  1. To be honest we're not sure why we get christmas cards from PC either but they are cherished as is the one from Gary the milkman.
  2. James- I have to be a bit loyal- my precious daughter goes there............
  3. I always wave and say hello to some of the nice drivers when I go past panther cars. They have always been polite and on time and yes we get a christmas card from them too!
  4. purely a subjective view my friend
  5. They're going to build a super mini casino for us all as a thank you present from Tessa for keeping her in office all this time. Blankety blanks all round!
  6. Bzzzzzzz..........is this all deviation or just very enjoyable repetition ????
  7. Any one checked out the new posh cookery shop near Goose Green roundabout? Opened on Tuesday this week. ps workmen digging on roundabout this morning-bedding plants or new M & S?
  8. Call me shallow (cos I am in this respect) but I could never really be friends with any man who wore deck shoes.............
  9. OMG ! just seen some Charter school kids in uniform........they were talking quietly and politely moved aside to let me pass......only my word for it but worth considering......
  10. Best bit of East Dulwich- view of London fron Dawsons Heights. Fantastic.
  11. Askes band children according to ability and then are supposed to take a comprehesive intake from each band, starting with the children who live nearest the school. As of 2 years ago they have had to give siblings priority (quite right too). They also have a music status thingy and can select 40 children per year based on "musical aptitude." Kids who live a bit further away can get in under the wire that way.............
  12. My daughter is in her second year at the Charter School and has made loads of friends and is quite happy there......you need to go and look at any schools you are thinking about but don't assume you have any notion of choice! Askes takes kids from a small area, as does the Charter.....and of course most private schools make you jump through lots of hoops and tests and stuff.......state vs private is a fab forum topic so please wade in with a contreversial viewpoint we all love it...... ps any home educators out there??? join in please!
  13. I think they stopped selling food because too many toddlers were running amok and putting their greasy cous cous stained hands all over the merchandise........
  14. cinema paradiso still going strong- these days upstairs at the castle pub on crystal palace road. I think they are between seasons at the moment........
  15. just bought some delicious anchovies-not expensive and staff in shop v nice....
  16. If you are looking for primary schools then there is St Anthonys on Barry Road and St Francesca Cabriani on Forest Hill Road. You have to be baptized, your kids have to be baptized, of course you have to be married and a regular church attender for the schools to even consider you......my advice.......don't bother and don't be a hypocrite and pretend to go to church .that is sad, deceitful and a little pathetic.
  17. from the front line..........my 12 year old daughter was in the shop buying a birtday card when man in balaclava with gun ran in demanding money from till.....very frightening but he obviously an idiot as had parked his car on Fellbrigg and so number plate taken by several witnesses......I agree strange shop to choose....my daughter and friend had just left Grace and Favour where some other crook was shoplifting shoes, apparently incidents unrelated.I read in the South London Press that Community Council giving money to local Lordship Lane businesses so they can be hooked up together with panic alarms...... all very horrible and having read South London Press (not for the nervous disposition) it feels like we are in the middle of the Bronx...... ps daughter much calmer about whole thing than me and her dad but then she is from south london and we are northern softies......
  18. good plant stall please......and more cheap stuff for kids to do.........and fudge lady......lots of chocolate and a nice cold beer thank you very much .....
  19. I can't beleive that no one has mentioned the Clover butter advert filmed in Mundania/Therapia Road a couple of years ago complete with dancing cows..also changing Rooms filmed round Scutari Road somewhere as was Home Front in the Garden..... Madness of Modern Families currently on BBC2 was partly shot in various East Dulwich locations....Arctic monkeys in Peckham......some sitcom with Pauline Quirke, sorry can't remember name filmed a bit at top of Upland Road......
  20. Beth you speaketh the truth.....all my Guardian reading friends who can't just can't quite bring themselves to stay in the state sector for secondary schools really CUT ME TO THE QUICK. My advice would be don't listen to idle gossip about local schools- go and look and then look again and read between the lines of Ofsted reports and league tables. What Ofsted are looking for and what your child needs aren't necessarily the same. ps My kids at Goodrich and Charter-happy there neighbours kids at St. Johns-ditto friends kids at Dog Kennel Hill, Dulwich hamlet,St Anthonys, Grove vale, Heber -ditto ditto etc etc good luck!
  21. really not boasting about cherry tree - the tree was at an angle before we bashed into it! couldn't see it in mirror ....
  22. Yes Bobby I think I agree with you on the whole. Suddenly reminded me of when I lived in Brixton and we had to get up early to move car off yellow lines etc and jostle with neighbours for few parking permit spaces available. Hard for friends to visit etc. Obvious answer really is to do away with cars and get walking again or on our bikes (watch me wobble back to work on rusting bike wed morning). And of course if we do need a car then try not to have more than one.... Or why not campaign to local private schools to stop clogging our roads up with coaches that have dragged hot housed children from across London to be schooled in ED. Local schools for local children I say !!! (Gone off subject but there we go) ps if you use excellent blue brick cafe on Fellbrigg Road then watch out for cherry tree that is now at 45 degree angle to road. Our car has massive dent in back side from backing into it before xmas. Happy new year all !
  23. my road is so overcrowded I can't park even near my house. I use to be opposed to parking permits but they're looking like an increasingly good idea- especially in roads off Northcross .what do people in ED think?
