  1. I'm back but using my mobie as PC is overheating. Prefer a proper keyboard and screen, don't find the mobile version so easy to use.
  2. Datacars good. Used FHC in the past and Ok too. Expect cheaper option than getting one on the rank.
  3. Sorry tomorrow or the day after. Hot weather has already got to me!
  4. Does John Hayes MP post on this thread? (Any excuse...). He's the one that called the severe weather planning an over reaction by a bunch of snowflakes. We will have the warmest day on record today or tomorrow. There will be massive disruption. It's a pity that the current Tory leadership campaign doesn't feature climate change.
  5. Nice to see a large flock of noisy long talked tits. Also saw a house sparrow in the garden. Run out of water from our three butts and a large reserve tank that I top up in winter. Only been using it for topping up pond. Grey water generally on the garden. Haven't got the crystals for dechlorinating tap water yet but understand that I can leave tap water outside and it will lose its chlorine

Then please suggest another word, as per OP you will find I didn't think it was appropriate.
  7. Sorry Concorde is out of stock, Babycham is a good alternative: https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/258444966
  8. You can get really nice knife sets from bargain shops for about a tenner. They are a bit bendy and don't cut that well but look impressive. I find it best to buy cheap mild cheddar of unknown country of production from the supermarkets. It cuts with a blunt table knife, and you don't have to worry about the taste as there isn't any. It goes well with any booze, particularly Concorde wine. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Concorde-Medium-Sweet-Wine-75cl/dp/B01DYTHRB8
  9. Just returned from a holiday and one of our group took dozens of selfies. Never take them, find them dreadful pictures with the one face in the foreground, intrusive, and would rather stop a stranger and get them to take a nice picture. Trouble is they've run off with my various i-phone 13s and Samsung 22 ultras when I've tried this. Joke. Is it a case of just go with it, there are bigger battles to fight? And if you have a less pejorative term than Chav please suggest it and I will change the title.
  10. It would be good to hear some informed views on this. I had enough of the hang them and flog them brigade, which was almost universal, on Questiontime last night. Labour stood on the fence, but please don't turn this into a thread to have a go at them. So I respect the right to take industrial action. I don't want anything to deter people from using public transport. I've been through numerous transport strikes in the past and this was fairly common in previous decades. I'm not going down the state vs private route as privitisation has been a license to print money for the train operating companies (and ironically some failed so badly in service provision that government took over). Personally I don't like going down the "oh they are already paid more than nurses argument, nurses pay is a separate matter and fed up with those on the other site using this against TfL employees. I know that in terms of unions RMT are probably one of the worst to deal with, but I expect they have a high membership and the members wanted this action. This personally affects my holiday plans so hope for a compromise to be reached, but don't know what that is.
  11. Nicely put. If you want a negative view on the Gala go to the ED section of the site. Glad you enjoyed it.
  12. I spend my holidays in the Channel Islands or Scotland where they still have one pound notes. I come back with stacks, but even those traditional shops that still take cash refuse to accept my money. Well six years after we voted to leave the tyranny of the Common Market Johnny Foreigner is still running our country. Thank heavens the PM will be bringing back imperial units and ?SD.
  13. KK, not quite getting the thrust of your point.... HE GOT BREXIT DONE! Oh, wait a second, he didn't get it sorted, and the whole thing is a mess (irrespective of the opportunities Cat). Anyway we have our pint and mile, and soon traders in Kent and Lincolnshire can sell strawberries by the pound. Although the UK actually started to go metric in the 60s, being government policy long before the EU allowed us to join. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrication_in_the_United_Kingdom Hardly a victory over the evil EU Prime Minister.
  14. Pay attention, I had a thread on the daftness of Imperial Units a few months ago. Where I said that in the 70s Kelloggs had a cereal box campaign with simple ditties to convert to real world units. In the 80s a traditional Tory minister addressed the newly formed Office of Fair Trading and extolled the virtues of the metric system.
  15. In memory of Cathal who we lost this week

Not exactly a balanced diet. Substitute one pack of fags for some salt and vinegar crisps would be much better or push the boat out and pork scratchings instead. You could go further by one less lager and a pickled egg too, but that may just be too much and could end up with a nosebleed or vertigo.

??? Surely pheasant, partridge, swan, venison and beaver
  18. I'm actually angry since the Sue Grey report came out. It's late and if I start typing now wont get to bed till 1 and will lie their thinking about it all night. So you will have to wait. But a precis is that No 10 would not have behaved this way under previous PMs.
  19. I've made a complaint. No details here, but may discuss more by PM as needs. So, as practitioners are independent contractors, the practice appears to oversee the paperwork but take no active part. I may refer to NHS England, and ultimately the ombudsman. I know shed loads about dentistry, consumer complaints and the like, but would have far preferred the teeth being treated properly in the first place. I have lots of respect for the NHS, most of my practitioners, so this is a one off. Anyone got any general experience of making complaints? Any more detail please PM me. The money isn't important.
  20. Testimony is that many I have traded with are outside of East Dulwich, showing its wide appeal. Occasional down side is that some are just looking to resell at profit but I've sussed that out! I'd rather give free to a good home than someone make a quick buck Wont touch Gumtree with a barge poll as it is where stolen goods are often sold, including a bike of mine. Much more faith in ebay, even if it owns Gumtree, as there is a vetting process. Not sure of Facebook, but family has used it to sell unwanted clothing.
  21. quite sad at the loss of Cathal Coughlan, formally of Microdisney, Fatima Mansions and more recent projects. I caught both in the day, last seeing him at a Southbank concert - a 'musical conversation' between his native country (Ireland) and ours. https://www.ft.com/content/8b1431bc-1048-11e6-91da-096d89bd2173 https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/may/23/cathal-coughlan-frontman-with-irish-indie-bands-microdisney-and-fatima-mansions-dies-aged-61
  22. With the possibility of losing this forum are there other useful places to dispose of unwanted stuff? I've used freecycle in the past, and from time to time buy and sell on ebay, or get rid of stuff through car boot sales, St Christophers Hospice shops and the like. But the market place here has been very useful and got, or sent to a good home an eclectic mix of household things. My favourite free acquisitions were tadpoles, and top soil. Ideally hope someone takes it over and keeps much of it going. But are there other local forums out there worth looking at. SE23 and Sydenham don't appear to have the same footfall, for all their uses.
  23. You can get cast iron effect plastic, not bad, had to get mine on line as Selco didn't stock locally
  24. Got a 100 year old bed, cast iron with a sprung base. It must be at least 40 years old, but there are few shops that sell nowadays so may have to order on line. Anyone any experience? For example this lot do firm and sprung bases with two or three depths. Yes I understand a bit of a niche question http://divinedreams.co.uk/bed-bases-for-antique-beds/
  25. Some pretty good experience in the US, I hope we don't go all po faced about this, particularly as I expect many, if not most, have imbibed. (Separately it amused me about the outrage from red and black top journos about more harmful drugs, as I expect many have or had a coke habit)
