People say this, but I don't see why it is any different to people like myself who have had to move to London from their home towns to find work. This means leaving families scattered all over the country. I have no immediate family (other than my wife!) within 200 miles.

Is ED really worth double somewhere like Hither Green? I suppose I am saying that in the current market ED seems dramatically overvalued compared to surrounding areas. Is it really worth 50% more than Forest Hill? I'm not so sure.
  3. I just bought a 3 bed Victorian terrace in Hither Green of 1270 sq ft for ?470k. Half mile to the station or I can get to Blackheath or Lewisham in 3/4 miles walk. Same house in East Dulwich would be ?800k today. Is it really worth it? I am leaving my 2 bed rental flat by Dulwich Park this month...
  4. Well as an interesting anecdote - after renting for years in East Dulwich I have bought a 3 bedroom Victorian terrace house in Hither Green for ?470k. It is around 1300sq ft. Not sure what that would be in East Dulwich but thinking at least ?650k. From my experience SE23 / SE4 has rapidly made some ground vs East Dulwich but still about 15% cheaper. Prime spots of Hither Green are around 10% cheaper than ED but there is much more local variation - i.e. places around Manor Park command a massive premium compared to others.

James, I didn't realise that you were the LD transport spokesman for Southwark. For me, bike storage is a bit of a distraction compared to the real issue of poor, cycle unfriendly planning in the borough. There are so many cycle paths that have been designed seemingly without any input from cyclists. Some examples: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Rolls+Road,+Camberwell&aq=2&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=14.358205,32.519531&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Rolls+Rd,+Camberwell,+Greater+London+SE1+5,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.489336,-0.073427&spn=0.007375,0.015879&z=16&layer=c&cbll=51.489336,-0.073427&panoid=ZrhiiADE5jNYsMhBPPNtpw&cbp=12,92.14,,0,13.38 - on the no 23 signposted cycle route. Why so many bollards?! Not exactly practical if you are taking panniers on commutes to work. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=tooley+street&aq=&sll=51.489336,-0.073427&sspn=0.007429,0.015879&g=Rolls+Road,+Camberwell&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Tooley+St,+London+SE1,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.503854,-0.083063&spn=0.007426,0.015879&z=16&layer=c&cbll=51.503746,-0.083034&panoid=w7KzvvFV1WK6I6zvxDsg6w&cbp=12,200.73,,0,-0.12 - bollards right in the middle of a cycle path. Why?! I could go on but these are just the ones on my commute... I know proper cycling infrastructure costs money but Southwark can at least get rid of obstacles like these.
  6. What is the point of a Waitrose when Ocado deliver to the area? It would put Moxon's, William Rose etc out of business.
  7. We had three metal plant pots nicked from our back garden. Not worth more than ?20 but somebody thought worth nicking!?
  8. Have cycled to Greenwich through Nunhead. Fine but there is a massive hill just before St John's which is a bit of a shock when normally cycling from ED to central London is flat! You can go via Greenwich foot tunnel to Isle of Dogs but have to walk through. Also lift wasn't working last time I went so had to carry the bike!
  9. Tell them to bugger off. Unfair on the poor individual, but the only way these companies will learn. I had Sky call me last night offering me an extended warranty on my Digibox which I apparently now own. I quoted the Sale of Goods Act at them ("fit for purpose") and clearly sent the guy off his script. Besides, even if my box broke down do Sky really think I am going to pay them for the privilege of replacing it? If they won't replace it, I'll just cancel...
  10. Don't screw up. There is no point selling pre-packaged days old Yo Sushi fare.

  12. Might I suggest sending Boris Johnson a Twitter message about the Brick Lane bike "sales": It is ridiculous that people are openly selling stolen bicycles with impunity.

Like Liquorish - I've said it before, and I'll say it again - who wants parsnip on a pizza? If you want pizza, chances are you want a bit of rocket, Parma ham, pepperoni or whatever. Not some weird combination a chef decides to come up with.
