  1. Any of these cars BMW's perchance? Apparently those zapper things are particularly effective with BM's, allowing theives to break in without breaking anything
  2. > LO being only 4 per hour - depends on your LO. At > HOP it's 8 per hour. Is that not because you get 4 per hour in each direction? Which is the same as Denmark Hill, Forest Hill etc
  3. Hello Just wondering if anyone knows of any professional cleaners to do an end of tenancy, deposit saving clean?! Any guesses for the amount we should be paying for this sort of thing? It's a 4 bed house Thanks

I was more concerned with p!ssing my neighbours off than noise from outside to be honest. It's a very quiet street so that wouldn't be an issue, and I know a little bit about treating acoustics for recording purposes. Just wondered if there was anything I could do to stop noise escaping. To be fair, I haven't moved in yet and don't know how much sound will travel along the terrace; fingers crossed not a great deal
  5. I'm about to move house and I think the biggest issue may come from the single glazed window in the room I'll be using for music stuff. Any ideas about perhaps sealing around the edges of the window... would that make a difference? My landlords are not going to be cool with any alterations to the house
  6. Good suggestions but possible not viable as he is renting and that sounds like quite heavy, permanent work. I am also interested in more of a temporary solution to soundproofing if anybody knows anything?
  7. Thanks for all your replies. In the end I disposed of everything in the big fabric-recycling bin outside Mind down by Goose Green; was the easiest solution without a car. Many thanks PN33
  8. Hello, Just had the horrible ordeal of sorting under the stairs and found several old duvets, sheets, pillows, suitcases etc. I know that charity shops will accept this stuff but a lot of it is quite scabby and I can't see them really wanting it. I was wondering if there was any way to recycle this sort of fabric-y stuff? Even if we don't recycle it, how would you even throw it away? Thanks in advance!
  9. Hi Tim, I'm interested to know if you mastered those recordings yourself or whether they were done by another? I'm gessing London Electricity has a standard mastering guy for Hospital releases? Thanks
  10. Hello I'm suffering from back pain and wondered if anybody could recommend a physiotherapist or maybe an oseopath? Please no suggestions for ESPH Thanks in advance!
  11. Does anyone know of any in the area? Thanks PN33

Me too. And there was another fatality last night on Commercial Street; 5 cyclists have died in London from collision's in the last 9 days. I boldly cycled right through the winter last year without a shed of fear really, but I have had 2 incidents this year and think I'll be putting my bike away for the year when the weather turns and reduces visibility. I guess the only annoyance with this plan is that we don't have the Underground so the trains will also be hopeless once it snows/ices over!

Thanks for that. What sort of size deposit are you suggesting? We already have a 20% deposit, would that cover it? I don't really understand why they need to know? Say we bought somewhere that needed work on a standard mortgage, spent 12 months doing it up and then rented out... would we be expected to switch our mortgage at that point? Eclectic- we are looking for either a 2 bed, or a one bed with a basement. We also need a garden becasue of our cat
  15. My girlfriend and I have been trying to think out of the box a bit, as we don't just want to give up on the property ladder but realise we can't buy in this area with our *measly* budget of ?250000! We are considering buying somewhere in an area we're not overly keen on living in just yet (we're 26 and still have partying to do!), such as Penge, Bromley etc and renting it out. If we could get a place to pay for itself we would at least have our savings invested in bricks and mortar and have it growing whilst we continue to rent somewhere in zone 2. Can anyone advise what's specifically different about a buy-to-let mortgage, and whether they actually need to know? And also, am I right in thinking we would be taxed on the rental income? Thanks in advance
  16. Apparently a load of BMW's on a single estate in Uttoxeter were zapped open and robbed in a single night not long ago. Don't have a link or anything but I know one of the victims. SLIGHT flaw in the design!

