  1. I would take the ginger line to Clapham Junction, then go one stop to Wandsworth Common train station. All going well it won't take more than 30mins. I don't drive so I have no idea about the roads that time of day.
  2. I'm quite surprised to have woken up to hear aircraft this morning - clearly the big long haul flights. The winds can't be that bad after all.
  3. Here we go again. I think the 4.23am record so far recorded on this thread was broken this morning. That first jumbo was definitely before 4.20am.
  4. I (almost) daren't say this out loud but... could it be that all those travel fears were for nothing? I've had no problems getting in nor getting home via London Bridge. Admittedly I don't have to tube it anywhere. Work colleagues have all been pleasantly surprised too. In fact I'm yet to find ayone who has experienced any problems... How has everyone else fared?
  5. I can highly recommend a route to the Olympic Park. Peckham Rye to Blackheath, then 108 bus to Stratford. Tried and tested both ways yesterday. Not a single hitch. It took 1hr 20mins max. No crowds. I was so surprised but it worked like clockwork.
  6. I've just stored this number in my phone - thanks. I use Peckham Rye but up until now I have tended to use a very unscientific but highly accurate calculation Sunday = no trains. It is very rare to see a normal service on Sundays. Hopefully once the new line is finished we can get back to normal (unless of course this is the new normal)
  7. He's back!!! :) Admittedly a little quieter than I remember.
  8. Oh dear. That means my heating will have reset itself to factory settings. I'm away for a week so it looks like a large heating bill for me this quarter.
  9. "Heathrow night flight plan given an airing" p.4 of today's FT. Emirates Airlines suggesting a sharper descent into Heathrow will reduce noise and allow for a shorter time limit for no night flights (1am-4am)...
  10. I rather enjoyed his singing. It was always very cheery. I haven't seen or heard him for a week or two. I hope he hasn't been moved on.
  11. It's 5.20am I've counted 6/7 in the last half an hour - definitely 4 large planes. I've got to somehow turn my new radar/obsession off - but now I've noticed it. It'll be hard to go back to ignorance or denial. At least I don't have any issues with birdsong - no trees near my windows and I quite like the sound anyway.
  12. I woke up this morning, heard the planes, and my first thought was the wind must be coming from the west. I kid you not! The radio then said it was coming from the north (cold) but I guess it isn't an exact science.
  13. I think it is the wind as the quiet was at 5.30pm (and later). In fact there have been fewer planes at other times of the day - they've definitely been coming in from a different angle.
  14. It has been closed for a few weeks. Does anyone know why?
  15. I thought it only fair to mention the lovely silence this morning. Unfortunately the pessimist in me assumes those prevailing winds are still not prevailing and that business will be resumed shortly.
  16. I've just seen three or four bottles under a tree on Oglander. I'm assuming they are the same ones arsmith (above) spotted.
  17. I've been here 9 years and never noticed until last month. Obviously I'm not very observant. :) It does seem strange that should be the case when the earliest the large planes can't land before 6am. It doesn't bother me in the slightest, clearly it was taken me 9 years to notice it, but I'm just curious.
  18. is this the new norm? I didn't think large planes were allowed to land at this time. It's not the first time either.
  19. I've lived in East Dulwich for many years. It ebbs and flows - I remember another thread earlier in the year when the flight path changed and there were no planes going over at all http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,713746,714076 It all comes down to wind direction.
  20. Did anyone else have the pleasure of being on a Southern train from London Bridge this evening - with the comedy announcements? "We do this because we care". "A restaurant car is not available on this service". All delivered in a perfectly posh accent that rivals the Queen for proper English. "Peck-ham Rye". Brilliant. It really cheered me up. I assume this is for Children in Need or something. But I do wish it would become a permanent feature.
  21. Brockwell Park fireworks were spectactular. It was definitely worth waiting for that no 37 bus. It sounds like there are a few more going on tonight. Is there some display of sorts going on over by Peckham Rye Common? They're far too big for a back garden.
  22. I was disappointed to see it had disappeared. I thought it a fun and quirky addition to Bellenden road.
  23. Walked up Bellenden from Peckham Rye station half an hour ago. All ok. Half a dozen police outside the station. People about but not menacing. Bar Story open. Montpellier and Victoria Inn shut. Almost everything else closed too.
  24. I happened to notice there were a lot of orange butterflies around on Sunday. By orange they weren't gatekeepers, more like tortoiseshell. I've never seen them before (alas I don't have a garden) so when I saw half a dozen in various, distant corners of ED and Peckham on the same day it stood out.
