  1. BBCs 1 & 2 are his Regan and Goneril, Now he's no longer KING (Doing Newsnight) they'll regret allowing him and his entourage to stay at their houses carousing (presenting University Challenge and documentaries on The Victorians) and will restrict his servants and entourage (researchers and make-up artists) so he will leave in a fit of pique and end up on the Blasted Heath (Sky) howling at the wind (presenting "Edwardians Unveiled" on Sky Arts 2).

  4. I suppose the favourites will win through as they always do but - heart ruling head - my QFs would be: Chile v Columbia Nigeria v Algeria Mexico v Costa Rica Argentina v USA
  5. Still Suarez? The phrase 'like a dog with a bone' comes to mind. I am suspecting more chicanery than the dubious 'flap' to Ronaldo by the Ghana Goalie, I mean I get that some are outraged but beginning to wonder whether they had a bet on that Suarez WOULDN'T bite somone in Brazil and are fuming.
  6. Oh, and well done the Septics.
  7. The ban on all football related activity means he can't train with Liverpool until late October either - I think FIFA might have included a 'get counselling' clause that could lift the ban earlier because now he has no incentive to sort out that part of him which is clearly a bit bonkers Still expect Uruguay to appeal to FIFA and if unsuccessful, to the CAS and to try and get a stay-of-execution before a hearing n Switzerland.
  8. Phil Neville is melting.
  9. Uruguay confirmed they are to appeal. Does 'ban on all football related activity' mean he can't even play FIFA14 on his PS3? Harsh.
  10. I know we've moved on but in light of the non-decision from FIFA (no way!?) I suspect a further delay then an appeal by the Uruguayans that will mean Suarez can play until Uruguay are knocked out then a small ban (meaning he'll miss a few unimportant games) and poor Luis saying he needs a multi-multi-million pound transfer as the incident has meant he will be persecuted in England. Job done.

Play him wide on the left to float balls in for Carroll. B) The biting, red card and Balotelli high-hurdles apart the whole game was an illustration of the nastier cynical side of football that some people have been suggesting England need to adopt more. Italy and Uruguay, when not committing sneaky little fouls, were falling to the ground in operatic displays of agony. Even before Suarez it was a shitty game.

So was Glenn Roeder StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- it's > clearly not just "the england manager" that's the > problem is it? Not 'just' no, but it's a big part of it. Successful club managers in this country have worked out how to be in control but also how to bring out the best in the players under them. The problem always seems to be that the players are scared, uncertain, too timid or too rash; that they are sometimes like rabbits-in-headlights and seem to lose concentration and focus as though in a daze whatever system they play - that they are just not at ease in the England shirt. The next manager (cause it isn't Hodgson) needs to be able to solve this. david_carnell Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >....or just accept we are a > second/third rate team. I think this would be a positive step if the press and FA would grasp the fact of it. Accept that the success of the PL is built largely on foreign players and ban all players and staff from giving interviews where they say England have a 'good chance' of winning ANYthing. Make them say they don't expect to win but they'll give it a shot - a good dose of committed pessimism might be just the job.
  14. Whilst we're on the S.A.S - is it really the agreed view that Sturridge had as good a game as tv seems to think? Really? Because from my sofa a banjo and a cow's arse sprang to mind.

Because headline writers can enjoy demonising the man who knocked England out and now it's all that's being talked about - I bet England are glad it happened. > Nor do I understand > the comparing what pundits have done in the past > to his behaviour. Because their inclusion on tv as respected pundits shows that things that are deemed unforgiveable now will BE forgiven in the future. A 6 match international ban and a fine and possibly some counselling and let's move on.

  17. I agree with Otta on this one. He's obviously a bit nutso and should be banned but I think spitting at another player is worse and there have been pundits on our screens who are no strangers to that charming habit (giving and receiving). He didn't break the skin so it's no more painful than those through-the-shirt-nipple-tweaks we've seen players give opponents when they "help them to their feet" - it is just bizarre and dumb and pointless and a bit feral. Still - anything to distract folk from the woeful showing of England again - good job Costa Rice were taking it easy.
  18. Nooooo! Unbelievable - 2 balls to go. Was astonished to tune in this afternoon and hear it still going - what a fight back (but still a failure) - sounds like Anderson's devastated - just when you think they are actually going to pull of the great escape. Gaaah!
  19. No journos came forward to testify against her like they did Coulson - all hearsay really even though most probably true. Now the judge has directed the jury to use majority vote Coulson could also be done for misconduct in public office and the police who sold stories got a couple of years for that so it's all adding up.
  20. All that false hope and Channel 4 knew how to fix matches all along and didn't let on until it was too late - dashed unpatriotic! Is this what Rooney was getting at when he said England needed to be more cynical?

I think Einstein said it best - "Making Lampard Captain in Gerrard's place is the definition of insanity..." But it's okay - after listening to his (Hodgson's) bleating about the hurt he felt and how raw Gerrard was and hoping senior players would 'help the young along' in the future I'm sure Lampard and Stevie will entertain us at international level for some time yet if he has his way. hurrah - roll on the Euros.
  23. I hope the story that Lampard is to captain England for the Costa Rica game is a joke.
  24. aquarius moon Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What are everybody else's predictions for final > based on games so far? Before tournament I thought Argentina & Brazil faves but quite fancied Chile as an outside bet - haven't changed my mind on Chile but don't think the other two are that special. Maybe Chile to win group and eventually meet Costa Rica in QF with Dutch putting out Brazil.
  25. Was up and running last week.
