  1. Hi, I wondered if anyone had a recommendation for a builder / plasterer to block up a chimney for us. 1930's house - 1st floor bedroom. I expect we need to cap the chimney and plaster the wall. We're in East Dulwich just off Forest Hill Road, Thanks Becky
  2. Evening All, Just wanted to post a recommendation for My decorator, Darren. I have recommended him on here before but he recently completed 2 bedrooms for us and did an amazing job. He's reasonably priced, tidy and polite. If you'd like to see pictures of his work (or even pop round) then please send me a PM. We've just moved which is why we've had such a lot of painting done recently. Anyway give him a call - 07879 233900 or email [email protected] Becky
  3. Hi Adam, How is the room ventilated? Do you have windows you can open? Is there central heating, is the room in a basement or a loft? Does the room border a bathroom? Lots of factors effect condensation but if the room is above ground, central heated and well ventalated then it's less likely to be condensation. A dehumidifier is really only needed if you can't ventalate. My experience is as the owner of a damp basement room with ensuite. We had a combination of damp through walls and condensation though mainly condensation. The best thing we did was to get a brilliant fan installed. Windows would have been better but not an option in a basement :( Becky
  4. Hi everyone - thank you so much for your responses. I called Clarkes this morning when the incuident happened and the guy I spoke to tried to imply I was mistaken about it being a Clarkes coach and told me to speak to the police, which I did but I actually have to go in person within 24 hours... anyway. Having read your posts I called back and spoke to a much more helpful lady who said their insurance person doesn't work today but I can call them about it tomorrow, so feeling more hopeful. I'll let you know the outcome!
  5. ... but as the coach continued along the bus lane on lordship lane and I was stuck in stationary traffic, it looks like I took the number plate down wrong. They've ripped off my wing mirror but no one hurt. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do - if the number plate was wrong, but I reckon it's pretty close then I guess I'll just have to pay for this myself as my insurance excess is high enough that it won't be woth claiming. I'm just a bit shaken and can't belive that it's fine for a huge coach to plough through a tiny car with no conseqences :(
  6. Hi Guys, This is brilliant - thank you. Huggers - who was your builder as I need to do exactly the same thing with a gas fire!
  7. Hi, I'm looking to get a woodburning stove installed. Ideally one I can conncect to the central heating. We don't have central heating yet. In a perfect world, there would be someone who can help me out with the whole lot - building work to make the hearth big enough for the stove, sorting the chimney out, installing stove and the boiler and hooking it all up together. On the assumption that's all a bit much to ask for (from what I can work out from google it is). Can anyone who has a woodburing stove let me know where they got it or recommend anyone that can help?? Many Thanks Becky
  8. Hi, PLease add me to the list of Niko fans. Again came round at very short notice to fix a problem left by another local handyman (PM me if you would like to know which one). Fantastic guy, reasonable and did a great job. Can't ask for any more really! Becky
  9. I would recommend Sternhall Lane surgury too. Nurse their has always been lovely and made me feel at ease. Doctors great too though my current female doc is on maternity leave. Closer to bellenden than a lot of the others. Becky
  10. Hi, having needed some decorating done myself a few weeks ago, I came here looking for advice. Martin Chandler did seems to have the most recomendations from a number of people. I gave him a call and he was not available until August :( anyway having asked him what he thought I should do, his advice was to go for an independent person rather than a company as they will take more pride in their work and having had a look around I found Darren. He's not on the ED forum and has a yell listing with recomendations (including mine as he finished painiting my flat on Friday). It looks brilliant, the job is really professional, he was clean, tidy and reliable. Reasonably priced too. If you want pictures them PM me as I know it's hard to tell with these recomendations sometimes, Darrens contact details are on his yell [http://www.yell.com/b/Darrens+Decorating+Service-Painters+and+Decorators-london-SE62BT-901378269/] site or call him on 07879 233900. Happy decorating! Becky x
  11. Hello. I live on the corner of this junction and while the works themselves have not had any real negative effect on us the temporary pedestrian crossing is becoming a little annoying. Specifically the loud beeping to signal it's safe to cross. We can hear it in our flat at all hours of the day and night as it's quite piercing. Are the new audible improvements going to be just as loud?
  12. Hi Everyone, Just thought I'd add a personal recommendation to this thread. About a year ago I joined McCabe's Saturday morning groups on the Rye. Brilliant fun and great if you want to be easied back into fitness (except the squats, they're just plain evil) anyway for 1 reason or another my motivation dwindled and I found excuses to snooze on a Saturday instead. So when I heard that McCabe was going to do some personal training sessions, I thought this is the kick I need. For me it really helped that it was someone I knew. I'm only 2 sessions in (3rd one tomorrow at 6:30 eek) but I ache in places I didn't even know I had. I do spend most of my sessions unable to do my situps as I'm laughing. Ok enough plugging, if you fancy getting fitter but lack the motivation to get out of your nice comfy bed then I would recommend giving this a go. Now I must get off to bed. Early start in the morning! Feel free to PM if you want more info from me. Becky xx
  13. Lush Mummy - this looked great until I read dry clean only? Really? Breast feeding in a dry clean only dress. Brilliant!
  14. Hi Guys, Just wanted to say thanks for making my first session so enjoyable! I'm quite achy today, so very pleased we didn't do the infamous deep squats! See you all next week. Becky x
  15. Hi, Appreciate this is an old post but this block now has new double glazing. Any update? Is this still going to be a nursery?