I suppose my only reservation about Anerley, or even Cystal Palace, is that it's a horribly hilly and long cycle into the city. It's just that bit far out. My office is relocating from Westminster to Old Street in April and that would perhaps be a stretch too far! I wouldn't let it stop me if we found the right house though I guess

A friend of a friend just bought a one-bed flat in a period conversion for ?320k in Nunhead. And I was in Roy Brooks the other day and saw a 4 bed in Nunhead for sale for ?800k.... that's the same as the average 4 bed on my current street in East Dulwich, Rodwell Road
  19. miga Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > what do people think about catford? seems just > about affordable. Not a lot to be honest. Not wanting to sound like a snob at all and beggars obviously cannot be choosers, but I couldn't live there. I wouldn't feel safe walking home at night, and certainly wouldn't allow my girlfriend to do so, meaning it is straight off my list.
  20. I'd live in Sydenham (now, wasn't considering it before!) but to be honest, my Rightmove search is now 'South East London added within the last 24 hours' as opposed to 'SE15 within 1/2 a mile added within the last month' as it was when we naively started this process! Demand is so low that I don't even feel in a position to choose, it's more a case of having a list of "Yes's" and a list of "No's" in terms of area and hoping for the best!
  21. I'm one of the unfortunate first-time-buyers having my soul steadily eroded as the weeks pass! We cannot exceed the ?250k barrier because of the 3% stamp duty (although Boris mentioned this at the Tory conference so maybe they'll drop it for FTBuyers sometime soon) and we wouldn't really want to face repayments on mortgages much bigger than the ?200k we'd need in that scenario. We've known since the beginning that ED was out of the question given our requirements (we need a garden, and if it's one-bed we need some other storage like a study or basement for my music studio). We naively thought that we could just jump over the Rye and buy in Nunhead, but this is not even the case any more. Further down on our list was Deptford, Crystal Palace.... but even they seem impossible with our budget. I went for a viewing in Catford for an absolutely perfect house but couldn't vibe with Catford... I wouldn't feel comfortable letting my girlfriend walk home at night to be honest. The other madly depressing thing is that 12 of the 15 viewings we've been on already have been group viewings or 'open days', with people falling over each other to buy and asking prices being largely ignored! I guess I'm after some advice if people wouldn't mind. 1) If you had to choose between the likes of Norwood, Hither Green, Anerley, Charlton, Woolwich... what would you choose? Am I missing any more potentially affordable areas which aren't too bad? 2) If we change our plans completely when our tenancy runs out in March (currently house-sharing with friends) and decide to rent a place of our own until this current scenario cools down, perhaps for a year or two, are we just going to find ourselves in an even more expensive, competitive market? Part of me thinks it's 'now or never'... in fact if I'm honest with myself, it's more like '2 years ago or never'. PLEASE SOMEBODY SAY SOMETING POSITIVE!!!! Thanks in advance
  22. Dear all, I currently share a studio space in Camberwell which I share with 2 others; one of whom is leaving in 3 weeks. Our room is a pretty decent size; this photo doesn't really do it much justice (it's awkward to take a good photo in there) but hopefully gives you an idea: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=ejewe0&s=5#.Ukq2BCSx47A Where I was stood when I took this photo, there is a sofabed and a vocal booth to the right. It's in the basement of an office block and because it's fully soundproofed and underground, there are no noise restrictions at all and it's a mere ?80 a week (IN TOTAL); so between the 3 of us we just pay ?26.66 a week essentially, with a monthly electric bill to split, usually another ?5/6 a month each. We use Google docs to schedule our visits in and it's generally not limiting sharing it 3 ways. Not exclusively for musicians/producers, would suit a variety of crafts! Get in touch if you're interested. Cheers
  23. Ok great, interesting points raised. To be fair we have enjoyed living in East Dulwich for the last couple of years but there are elements of it which just don't suit our age group/situation. I think it's a fantastic place to live as a young family but we're not there yet and won't be for a good 5 years. I run a club night in Brixton and DJ/produce electronic music, and ED just doesn't have that arty creative edge which I like about Peckham and that seems to be apparent in Nunhead to a (refreshingly) lesser extent. I think I'm probably just going to hold out for something in Nunhead/Forest Hill, whilst potentially having a look out a bit further to Catford and the other way, to Deptford. We have been assured by several estate agents that we will have no problem moving to these areas with our budget and that it's just a case of waiting for more to come onto the market after the summertime lull.
