  1. My daughter was allocated St Savoir St. Olaf at New Kent Road. Not the worse school but not thrilled either . We really wanted Harris ED as they came across as so pastoral, especially for children who have may SPLD's. Does anyone have any experience of St. Saviours?
  2. I see this post is from September, but also found Harris Girls ED impressive! We visited a few weeks ago. I was not expecting to like Harris ED so much but my daughter, my mother (who is visiting from the USA) and me all agreed Harris ED was tops. We also visited Kingsdale and found the Head's talk far too long, people were actually walking out before it was over (they showed a video of him speaking. We visited Grey Coats today and it its lovely...very academic but could be good for the right girl.
  3. I have a daughter in year 6 and we are also doing the secondary school visit circuit. My daughter attends Lyndhurst and at the year 6 parents meeting, the deputy headteacher said parents routinely have very positive things to say about Deptford Green. We visited with my daughter last week and the school is not located in the best area (in my opinion), but the teachers and students did come across as enthusiastic and energetic. Informally I am hearing (even from teachers at other schools we have visited) is that HABS is very academic and a bit an of exam factory)..but of course that is subjective and the school is a good fit for some students. Have you looked at Kingsdale?
  4. Can anyone recommend a math tutor for a 10 year old? My daughter will be going into year 6 in September. She has been diagnosed with dysgraphia and has symptoms of dyscalculia. I am interested in someone who is caring, empathic and has specific experiences in working with children with SEN/learning differences. My daughter is pleasant, attentive, can focus and enjoys learning through multi-sensory play. Any ideas please let me know.
  5. My 9 year old daughter may be transferring to Lyndhurst Primary in late May/early June. I'm interested to hear from parents with kids in Y4 and also Y5 in terms of how you like the school? I know Lyndhurst is generally well regarded but I am looking for specific experiences from parents in these 2 year groups. Feel free to PM.
  6. Any further updates on the Turtle Bay carribean restaurant supposedly coming to Rye Lane??
  7. I have heard great things about PGL but I don't know anyone personally who has sent their children. I am thinking of sending my 9 year daughter for the first time. Looking at this thread with interest to see if others have recent experience. I know they have mini taster holidays for those who don't want to commit to a whole week and also holiday weeks for just for 1st timers.
  8. Not sure where you are located, but I have just recently enrolled my 8 year old daughter in football coaching at Greenhouse Football club which practice at Burgess Park on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Walworth. The coaches are really friendly and supportive and my daughter loves it. PM me if you want more info.
  9. Peckham Park Baptist Church also fits what you are looking for. It's a smaller community church and very lively, welcoming, warm and friendly. Pastor Ann is progressive, open minded and dynamic. Christmas dinner will be held on the 17th of December. http://pprbc.co.uk
  10. Is anyone aware of a girls football practice that meets on week-ends? My daughter has no football experience, but is really interested in learning. I'm looking for a nice supportive team, without too much pressure. Open to travelling to Peckham, East Dulwich, Camberwell or Walworth. Any ideas appreciated.
  11. My 7 year old is having a tough time in maths and we would like her to receive some extra help over the summer. We have considered a private tutor, but wanted to check if anyone is familiar with a summer school in Southwark where the children can work on math, English and also have some fun over the summer term?
  12. Mrs TP, Yes, this is the other question we are debating.. whether to send her alone to the "first timer" mini-session (3 days/2 nights)? The thing is she is an only child and has no cousins here...she has friends at school but other parents don't seem interested..I really prefer if she had a friend with her, but when I spoke to PGL they said they have fair number of kids coming entirely on their own. She is very out-going socially and I would hate for her to miss out on the experience soley because we can't find someone for her to go with...
  13. Thanks very much...We have never heard of it before but it looks like it would be a great experience. womanofdulwich Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It was a long time ago but yes great. My son is 19 > he went when he was 7.
  14. We are thinking of sending our 7 year old girl to a PGL adventure camp. The website looks very good and it says they have been in existence for over 50 years. I think my daughter would love all of the outdoor activity and making new friends. They have short 2-3 day "first timer" sessions for kids who have never been. Has anyone sent their child on a PGL trip and what were your thoughts? http://www.pgl.co.uk/
  15. It may be a little far, however I can recommend Burrell Street Sexual health clinic at Blackfriars Bridge (the 63 stops at Southwark station and is only a few min. walk). I had a very positive experience, very nice clean modern office with free WIFI while you wait. Very patient and understanding staff. The doctor who saw me was excellent. Contraception clinic is on Tuesday on a walk-in basis. If you arrive early, you will be one of the first to be seen.
  16. Try Colegrove Road Dental in SE15. 7 minute walk from Peckham library or you can take the 363 or 63 a few stops up and get off at Bird and Bush road. The office is on the corner. My daughter and I have been seeing the female dentist Sarah for a few years now. She is brilliant with kids and my daughter loves her. She gives her stickers and lets her sit in the chair with her stuffed animal. The office is very clean and well run. Best of luck.
  17. I had a positive experience with Andy last week. He came to assemble some flat pack items, fix some shelves and replace the sealant around our sink. He was very professional and trustworthy. We gave him the keys and he did the job over 2 days. Excellent work and I would not hestiate to recommend him to anyone!
