ED needs primary schools/places full stop, and the council ain't exactly falling over themselves to provide or plan for them, so the gap is being filled by free schools. In this case it's a bilingual free school. James Barber is also encouraging Harris to open another, general, school. We need both, or a whole lot of bulging.
My house is bilingual so I would welcome a bilingual primary school in the area. Many other parents have similarly noted their support, whether their house is bilingual or not. This support is reactive i.e. JKPS approached ED, rather than anyone in ED approaching JKPS having idenitifed a 'need' to have a bilingual school. So it's not really 'why a German school?', rather it's a question of do we want a bilingual school in the area? I do, some may not.
I'd encourage you to attend the open meeting if you have any questions or concerns.

I had to wait about 5 minutes in a queue to cross the junction on Saturday. It had no effect on my day whatsoever. Hope the works remedy the problem people have been moaning about on here for ages.

Do you have a good lawyer?

Good to see the JKPS team handing out leaflets on LL on Saturday. Here's hoping they choose ED to base their school.

What LM said. H was right to call her out.

Ha, ha, exactly.

I support this school and I thank James for his support of the school (which he has posted about on several occasions). Those interested should attend the pubic meeting:
Saturday 2 February, from 10.00 ? 11.00am at St Faith?s Community Centre, Red Post Hill, London SE24 9JQ

Bit harsh Otta. The essence of the OP's post is that they like the current HV and want to support her. I agree that there's no question here of removing the service, and some of the phrasing is hyperbole, but wanting to hang on to a good HV (or a favourite teacher) seems reasonable.

We've got the Maclaren Techno XT. A bit over your budget bought new, but it's great. We treat it very badly and it's showing no signs of wear and tear (after a year). What we particularly like about it is the ability to recline the seat near enough to horizontal, so our boy can sleep comfortably (and for longer) when we're out and about. It's also quite compact so cafe and bus friendly.

We've a Black and Decker model from Argos - fairly basic but it sucks up most of the dry stuff on our kitchen floor.
The Which? site doesn't rank handheld vacuums as for other products; it reviews each qualitively. Looks like the Dyson DC35 is the best, but it's 199 quid (gulp).
If you've got your eye on a particular model I can send you the Which? review (if there is one).

I agree with Ole.

So you're not just stirring, you're serious? Jeez mate, you really need to think before you post next time.

You're right Maxxi, it's happened so often that I just get on and deal with it now, so I'd encourage LU to tell Bob where to stick it.

Is anyone more informed and eloquent than me able to put forward an argument to justify these guys going on strike again, on Boxing Day again?
-
*Bob*, loving your work!

Guys, any chance we could treat this as a 'conscience' issue and park the politics?

My mates took me to Estonia for my stag do and one of the activties was an hour at a range firing increasingly large assault guns. I was very hungover and mildly bored. But two of my mates were well up for it and started asking questions like 'what sort of wound would this gun make?' and 'how far away from a person could you be and still kill them?'. One spent close to 100 euro on extra ammo. Both are otherwise 'normal' blokes. So while I don't get it myself, you don't need to be a cammo-wearing survivalist to enjoy firing a gun.

Fair enough *Bob*, I think most people indulge in a bit of NIMBYism. But few are honest enough to admit it e.g. one uses chain stores but one prefers them to be located on Rye Lane (out of sight but within walking distance). Many posters seem to be anti-chain stores full stop and that takes some doing in this day and age.
-
I was also insinuating (half-arsedly) that some of the rabid anti-chain store posters on this and other threads likely do a fair proportion of their shopping at chain stores (for a number of reasons) and some of their comments smack of NIMBYism.
-
I doff my cap to all you anti-chain store posters. Shopping must take you forever, and be very expensive, without patronising these chain stores.

When will the proliferation of 'trendy' pubs (Actress, Bishop, etc) require the definition of 'proper pub' to be reconsidered? In ten years time will forumites be lamenting the demise of the Actress, the last 'proper pub' in ED where you could get 15 varieties of Sav Blanc and there was plenty of space to park your buggy?
I agree with those who have said there are no scary pubs in ED, only the odd one where I quietly stash my pocket hanky in my man-bag before entering. Still not been glassed...
Back in NZ me and my mates walked into the Wharf Tavern one night and notwithstanding the smell of piss, stale sweat and the fact our shoes literally stuck to the carpet, approached the bar and ordered a couple of jugs. The landlord told us that was fine and if we managed to finish them before someone broke a pool cue over our heads they were on him. As far as we could tell we were the only punters there so decided to take him at his word.

Just finished reading 'High Concept' by Charles Fleming. About Don Simpson and the copious amounts of blow and hookers he got through (before said blow and hookers caught up with him and he died). Worth a couple of hours of your time.
-
Sorry first mate, but you're also expressing a personal opinion i.e. the impact of the development is more important than a desire for some posh cheese sticks. For most of ED, the personal impact of the development will be very limited and will not weigh heavily on their decision to support or object.

Interesting, thanks.
You're right that supporting families (including mine) may miss out on a place if the school locates out of ED (or even in ED but too far from home). In JKPS's case, they sought support for a number of locations and ran a poll of supporting families as to their preferred location, so they have mitigated this as far as possible.
