  1. It's not only the elderly who can be taken in by this. Everyone should be careful. There are two companies doing the rounds at the moment, Macrow Energy and SiG Energy Management, both are cold calling and Southwark Council have told me they are nothing to do with them. I usually won't have anything to do with door to door salespeople, but when these people called I thought they were making follow up calls as part of the Southwark Council RE:NEW energy scheme. It seems to me that both companies are homing in on East Dulwich because of this scheme, as neither callers denied being part of it when I mentioned it. In fact they implied that they were visiting houses as neighbours had complained no one had been to see them! I actually arranged a date for an installation (at the knock-down price of ?199)with one company, and only twigged that something was up when the other company phoned me to arrange installation with them. I then phoned Southwark Council who told me that neither company are linked to their RE:NEW scheme and they are cold calling. Southwark Council told me that whilst the RE:NEW scheme has now finished they may still be able to provide insulation FOC as one of their energy advisers visited us a while back. Needless to say I cancelled the installation straight away! So, I'm left feeling a bit of a mug for being taken in. I've had three different people look in my loft and two different companies after the business - neither of which are going to get it!
  2. Sounds like a very good idea to me. I've been working from home for a year now and I've found I'm particularly good at putting off doing the accounts! Please keep me posted of when and where. All the best. Richard Lane
  3. This guy is very intimidating. He approached me last night 8.00pm, when I had my wallet in my hand paying for my rail ticket at the ticket machine near Domino's. He said he needed money to buy food so, as I had my cash out I gave him a couple of quid. He then said he wanted notes, so I of course said no. It took ages to get rid of him. I didn't fancy waiting on the empty platform by myself, so I waited down on the street and he approached me for a second time asking for more money. Luckily by the time I'd got rid of him the train was due so I was able to get on that. I don't care if he is on crack or has mental problems - when you can't shake him off it is thoroughly unpleasant! I am a six foot man in my 40's and I found it very unsettling, so this must really upset elderly people or women with kids that he pesters. I have just phoned the SNT (thanks for the number Dave!) and they said that they have had a few reports of this bloke and will increase patrols in the Grove Vale area.
  4. I also live on Matham Grove and am not too happy about the prospect of having a cab company over the top of the Pistachio Club. Sometimes we have to park in other streets as there are so many cars. I really don't relish the thought of having loads of cabs parking there as well - or cutting up the street late at night. In the summer we sleep with the windows open and the noise from the cabs could be a particular problem, especially combined with the sound of people gathering at the end of the road waiting for cabs.
