  1. Guys - convince doubters that chalk and cheese are in fact very similar by taking a wedge-shaped piece of chalk, painting it yellow and keping it down the front of your trousers for some time.

    The Euro

The pound is worth about 1.15 euros at the moment. It has been hovering around this mark for about 2 1/2 years now give or take 5c despite all the shenanigans. Where will it be this time next year? (I am currently paid in GBP but am soon to be moing over to euros). If the pound strengthens significantly aginst the euro then i'm sunk.
  3. Get a box of apples and put beside it a box of pears. Then compare them.
  4. A jacobs cream cracker with a thick slice of extra mature chedder cheese topped off with some of Mrs O's home made chutney - I'm positively salivating...
  5. Liverpool racecourse is classified as town and not country. Tweeds are therefore out of place. Gentlemen should accordingly wear their normal city attire.
  6. What's wrong with saying Scotch?? (Make mine an Ardbeg)
  7. Actually , neither have I , or for that matter anyone in my family. Splendid, if it werent the aircraft waking you up it'd just be something else, bin-men, milkman, foxes shagging etc etc - you live in a big city after all...
  8. The 400 quid quoted by a previous poster for bespoke shoes may seem expensive but it includes making the wooden last (which is an exact copy of your foot) upon which the shoes are made.(This is why these shoes dont need breaking in - they are comfortable from day 1). I expect all susbsequent shoes are much cheaper (unless of course your foot has changed shape in the mean time). I dropped in my favourite lofers for new heels and soles last saturday - 40 quid for a pair of shoes which will effectively be as good as new!!! Long live cobblers!!
  9. Sue - do you ever engage your brain before attacking the keyboard?? On your analysis all events which are "comunity events" are worth supporting with tax-payers money right???
  10. Because it appears to be divisive Sue.... p.s. Sue - I'm sorry if you disagree...
  11. Actually, you're right Sue. My description was wholly based on a vague generalisation and crude stereotyping of all things Irish. So there wasn't any bright green clothing, warm Guinness or "tiddly-tee" music??? If not I take it all back. (But it would seem rather pointless to hold an Irish festival without any of the foregoing??) So in your own words Sue, what WAS the attraction of this festival and why should we lament its demise??
  12. I would not advise taking any child under the age of about ten on the open road. Younger children do not have the hazard perception able to make the kind of choices which we as adults do when confronted with a potential threat. Even at the age of 10 I would say cycling on Lordship Lane would be a big challenge. British Cycling (the sports governing body) does not allow youth riders to compete on open roads until they are 16. Herne Hill Youth Cycling Club run mountain bike sessions on Saturday mornings in the safe environment of Herne Hill Stadium.
  13. I for one shan't be lamenting the loss of the Irish Festival. The thought of of sweating gingery Irish folk (and assorted wannabes) clad in bright green man-made fibres and drinking warm Guinness whilst listening to "tiddly-tee" music is more than one could bear. I come from a gingery-Scots background - we don't feel the need to have festivals celebrating our Scots heritage. What's the attraction of these things???
  14. 'Never eat shredded wheat' is for memorising the points of the compass - whats that got to do with maths formulae?? We had a formula we had to remember for structural mechanics- f/y = m/I = E/r this became f*ck young mary in every room....
  15. I remember when you used to be able to go to the night mail train in Glasgow Central station at 11.30pm and post a letter straight on to the train for delivery next morning in London!! Is this still possible in the London rail terminals or does everything go by air now???
  16. also be aware that whilst it is possible to book tickets now you wont actually know where you are going to be seated until after you have paid for them because the have not finalized the seating plans
