Has the ED housing market reached the bottom yet ( II )
MrBen replied to snorky's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The best thing is the death of all those tv shows. Watch A Place in the Sun now and it's already looking horribly dated. I never got that show - why would someone want to choose between Wales and a villa with a pool in Portgual? -
Has the ED housing market reached the bottom yet ( II )
MrBen replied to snorky's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
IndieP - I understand the concept of interest rates and tracker mortgages - so it's not strange that my tracker has therefore fallen with the base rate! The point I was trying to make was....that quite a few of us might be actually better off (although certainly won't be shouting about it) as big short term savings on certain mortgages will off set any of the losses on fuel and food, both of which are now falling again. Assumes that they still have a job. And dont get too hung up about their current house price. -
I knew this thread would get very materialistic. Surely the true joys in life are the crunch of frosted leaves on a crisp sunny Autumn morning? The joys of a tasty, but simple meal with good friends? The Guardian (for most of you) on a Saturday morning... No bollocks to that! So here's some more: - Guitars! - the tobacco sunburst Fender '62 reissue I bought from a very kind Scotsman on this forum - My new Oliver Sweeney boots with the chunky soles - A glass lemon juicer from 1930's that was handed down from my great grandma and squeezes lemons so well it makes me happy - The very last Smiths album - David Carnells boxer shorts - which are still in my spare room

I love how some posters on this thread are coming out with their new predictions about when the market will bottom out and how far it will fall. Anyone can repeat whatever they have just read in the sunday papers. They don't know either. I'm happy to admit I was wrong. Back in Feb I predicted a 15% fall max - it's already done about 20 and that's assuming you can even find a buyer. With no market it's hard to even gauge a price. But strangely my mortgage is cheaper than ever before. Is that just me or is there anyone else out there who is also actually better off as a result of this? -
...is my new memory Mirrorfoam mattress! Seriously brilliant - I now look forward to going to sleep. You will never use a sprung mattress again. And at ?700 it is a bargain when you spend a third of your life asleep. And it changes your life.. So buy one. Now. Anyway - what is teh best thing you have ever bought and why?

Pub = carpets and comfy seats Bar = None of the above + at least 1 cocktail
-
As a long term Liquorish observer I think its back on track. I was in ther the other night and it was jumping, people dancing in the back - good tunes chatting in the front. Mainly a 20-30 something crowd. A new food menu. Still some good cocktails and staff much better than when this thread started. Its now part of the lane establishment. I like!

That was a mildly entertaining yet grim game to watch. But good to go through it with about 25 other tartan army at the EDT. I'm planning to be in Amsterdam for the next one in March. What a shocking miss - an open goal too.
-
Right lads (and lassies). The EDT ARE showing the Scotland game today. Or so they just told me. And as I'm not going back to the motherland until next weekend I'll be down there - will look out for you Help Ma Boab! I think it will be a decent game - the Norwegians are alright. And I have stuck a tenner on Faddie to get one.

I've been going to the Thai Corner for 7 years now. Only had a few ok-ish meals but all the rest have been great as was last weeks. The staff are friendly, the food is cheap and nicely cooked. And you can take your own wine. So big thumbs up from me.
-
If you ask the EDT nicely they may try and show it. Provided its quiet. They have done that a few times for me. Or use the forum to round up some tartan army. I'd come and join you roygbiv but think I'll be up in the that day myself breathing fresh air and getting a decent Haggis supper for the first time in 6 months. The EDT or The Hoot are your best bets.

I was in Hisars for dinner with Patrick (John Travolta from the Office) last week. Not a resident but deserves a mention. It's not every day you get to sample neck of lamb with Flashdance MC Hammer type shee-yat. But in SE22 Sean Mcghabhan is by far the most famous resident. Everyone knows that.

Adventure bar - East Dulwich (Lounged when no longer about same)
MrBen replied to James's topic in The Lounge
I am working on the rules, will link up with Aced Out and will get back in a day or two but please send in your ideas! It has to be fair. After all this is serious shit. -

Good stuff MP. I'm glad you agree. The line that got me kicked out was "the Mojito is the barometer by which any cocktail bar should be judged". Before I got the boot! -
Adventure bar - East Dulwich (Lounged when no longer about same)

Right chaps / gals. I was in Adventure to celebrate the birthday of a mate a week or so back - on a Tuesday. Ended up with 4 of us at the bar after hours and I took the drunken opportunity to er "intelligently debate" various aspects particularly their Mojito, Ikea/Athena decor and tinny sound system which has come in for a bit of stick. Anyway despite my polite and eloquent comments I annoyed all three barman particulary the aussie one with the spikes and got kicked out. Before they thought better and invited me back in for a shot on the house. Anyway - its time to stop dicking around and to resolve this once and for all - forget about the economy /US elections it's time for the East Dulwich Mojito Challenge! I am currently working on the rules and how this will work to be fair to all but I intend to enlist the expert help of Aced Out and an independent panel of judges who fancy themselves as blind tasters. Please PM me if interested. The winner will get the massivley coveted title of Best Mojito in East Dulwich and a framed picture of a smiling Sean McGhabanananan with his thumbs up for behind the bar. Stand by for full details soon.... -

I went there for the first time last night. I actually liked it. A lot. And the crowd was local ED a real mix. What they have done with the space is impressive. I saw some fit girls from Willis B and the guy with the fake tan from Ludlow Thompson. What more do you want? -
Bishop then Adventure. Then back to the Bishop again if Adventure is rubbish. Or vice versa. EDT can be good too. Not that I'd know of course.;-)

Class A Lawsuit relating to fuel surcharges BA and Virgin
MrBen replied to Ladygooner's topic in The Lounge
I got it and reckon I'm due about ?200. You can avoid getting exact flight details if you have a BA /Virgin exec club card. -
Can I wear chinos?
-
Yep - I think the Bishop foxes may require altogether different tactics. Ideally not involving a firearm, human hair or urine. Although you could say those three are the sign of a good night out.
-
I got this tip from the crafty old guy at the garden centre: Stuff the foot of some old tights with human hair (from a hairdressers...or your own). Tie the stockings into little balls and place strategically around your garden. The human scent keeps them at bay. Apparently. Alternatively get a .263 calibre Winchester, with a night sight and a silencer. Works a treat up to about 100 yards.

Quick summary of the above for those who have yet to experience this: 1. You phone up. A robot tells you to go to A&E if you about to die. 2. If you are not about to die you are put on hold. 3. If you are lucky, someone answers. If not you have 25 minutes of guitar jazz funk before losing the will. 4. If answered, you are told that an appointment with a doctor is not possible. Instead you give your name and number for a "consultant nurse" to call back at a pre arranged time 5. You wait at that time, cancel a meeting and nobody calls (my experience today). Bollocks.

Bye bye trains (Network Rail planning to ditch South London line)
MrBen replied to Rico's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I know at least three close friends who use that route in on a daily basis. It's great if you work in Victoria and you mostly get a seat. They won't be happy. -
And I tell you what. I'm f*&%%%ng bringing some Keane along to the next Lucky 7's night.
