Bubble and squeek - east dulwich road
jimmah replied to Thomas Micklewright's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is a PapaJohns in Lewisham. Made a special trip there to try them out because the TV ads looked really good and they did buffalo wings. The pizzas are pretty good, they are something like a Dominos but maybe a bit posher. Their garlic dip is a bit weird though, it's not the creamy stuff but melted garlic butter and a bit sickly after a while. The buffalo sauce isn't the same as I had in the US but still good. If they open up here I will be happy! -
I back the Southampton Way route too, I ride to Oxford Circus everyday and take Soton Way then cut through Addington Square and Bethwyn Rd to Kennington and then Lambeth Bridge to Parliament Square and up Regents Street. There's no traffic apart from the Regents Street bit.

Thanks for explaining east of the Rye, you are right about the junction. I think an extra roadsign would just add to street clutter and its doubtful whether it would make a difference to cycling habits (good and bad). I wonder if parking restrictions on the eastern side of the park might add to speed problems, currently people are forced to moderate their speed simply because of the chicanes made by parked cars. If the road was clearer surely people will incline to drive faster.

This plan seems really well thought out I like it. Am I right in thinking though that there is already a cycle bypass going south from the lane? I use one in front of Austin Court. Slightly off topic, the crash outside the Rye Hotel the other week seems to have wiped out the red telephone box, I'm pretty sure this was listed, does anyone know if it will be replaced and how?

You can also try Foyles on Charing Cross Road, they have taken over the language specialists Grant and Cutler and have all the french language books you could ever need.

This thread is really interesting, I always wondered what preceded Austin Court, does anyone have pictures of it before it was demolished. I would like to join the Peckham Society but it seems you can only pay membership by cheque, and I haven't had a chequebook for donkeys! Slightly off the topic but I don't know if anyone knows the story behind the burnt out blue house/shop next to the Co-op building, what was that and why is it a wreck?

There is still a footpath through there between the flats and the park. I don't know if it is still called Snake's Lane though.

Peckham Rye Park - a question from 1902

I think there were some houses in the area where the oval flowerbed is now, and I think they were demolished in the 30s. Could it be these? -
It was end of term for the young ladies at Harris Girls Academy.

I'm looking forward to the reopening, I've never been inside and always wondered what its like. It's pretty much my local (that or the Rye)
