  1. Might be worth taking a look here to see if you can sort the problem: http://ask.ofcom.org.uk/help/television/terrecept

  3. There's clearly some sensible advice in this thread, but in my opinion, unless you're qualified to give nutrition advice, it's really best not to. For instance, if someone has a particular medical condition, it may not be advisable for them to restrict certain types of foods. So giving very specific dietary advice on a forum, albeit well meaning, could have serious negative consequences. This page on the NHS site gives clear information on how the OP can find a registered dietitian or nutritionist: http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/find-a-registered-dietitian-or-nutritionist.aspx?categoryid=51&subcategoryid=168
  4. Don't worry Daniel84, they do it every year in Oglander Road, apparently just to remove some of the bulk at the top of the trees. By summer all the trees come into glorious full leaf nonetheless.
  5. I agree it's very frustrating. It has the potential to be a great gym but the lack of customer service and the very poor maintenance of the gym and the equipment is continuingly awful and has been discussed many times on the forum before. That said, any gym at this time of year is going to be a nightmare. Last night it was packed in there and I had to wait for every machine, and I expect it to be the same for at least the next 2 to 4 weeks while all the guilty post-Christmas gym joiners have a go at exercise and then give it up in February.
  6. Due to an "electricity supply problem", London Bridge station is currently closed and all Southern services are affected.
  7. 9 minutes on the train from Denmark Hill to Victoria where there is a House of Fraser, Zara, M&S, Boots etc.
  8. There are severe delays on all lines going through Denmark Hill due to someone being hit by a freight train at the station.
  9. Is the site down at the moment? I can't access it via Chrome or Explorer.
  10. Thanks, KidKruger, but I realise that - I posted this one at exactly the same time as the poster of that thread and saw them both pop up together.
  11. I just got a train from ED to London Bridge. When I got to LB there was chaos going on. Apparently Greenpeace are demonstrating on or near the Shard, so lots of police there, but also the guard told me that "there's just been a suicide at East Dulwich station". Shocking as I'd just been there, standing right at the top of the platform just 10 or so minutes earlier. There were no trains running out of LB to ED. Not sure if ED station is closed both ways but I imagine so.
  12. I was reading another post in this section (the Lovely House one) and found the Scores on the Doors website which I'd never come across before. It allows you to search restaurants across the UK to find out their food hygiene rating, based on information from local authorities. The scale goes from 0 to 5, as follows: 0 - Urgent improvement necessary 1 - Major improvement necessary 2 - Improvement necessary 3 - Generally satisfactory 4 - Good 5 - Very good Here are the scores for some ED restaurants, in no particular order: Tandoori Nights - 1 Jaflong - 1 Dulwich Tandoori - 1 Veer Zara - 3 Curry Cabin - 1 Ganapati - 5 Indian Mischief - 5 Thai Corner Cafe - 1 Palmerston - 4 Sea Cow - 5 Franklins - 5 Locale - 5 Begging Bowl - 4 I am shocked at the scores of the curry houses on Lordship Lane. What do others think?
  13. Sue If you (or anyone else) feels strongly that this is misleading advertising, you can complain to the Advertising Standards Authority about it, here: http://www.asa.org.uk/Consumers/How-to-complain/Online-Form/Step1. The ASA has rules which prevent misleading advertising and can take action when its rules are breached.
  14. I'd like to thank everyone on the forum who recommended Giulio - as a result I arranged some sessions with him recently and I've never looked back. I've worked with a few different trainers over the years, but Giulio is easily the best. He is highly professional, really knows what he's talking about, and tailors each session to best suit your own personal needs. Training with him has made a genuine difference to me and I'd have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone else (my husband has started now having seen how good it's been for me).
  15. I've just seen Council workmen gritting Grove Vale. The trains are running to and from London Bridge from ED station.
  16. My husband inadvertently left a pair of shoes just outside by our back door one night last summer. In the morning, one had disappeared, and we eventually put it down to foxes. Several months later I woke up one morning to see the self same shoe almost placed bang in the middle of our garden. Went down there to find that the fox had also left a big fox poo right on top of it. Couldn't help feeling the foxes were having a laugh at us!
  17. Widdy - I totally agree with you on the issue of funding. Of course times are tough and funding is very limited but the Council can't use that as a reason not to even notify those residents who would be directly affected by the proposed zone (but live just outside it) of these proposals, or seek their views. Frankly, I think the issue of funding is more significant in this consultation than the Council would like us to believe. Why claim that it's all down to resident requests and parking data when, for example, the Council's own officer explicitly told me that the reason Oglander and Everthorpe hadn't been included in the proposed zone was due to the additional funding that would be involved? Oh yes and the so-called relevant fact that you can't drive in to Oglander from Grove Vale (as borne out by the quote Siduhe posted on page 7). Let's just be logical for a moment - okay you can't drive into the road from Grove Vale, but that road happens to be a 5 minute walk to the station, and that is a shorter walk to the station than many of the roads in the proposed zone (e.g. East Dulwich, even Ondine). Shall we take a guess at what any reasonable commuter wanting to park near the station is going to do? Pay a premium to park in East Dulwich Road and then have a longer walk to the station, or park for free on Oglander to the detriment of all the residents who won't be able to park on their own road, or indeed anywhere else in the zone as they won't be able to get a CPZ resident's permit. How can this possibly be a rational, evidence-based consultation?
  18. I live in Oglander Road. Reading gmackenney's quote from the response received from the Council, I wonder exactly what consultation/information they are referring to because in four years of living here, I have never previously been asked for my views on parking and I can assure you I would have expressed them if I had. So exactly what are they basing this consultation area on? If it is views expressed prior to four years ago, then surely they can hardly be described as current or relevant as many residents will have changed in that time, and indeed parking habits may have done also. I am very angry that the Council has taken the decision only to contact residents living within the proposed CPZ zone to ask for their views. The purpose of consultations is surely to seek the views of people who will be directly affected by the proposed policies. Clearly for those of us living in Oglander - a road closer to the station than some of the roads that would fall within the proposed CPZ e.g. Ondine - parking would be likely to be an impossibility if the CPZ comes in. The road will become the number 1 option for commuters seeking free parking near to the station. Yet residents in the street wouldn't even know about the consultation if it was left to the Council. I will be taking this up with the Council directly as in my view this must go against the Council's consultation principles.
  19. James, Do you have any further information on the pilot rubbish collection scheme? I see you expressed concern about this pilot previously. We received a letter saying we were in the scheme and I duly ordered one of the new food caddies about three weeks ago now, but it has not yet arrived. Unhelpfully the letter says that the new scheme starts "in October" and the person I spoke to on the phone when ordering the caddy could not give a specific date. So far no further letter confirming when the scheme starts, but I just hope they get the caddies and bags out there in time. Do you know if there is a firm date set for when the scheme starts?
  20. Was thinking of trying the new Victoria Inn, when we got a flier through the door a few days ago about The Montpelier in Choumert Road being under new management. Full marks for pro-activity, I thought, so we gave it a go last night - very relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, really good food (not overpriced) and affordable wine list. Would definitely go back and it's good to have some alternatives to the usual suspects down Lordship Lane. Anyone else tried it?
