  1. I went with Plusroom for a side extension and didn't regret it. Unlike with other work I have had done (a loft), they stuck to the quoted price and any extras (halfway through I decided to do a concrete subfloor) were done as per pre agreed prices. Maybe I paid more, but for me at least it was worth it. These guys know what they are doing and the builders they use are keen for repeat business so incentivised to do a good job. Just my two pence.
  2. We just had Dulwich Design Kitchen do our new kitchen. We were very pleased with it. Ruta knows her stuff and had plenty of ideas, but - just as important - she was very open to hear our ideas and incorporate them. We always felt she was very keen to get our input. The installation went like clockwork. I thought it a big plus that the installer was Ruta?s husband; we knew the quality control would be there! Happy to answer any questions
  3. I just had a side extension done and would definitely recommend them. Sure, there were a couple stressful moments, namely when the finishing process dragged on. But they are a properly professional outfit and aced all the big tests: dealing with the planning process, getting the build done on time and to a high quality, not hitting me with unexpected charges. The finishing did get done and the quality was excellent. Plusrooms has decided to offer to offer a project management service for the finishing team for future jobs; something to consider as it could be a nice to have. All in all, when I hear of others? build experiences (and when I think of my loft building experience), I am glad I went with them. For the kitchen, we used Dulwich Design Kitchens and were very pleased with both the design and the installation. We also liked Lordship Lane Flooring (tip: go with engineered wood). Feel free to message me if you want.
  4. I would highly recommend Inter-house.co.uk. They did a door for us a few years ago, which was cheaper and better quality than the door we had done by another company. Just recently, they did the windows in bedroom. They were the cheapest quote but the quality was excellent. Moreover, they were willing to remove the plantation shutters and put them back again, which was quite a fiddly job (the shutters company struggled when they put them in initially due to the dimensions and the fact that the house has tilted over the years). The finish was excellent, the fitters were on time and very clean. Highly recommended to give them a try. I went with Pilkington laminated glass with one pane at 4mm and the other 6.4mm (apparently different thicknesses help with sound insulation), with the latter coated with a special laminate. Helps with the sound (though not quite as much as I thought with sound from passing cars; I suppose that comes in through the walls) and really helps with keeping the heat in.
  5. Be aware that there seems to be a spate of bike thefts and muggings in and around the Village and Dulwich College. I know of three thefts and one mugging for a bike in the last month or so. My kids have seen dodgy types scouting out potential targets in the Village (and elsewhere?). I encourage people to report thefts so at least the police are aware,
  6. You can report graffiti online to Southwark Council and they will remove it if on public property or on your own property and facing the street. The service is quite good. Just go online and report it (can be done anonymously). Just google Southwark Council and Graffiti.
  7. For anyone looking for a tiler to renovate a bathroom, I used Dominic Sadlo and was very pleased. He did a complete redo of our bathroom (underfloor heating, new lights, new ceiling, shower, tiles, etc.) and the quality and price were excellent. He was also quite reliable. He said he would come on a certain day and take 8 days to finish it, and that's exactly what he did (without leaving the last 5% unfinished, which every tradesman seems to do!) He and his partner also kept the dust and dirt to a minimum, something my hyper-clean wife appreciated. We also got the electrical certificates for the wiring, something this hyper-safety conscious husband appreciated. Dominic also does general building work; I think he is working on a side extension at the moment, for example. His number is 07884 056228. You can reference the Beauval Road bathroom job he did.
  8. perhaps, but that still doesn't change the fact that there have not been any serious accidents at all. I am sure there are some rude drivers, but I have encountered some rude cyclists who do not stick to the rules of the road, especially at that junction,
  9. I am coming late to this thread, but just want add in yet another voice: As a pedestrian who uses that junction nearly every day, I am all for improving it. But removing the right hand turn is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I don't need any fancy studies (which are usually commissioned with an eye to confirming the commissioners' preconceived notions; he who pays the fiddler, calls the tune and all that). That smacks to me of typical special interest politics.Village Ward elections may be 3 years away, but I, for one, won't forget this.
  10. I've used Bridge Removals for 3 moves and found them to be very good and reasonably well priced. A nice family firm
  11. I used Dave Bennett at DB Pest Management and found him quite professional and reasonably priced.
  12. I had John Power do a safety check on my boiler. I was best pleased. He came on time and was very professional. He didn't try to sell me unnecessary products or services and gave me some great advice on dealing with my recalcitrant underfloor heating system. Rare for a specialist of any type, he was willing and able to explain everything to a layman like myself. I would use him again. Feel free to PM me.
