  1. We moved with Pavel and his AndMove crew from Dulwich to Hammersmith. Although I quite severely underestimated the amount that had to be moved eventually, he was happy to keep to the original price. His people were clean, careful, communicating well and very hard working. I'd have no hesitation recommending them to anyone.
  2. What is the esteemed audience's experience with Dulwich Village estate agents from a seller's perspective? KFH, Pedder, Harvey, Knight Frank, Hamptons? I find it remarkably difficult to find significant number of reliable reviews out there so would very much appreciate your views. Anything sent by private email I'm happy to summarise anonymously if permitted. Thank you very much!
  3. As Callow didn't have anyone available to open the door after by babysitter locked herself out, I contacted Alan and was lucky enough that he was finishing off a job around the area - he no longer lives here. He constantly texted updates when he'd arrive and was most nice and flexible with the issue at hand. Highly recommended.
  4. Looking for a handyman who can do a number of jobs around the house (take off and replace radiator, build shelves, fix rotten decking, replace door, replace door handles, replace locks, replace taps and a few others). Probably about a week's worth of work. I tried Aston and Vince who are recommended here but they are both not available in the next four weeks. Would you have other recommendations?
  5. They are, sadly, gone now. So this became yet another case of a local shop pushed out by the Dulwich Estate rent increase - up by 33% in this case.
  6. After Sainsbury's not moving in (anyone knows why?), Shepards announced that they close at end of November due to restructuring of the business. They tried to get more business by more special offers and some discounts but sadly it seems that wasn't enough to keep it a viable business. Does anyone know more? What's planned to come? Their staff doesn't know. I hope we'll have another convenience shop / little supermarket there.
  7. Unfortunately most of our favourites were taken off the menu such as the spicy squid starter. The menu has become much more like your common "pasta & pizza" Italian.
  8. Mine are 14m and 3.5y. Would be nice to have something like that. The older one is going to nursery full time though so weekend is the only option for her.
  9. Texted him around 6pm and he came a couple of hours later to fix a blocked drain. Very courteous and helpful.
  10. Can someone recommend some good made-to-measure roller blinds? I mean that they roll easily, resist kids' attempt at breaking them, look not too poorly etc. There are of course many online shops but I find it next to impossible to judge the quality of their products. Appreciate any experience you can share.
  11. I've had the adventurous experience to call "Locksmiths East Dulwich" (aka samlocks) to open a straight-forward rear door (http://www.locksmitheastdulwich.co.uk/, http://www.samlocksmithdulwich.co.uk/, 020 8099 7991) Over the phone they quoted ?59 for opening a 5 lever lock and ?29 for a replacement lock. After arriving late, lots of drilling and lots of hammering the door was open. You would be forgiven to think they'd be paid by noise. Then there was the question of payment. With indignation he stated "I can't do the lock for ?29. I paid ?35 for that at Selco." Well, I don't know Selco prices as you need a trade login (can anyone check?) but at Amazon that lock is ?12. Also he put in a 3 lever lock with the justification that the 5 lever lock would be bigger. Really? Eventually after threats to remove the lock and lots of discussions we finally came back to the original price. All in all I can highly recommend this locksmith to anyone who hates their door and wishes to hone their negotiations skills and intimidation resilience. To everyone else ...

I look foward to the mayhem (NOT!) x I am actually quite impressed how little disruption all of the LB redevelopment work has caused so far given how much they've changed. Or maybe I was just lucky when I came through LB.

If you look closely, it isn't actually an L plate, rather it's part of the printing of the delivery box (or was it another delivery company where I saw that?) It seems to me that a lot of bike drivers (or their companies) seem to think that having an L plate gives some kind of advantage. For the me only effect is that I now ignore them completely as clearly 90% of bikes with L plates are driven by experienced drivers.
  14. I second the recommendation. I recently called Michael to look at a boiler emergency. While he didn't call before arrival, that was just a minor annoyance and the only one. Michael was very thorough and not satisfied until he fully understood the problem, in stark contrast to another gas engineer I had before. He was very helpful to explain the issue and repair options in detail, and not pushing at all for unnecessary work. After the boiler repair we discovered a separate problem with the drainage which he immediately fixed too. I'd choose him again any time.
  15. I'm looking for an installer for oak flooring. Would anyone have recommendations?
  16. It might be helpful if I share my experience and problems with ADS Airport Direct Services. I booked a journey to the airport through the online web form, assuming it would be at the price they published on their website. The booking confirmation come by email and did not mention anything regarding costs. As it turns out they intended to charge a much higher price, which I only found out by phoning them to confirm. In the ensuing discussion they brought forward a number of rather remarkable viewpoints: The price list on the web site is four years old, hence I must know that the prices are no longer valid (how I should even know when it was updated they didn't explain) They will update their website in a few weeks (sorry my precognition wasn't working well on the day; also two months later it still wasn't updated) The published website only states minimum prices (in fact it doesn't state anything like that) A contract is only binding if it's signed (no comment) Once booked and paid their service may be good but I would recommend to be careful about their prices, business practices and legal understanding.
  17. I'd love to be able to view "FS & Offered" where the threads are ordered by the date when they were started rather than when the latest message was posted. That's so that new items can easily be found. Or is this already possible and I miss something?
