblog/images/2008/07/26/img_49291_2.jpg http://www.frontyardcompany.co.uk/products/plantlock.html I've seen some outside the Roebuck on Dover St in Borough and some outside Look Mum No Hands on Old Street and I think they are actually quite attractive. When they're not being used, they just look like planters not 'bike parking solutions', which is nice.
  8. For me going down the pub is an experience, which is why every now and then I like to go out for a drink rather than sit at home. I would rather go down the Clock, the Rye, the EDT, The Bishop, or The Actress (when it opens) and have one pint (or three) than go to Wetherspoons and have two (or six). For me, places like Wetherspoon are about the (cheapness of the) drink because there's no other attraction.
  9. victoria_inn Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > if it is a change of scenery you are after why > don't we organize a night here? > anyone tried us yet? > > Molly Err...yes! I would definitely go to a night hosted at the Victoria Inn...I've been wanting an excuse to go there for ages. The thing I don't like about going to nights that are 'organised' by the general public is that you feel obliged to talk to people and be sociable even if you've nothing in common - I never feel right just popping in for a pint or two and when I do I always feel a bit like we're all gatecrashing someone else's party iykwim. Molly - if you do end up hosting a night at the Victoria Inn, how will you let us know? I Googled it hoping to find a website where I could sign up to a mailing list or something but can't find anything.
  10. We never normally get people knocking and wanting to *talk* but we always get the damn leaflets...if I'm in (rare) I chase them back down the street and let them know that the "No junk mail" sticker applies to Christian junk mail as well. Bloody litter bugs. Have just realised I have too much time on my hands as well :D
  11. DJKillaQueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There aren't really any bars in ED. That's what I thought...or pubs or any gay/les venues at all, or even nights! How disappointing. Well if JD Wetherspoon doesn't take off maybe there will be a gap in the market for that venue! C'mon, amongst all those buggies on LL, I've seen a few crew cuts (please don't delete, *I am gay* after all and am too sozzled to work out my tongue from my cheek!) So why are there no gay places to go then?
  12. I was thinking the same thing, I just posted some found cat info in the WANTED section!? Hmmm..."WANTED > Have you lost a found cat"...got my head round it in the end ;P

Thanks for the quick response admin! Administrator Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi binary_star, I don't believe there is a way for > you to reverse the order. Ok, fair enough...but what a shame :( Administrator Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And the Language option, I tinkered with the software and > it now gives that option 3 times and I'm too > scared to try and fix it in case I break > something. Well that's reassuring ;D
  14. It doesn't really matter what any of us *think* about it, it's what we'll *do* that will count and based on that it will either thrive to become a success or dive and be a failure. Personally, I would not like to see a Wetherspoons here, just as I wouldn't a McDonald's or New Look (or Prada or Gucci outlet for that matter!). I moved to East Dulwich for many reasons, one of which was because I liked the character and individuality of the place. After coming from Streatham (for those who haven't had the delight of visiting, the highstreet is indistinguishable from most others in London), Lordship Lane and the surrounding streets like Northcross Rd were a major attraction. I can't honestly say that the Caf? Nero or Foxtons add to this attraction, and I'd bundle Wetherspoons in with those. Ah well, it's all down to supply and demand, innit.
  15. Courtesy of another forum, this is what tfl should *really* be telling new cyclists...
  16. Hmm, I've mixed views on JD Wetherspoon. From my experience, they're either blob shops where all the local alchies hang out, student havens or get turned into dodgy locals (think 'local' as in 'local shop'). Mind you, I haven't been in that many...not since I was an my alchie student days when we used to pop down the local anyway. I guess if there is no need for it, it wont last long surely? Unless JP Wetherspoons is a cheap rip-off of JD Wetherspoon....then we really are in for trouble.

Is there a way to reverse the order in which posts appear, i.e. so that the newest posts appear at the top once clicked into a thread? Also my language settings are set to 'English (American)', but if I try to change it, the dropdown menu only offers this option, three times....?
  18. Totally agree with what DJKillaQueen said earlier.. DJKillaQueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The most sensible route seems to be that used by > existing cyclists, Crystal Palace Road, Bellenden, > onto Peckham High Street. ...that's the route I take to the city every day... DJKillaQueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > An alternate would be Barry Road, Peckham Rye, Rye > Lane, and then either along to Camberwell, or > taking the old canal route to Burgess Park ..and that's the way I come back. I've been cycle commuting in London for about three years, one year of that has been cycling from ED to Hackney and I'd never consider coming down LL...or going up DKH for that matter!
  19. I would also like to know if there is anywhere local to find gay friends. I've lived in East Dulwich for nearly a year now and I haven't found any gay bars/pubs here. I don't think the drinks at the Rye are organised by the pub itself, afaik it's by members of another forum who are otherwise not connected to the Rye. My partner and I did try it on a couple of occasions but it was a bit hit and miss - at the first one there were easily 60 people which was a bit overwhelming and the second time only two others turned up besides myself, my partner and another couple we know, so that was a bit weird. As the OPs sister will know Hackney has more than it's fair share, what's the deal!?
