  1. I don?t want to go off topic but feel I have to defend Mark & Son, who have always been friendly and polite in my experience. And no, I don?t work there before anyone gets suspicious!
  2. It was an in-train announcement from the driver. I was actually seated on the train - so don't know if there were any announcements on the loudspeakers. I was on the carriage nearest the station gates and I only heard the driver say the train wasn't stopping at Denmark Hill once. He did mumble it a bit (plus he was very softly spoken) and didn't make a huge loud announcement of it. Obviously a better way of doing it would have been to bellow it and repeat it - not just say it once in a listless manner.
  3. Hi DulwichLondoner, I too was on that same train. There were two announcements from the driver - one was about waiting for a conductor and the incident at Herne Hill, then a later one mentioned the train wasn't stopping at Denmark Hill. I have to say I did strain to hear him as he was very quietly spoken and I was lucky that my carriage was very quiet, otherwise I would have missed it. The other frustrating element to this is that initially on the National Rail app both the 19.34 and 19.39 were showing as delayed and then later it showed Denmark Hill as cancelled (although I wasn't sure how correct this was as nothing had been said on the train). The 19.39 to Gillingham was actually right next to the 19.34 on platform 6 and that one departed a few mins late but DID stop at Denmark Hill - so I would have got on that one had I known. The driver's announcement only came AFTER the 19.39 had departed but it did show as cancelled on the app before his announcement, so people could have got on the train from platform 6. I counted four guards huddled by the gates by both trains and it wouldn't have hurt them to go that extra mile and let people on platform 7 know that the train wasn't stopping at Denmark Hill and that they could get the one on platform 6. Victoria is hellish enough at the best of times and I always think the staff/mgt there could do a bit more sometimes (helping people who are obviously struggling with their heavy cases down the stairs etc). I've also got on trains that were meant to have stopped at Denmark Hill but must have been changed at the last moment and because I've boarded with moments to spare I've missed the driver's announcement.
  4. They must have meant Glamorous Nails on Grove Vale.
  5. A good turn out from locals (as well as friends) for AJ and family this lunchtime. As you can see from the picture it was an emotional farewell. They will be missed, but they they told me they are happy the nail bar on Elsie Road is taking over the premises as they need extra space to expand and include a spa area.
  6. Site is now saying it'll be fixed at 4.30pm. No connection since 10am on Melbourne Grove.
  7. Police are at the site now. According to the officers they should be moved on today. Those who live nearby must have heard their generator that runs through the night and sounds like a car engine running. I won't miss that!
  8. Intended train strike meant to start tomorrow. I only found out after finding a leaflet on my train seat from London Bridge. It may affect trains along the East Dulwich route to London Bridge. Just a heads-up for commuters to check before they travel tomorrow as buses and alternate routes expected to be a lot busier. More detail and further dates here: http://www.southernrailway.com/your-journey/strike http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/124447.aspx
  9. Thanks Azalea, agree mostly terrible reviews: http://www.nhs.uk/Services/GP/ReviewsAndRatings/DefaultView.aspx?id=42126 The types of complaints are almost identical to mine sadly. So it's great NHS Choices has a forum to complain and air concerns, but do they actually take actions from the feedback or do they just give people lip service by replying?
  10. Thanks for the responses. The good news is I managed to get a place at the Herne Hill Group Practice despite just falling out of their catchment area. I'm pleased I persisted with this and was impressed to receive a text with my new GP's details on (something I've never had previously). Plus I managed to get decent information from the receptionist straight away including details about a Foot Clinic - something the Melbourne Grove Surgery failed to do despite numerous requests (only when pushed they supplied a form which was useless as it was over two years out of date with incorrect details on). Sadly the decline of the Melbourne Grove Practice has been all too visible over the last decade since I joined. I understand they have a high turnover and are overworked but the fact is it's poorly run (both from an admin and care perspective). Frankly these mistakes mounted up and made me lose faith in their service and I worried that if I did have a serious ailment then how could I trust them? There are numerous reasons which led me to transfer, a few being: Sitting incredulously with a nurse who didn't realise she was asking me questions based on another patient's notes (she had the wrong file in front of her for most of the appointment). Highlighting the fact even simple procedures aren't being followed and patients are rushed and not listened to. Reception staff who don't know what services are offered as they don't get adequate training and have very short tenures Supply doctors drafted in who can't work the computer systems/printers which supply prescriptions (as a consequence appointments run late) Regularly waiting nearly two hours for booked appointments Samples that have mysteriously 'gone missing' so I've had to return to re-do them An NHS Health check that had to be done in a few visits because the nurse didn't know what she was doing. And no adequate follow-up session on results Doctors being far too officious about the 'one ailment per appointment' rule and putting quotas above patient care Again, thankful I have been able to transfer.
