  1. Similar thing happened on Hindmans Rd last May. Worth looking at that thread.
  2. 3 Italian made Micron M2201 wall lights. Approx 250 high,180 deep,300 wide. Good working order. Just need bulbs. ?10
  3. 2012 ??Sorry to disagree fazer71 but we have lived in East Dulwich since the mid eighties and had dogs since early ninties which meant a morning, lunchtime and early evening walk on Peckham Rye every day. Planes were coming in to Heathrow on average about one every 1 - 2 minutes. In fact on the evening walks when it was dusk you could see them queueing up from all angles with the landing lights on. A fascinating sight - I once counted 11 waiting to go in to the airport. Noise - modern planes are much quieter than they used to be . Concorde was always noisy but easy to forgive as it was such a beautiful sight. We have never been bothered by the noise. As I have said before - take a day trip to West London and listen to planes taking off over Windsor, Slough etc. People living to the West of the airport have a much worse time of it.
  4. Dulwich Fox: It's hard to understand what point you're making. Apart from the tasteless misquoting of the famous Niemoller reference to the Nazis and Jews, it's irrelevant. I don't remember another incident of yellow lines appearing overnight in a residential street with no reason and no warning, that we were supposed to protest about.
  5. Thanks Renata. I've spoken to various people at Southwark and they're supposed to be ringing back - nothing so far so I hope you can find something out.
  6. Just re read this and realised that this was work carried out at the other end of Hindmans Road and doesn't apply to the present situation. Waiting for replies from James Barber and from Southwark Council.
  7. Does anyone know why double yellow lines have been painted on both sides of part of Hindmans Road? We woke up this morning to find them, having had just a day's notice to move our cars. Why is there no information given to residents beforehand? Or consultation?
  8. Whitten Timber in Peckham has a good selection
  9. Hello. Would you let me know how much you charge for lining Roman blinds - they're made up but the linings have gone and been removed. I've got the material and the rods etc. Also, how much for lining full length curtains. Thank you - Meryl
  10. Try Whitten Timber in Peckham. There should be something very similar, probably in MDF.
  11. Re The post from James Barber about the small post office near the library. There is often a queue and usually only one window open and they do close at lunchtime. They will only take three parcels at one time. However the people behind the counter are always helpful.
  12. Apparently the Post Office want to close this branch and place a counter in another shop similar to the arrangement in Forest Hill. I have noticed that often the queues are shorter than they used to be but it can still get busy. We have always had good service at this branch. It would be interesting to hear of people's experiences with the Forest Hill service.
  13. Just found a Small Magpie Moth on our curtains - it is now sitting in our window box and yesterday found a butterfly similar to a Gatekeeper also on the curtains.
  14. Some years ago a friend of ours moved to a house off Askew Rd in Acton. The young man living next door played music very loudly all day. Even his mum couldn't get him to turn it down, so after only a day of this noise my friend decided either the music stopped or he had to move his family out. He, with the agreement of the music player, bought a very good studio quality set of headphones. Expensive but effective - no more 'boom de boom yeah yeah' all day long. Might be worth it in this case?
  15. Take care with sanding oak - the dust is hazardous. Unlike ordinary softwood saw dust. I have been working with MDF for years and that has it's own problems but I try to avoid sanding oak especially large areas.
  16. We liked it there but not too often as all the dishes tended to taste the same. It seemed maybe a bit too 'authentic'. The Bel Phoori Houses in Drummond Street, behind Euston Station, which serve south Indian dosa etc are always packed - the food is delicious and it seemed as though Indian Mischief was going to be the same, but it wasn't quite. Very sorry it's shut - we need a South Indian vegetarian restaurant to complement all the others.
  17. We have friends who live in France and in their local Leclec supermarket there is a sign above the disabled parking bays which translates as 'Take my space - take my disability'. This seems to work.

    Shale gas

Worth looking at a film called Gasland by Josh Fox. It's about fracking in the States.
  19. You could try Whitten Timber in Peckham - the best timber yard by far in this area. Take a piece in with you if you have one. They can also run off mouldings for you to pattern. Not cheap but worth it if you have a lot to replace. Travis Perkins in Vauxhall might help. The old timber yard off Barry Rd. was good for old mouldings - sadly now gone.
  20. We've retuned but it hasn't helped. Looking online, problems with 4G describe exactly the faults we're having and as they've started since the launch there does seem a connection. I'll try to contact 4G.
  21. We have Freeview which gave a perfect picture until recently when the interference makes it imposible to watch a programme through. As it's only just happened I assume it's the effect of 4G. Is anyone else having problems and how can I get this sorted out without paying a fortune when I don't have, and don't want a 4G mobile phone?
  22. If you have T hinges on shed doors, which is quite usual, then the heads are exposed. I have just popped out and changed the screws on my shed to security screws. Unless the culprits go equipped with a selection of heads this should slow them up. You could also use clutch headed screws which only screw in and are virtually impossible to unscrew. Although as a chippie I know a way of getting them out but I am not telling.
  23. OK . Over Barry Rd area we have swifts. You have House Martins.
  24. Dawn 22. If you go on to the RSPB site and chose bird identifier and listen to the House Martin & then the Swift, you'll see why I think they are Swifts. Cheers
