  1. My favourites: "M&S represents naffness and isn't a draw for customers who have discerning taste. They, like myself, will travel down to Brixton Village where you can get the full works of independent retailers and more importantly, surrounded by cool minded people" "I like all things cool so I'll be avoiding M&S on Lordship Lane and spending more time in Brixton and Spitalfield as their retail environment tends to cater more to my exquisite tastes"

    Bees swarming

I have heard rumours that there are going to be a few hives installed in Camberwell old cemetry. Does anybody know whose these are? would love to have a look / get to know a little more about the hives.
  3. UDP "It's telling when Hugo has lost the argument. He resorts to insults, accuse others of lying, and bizarrely comes up with this weird matter of secret messages" Administrator May 21, 09:26PM "Please leave out the personal insulting comments people. Undisputedtruth you were removed from the forum before because of complaints against you and your attitude but you were let back in. You're not in the Lounge now so please play nicely" UDP - logical as ever
  4. UDP - you posted that before and if you read previous posts you will see why you are wrong.
  5. UDP please do post whatever you think it is that I don't understand.
  6. Hi First Mate I have just had a cursory look at previous posts and it seems I have only used Nimby twice - once in the post replying to UDP and the other replying to you in the CPZ post - not really "quite a few times" to be pedantic, "The devils in the detail" as you point out. You state "are you really in favour of daily deliveries by articulated lorries onto a residential street beginning at 6am?" To be brutally honest it doesn?t bother me that much. I have lived in Clapham next door to a Sainsbury?s, in North London next door to a Tesco and over time you do get used to it. When I had problems I spoke to the store manager / head office / the council and generally things do get sorted. As before - you live near a main shopping road in London, you should expect disturbance. "Have you actually seen the site of the proposed deliveries and seen for yourself how small the proposed space will b and are you clear just how big the delivery lorries are" Yes and yes - big Lorries - not much space "There are good planning proposals and bad ones- this is a bad 'un where the absolute focus appears to be on maximising the value of the property rather than effecting a balance between commercial interests and the quality of life of locals. ." You talk about maximising value and bad planning applications. All commercial planning applications are about maximising value - no one in their right mind would put time / money and effort into planning a store if it wasn?t to maximise value. When you mention balance and quality of life what you mean is quality of life for the very local residents who live next to the store - what you miss out and is mentioned by penguin 68 is the balance of "The value of having an M&S store locally (and clearly, vide the past threads there is a perceived value to many) will have to be balanced against the disruption to those living closely around the site" I would think those who want the store outweigh the minority who don?t. "You should be fairly clear by now that this is not simply an issue about parking- a massive over simplification on your part" I am aware this isn?t an issue just about parking. If you read the thread in it entirety my response is to UDP who has tried to turn a parking issue into a campaign to "save the lane" If I was you I would be more concerned about the land the car wash is on, in the market at the moment that is a small goldmine for the right developer.
  7. Hi UDP "Or is it a case that you don't give a care to people's blighted lives as long as you can get your M&S goodies locally?" Nothing really to do with that - I get mine at London Bridge when in the mood but normally shop around Forest Hill road. I don?t particularly rate M and S as a food retailer. Regarding the blight, I would prefer to consider the quiet views of the majority over the minor view of those whose lives really aren?t going to be affected that much by a change in Supermarket. However it?s more to do with the fact that you are trying to turn your personal agenda about parking into ?a fight to save lordship lane?. It seems you don?t even shop on the lane that much anyway? ?M&S represents naffness and isn't a draw for customers who have discerning taste. They, like myself, will travel down to Brixton Village where you can get the full works of independent retailers and more importantly, surrounded by cool minded people.? ?I like all things cool so I'll be avoiding M&S on Lordship Lane and spending more time in Brixton and Spitalfield as their retail environment tends to cater more to my exquisite tastes.? Maybe we and the lane are not cool enough for you, And then you mention clone towns. How will M and S (a chain store) replacing Iceland (another chain store) make Lordship lane a clone town? Lordship lane is already a clone town / street ? the majority of estate agents / supermarket / banks / pubs are chains. The joy of the lane is the independent shops which are in the majority maintained by the increasing affluence of East Dulwich and in most cases would welcome the M & S as it would bring in more footfall and trade. In fact the nearest non clone town is Rye Lane where the majority of stores (at least towards the rye end) are independent clothes shops and butchers. This is the area that you think the M and S should move to and improve its mix of shops? ?An M&S in Peckham would also help its own diversity of shops.? Finally you don?t seem to know what you want to replace the Iceland or improve the lane. ?Lordship Lane could perhaps do with a gift shop chain as to up the competition. I do find stock in the local gift shops rather uninspiring to say the least? ?I rather see an independent retailer take over the site where it's more likely that the neighbours won't be disturbed by articulated Lorries at a very anti-social time and add further diversity of offerings to the shopper? Poor attempt to turn a personal parking agenda into a campaign to prevent the "gentrification of Lordship Lane"
  8. UDP is it really about "the fight to save lordship lane" is it?. Its more about the parking and the fact that you might get woken up by deliveries. Smacks a little of nimbyism
  9. But if the objection goes ahead and M and S pull out (if they are the supposed retailer) then you have an empty retail unit - any objections you have now will be multiplied many times over if Tesco move in. M and S are an approachable supermarket , Tesco are not and are expanding rapidly.

    .

Try - all my bonkers friends who think the "man is out to get them" are all heavy users of various white powders I always thought that a much easier way to "dose the population" would be to put something in the water - much easier and cheaper than flying around the place.
  11. Surely residents who live near a road with shops should expect developments like this, I live near Camberwell old cemetry, I moved in when it was unused but it is now being considered for new burials. This doesn't bother me as I bought a house next to a cemetry
  12. Managed to fix our oven over the phone - top man and highly recommended.
  13. Be careful of what you wish for - you might get a tesco. They are much more aggressive when it comes to planning etc
  14. What a selfish response to a free service, fundamentally the website is the owners "trainset" and they are free to play with it as they see fit. Even as a charity / free service you have achieved an awful lot of advertising without having to pay a penny. If you don?t like the way you have been treated then vote with your feet and set up your own website.
  15. GSirett - what are your thoughts on the proposed M and S? Your contribution to this thread so far has been anti CPZ and James Barber bashing - nothing really to do with M and S apart from a "feeling in your waters" ? Please don?t derail this useful thread into local party politics
  16. Should the terrapin be reported and removed? Definitely not native and dependent on species quite a predator on birds eggs etc.