  11. Hi Pugwash - I'm on Grove Vale near ED Station. Thanks.
  12. Hey there, can anyone recommend a decent medical practice in the East Dulwich area. I'm currently with the Melbourne Grove Practice but really want a change due to the numerous bad experiences/incompetency I have suffered there over the years. Someone recommended the Herne Hill Surgery to me, but unfortunately I just fall out of their catchment area: http://www.hernehillgp.nhs.uk/catchment-area/ Can anyone help with this?
  13. Oh yes I see the ban: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,915467 Okay, but at least does anyone know if it was due to rent increases? Lack of business? Owners trying something new?
  14. Any update on this? I feel like we've all been 'sold a pup' here. It would be nice to at least push back those hoardings, so during peak commuting times people aren't bumping into each other trying to catch a train/bus on a restricted amount of pavement. Plus as Chazzle mentions they look awful - at least some street art on them would be an improvement.
  15. Saw this today, does anyone know why it's closing? http://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-property-for-sale/property-53722154.html

    Agree. Don't go to Acer.
  17. Yup - he installed one for me a few years ago. If you have a new number for him that would be fab. I have tried calling Bruno's but just get their answerphone. Cheers.
  18. Thanks loads Seabag. I'll chat to Lou.
  19. I used Bob a few years back and would like to get in touch with some more work for him. The number on here doesn't work anymore, as the previous poster mentions he moved a while back. http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/junction-emporium-london But does anyone have his current number? Cheers.
  20. I know there are posts relating to this - but I don't believe the diversion information is communicated that well on each bus stop. Basically I wouldn't bother waiting for a bus around East Dulwich Station/BlackBird Bakery or outside Mark & Son (unless it's a P13). I was just getting a paper from the newsagent and there are people waiting at all of these stops because it's unclear about the current diversion (James Barber mentions this is an earlier post, but if you don't read the Forum then you wouldn't know). The problem is if you use a Bus Checker app it will show buses as due and also the dot matrix screens are displaying buses as due. There is a small poster on some of the timetables (not all) but people aren't noticing it (mainly because behaviour has changed these days, and written timetables are checked less frequently than dot matrix screens or apps). Really it would have been better to put a 'Bus Not In Use' cover over the actual Bus Stop but I guess because the P13 is still serving those stops that would be untrue. Anyway, just a heads up as so many people are waiting at these stops unaware of this.
  21. Thanks for this James. I have just reported my incident from last night and I added to the description that I think he was quite thin framed and he seemed about 5ft 11 to me. Who knows if this could have turned into somthing more serious if there hadn't suddenly been more people on the ground as I approached East Dulwich Station. And tbh I'm still not sure if it was to disguise some sort of pickpocketing on my person.
  22. Hello Bailey84. Just to let you know the same thing happened to me last night too. I was walking back from Denmark Hill Station (as there were no buses) and it was just after 7pm. As I was walking past the park (just past the Sainsbury's opposite the park along the road where the railings are) on the same side of the road as the Fish and Chip shop, he groped me just beside the railings. This description is exactly the same as the man that did it to me. I was on my phone at the time as my other half just called me and this pest really startled me. He carried on walking and I was really shocked and then shouted after him. He was ahead by this time and just kept looking round and staring. My second instinct was to check my pockets in case this was a scam to pickpocket under the rouse of groping. I'm not sure if it was a scam or just plain indecency to be honest as he didn't hang around.
  23. I think it looks good, the ticket office especially. I believe the footbridge/towers could have been a lot worse and as KidKruger says it will help people with prams and the less able-bodied. I'm not sure how much it has cost though or when the new additions are going to be officially used. Any ideas when the work is going to be completed?
  24. Denmark Hill Station looks to be shaping up really well. The new ticket office (the part I could catch a glimpse of anyway) seems to be really well designed. Is anyone else excited? http://www.flickr.com//photos/93439821@N00/sets/72157621778904669/show/with/3775104512/
  25. Yawn. Let's all focus on the negative etc. instead of celebrating something good that's been done. James, they are fab!
