Cycling definitely needs to be encouraged, but it's not a panacea. We need decent public transport too. There is an obvious shortage of high frequency train / tube services in SE London generally and we should be pushing as hard as possible to have this disparity addressed in my opinion. That doesn't necessarily mean a tube for ED, but better services across this part of London would seriously reduce congestion and pollution. It's kind of ironic that the one part of London with the worst roads into the centre (because of the river and the inevitable bottlenecks created by convergence of all roads around a few bridges), also has only a handful of underground stations.

From the little I know, it appears quite a big and growing 'scene', just search on YouTube for 'bike life uk', or see https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/moped-gang-raise-it-up-uk-ace-cafe-london There a often big meet ups near Tower Bridge / Potters Fields. Often these kids have no plates and wear balaclavas. It's a big problem and only a matter of time until innocent pedestrians get killed. The police appear unable to stop it, and won't give chase for fear of causing an accident. The kids therefore behave with impunity. We've seen some huge 'rideouts in London' especially around Halloween.l, with bikes riding on pavements through Red lights in the wrong lane

Because they can't form words and don't have the intelligence for complex speech.

I went to a Catholic school, where many of my friends families supported the IRA. Their houses would have pictures of paramilitaries on the wall in full garb holding guns. I certainly understood the situation in Northern Ireland to be a case of English occupation. Of course I now know it's more complicated than that and looking back realise how weird it was that people celebrated / glorified the violence in that way.

This is the weirdest thread. It feels like there is something that people want to say, but aren't.

Term-time leave can only be granted in exceptional circumstances - so the head actually has very little discretion at all. Personally, I think that the state should get tae fook when it comes to dictating the day to day operations of the school. You're right though, this case is probably wasn't the strongest exemplar, when it comes to defending (a worthy) principle (or a worthy Principal for that matter).

It used to be the School Heads could grant up to 2 weeks term-time holidays at their discretion, in cases where there was generally good attendance. My reading of it (maybe I'm wrong) is that the law was changed to remove that discretion. It seems to me that the Head should run the day to day operations of the school, not the state.

I'm not sure KL is getting a lot of support on here.
