  1. We recently had to pick a dentist for our son too. And went to see Philip Norton in Denmark Hill/Red Post Hill. His bedside manners are impeccable and really put our son at ease. Our son fell asleep while being examined and he doesn't even fall asleep in his own bed. The clinic feels more like a living room with a dentist's chair rather than a clinic. So all in all a very good first experience for a toddler. But for our son's less-than-straightforward set of teeth, we opted for Half Moon Lane as they have a pediatrics specialist and orthodontist on their team. I figured it would be easier to go there to get second/third opinions when we need it. The clinic is painted in very vibrant colors so very kid-friendly. Also heard good things about the dental clinic in West Dulwich. Hope that helps!
  2. With kids in tow, I would avoid Vegas. They won't be old enough to enjoy the arcades anyway. SF weather is variable, so no guarantees that it'll be sunny and warm. But lots of interesting things to see/do and good food to be had! What about San Diego? There's a direct flight operated by BA from LHR to SAN. It's pretty kid friendly. The zoo is fabulous. Lots of beautiful sandy beaches between Carlsbad and La Jolla. And Coronado too.
  3. Hello forum, Is anyone's child going to be starting kindergarten at Herne Hill School this coming September? We'll be transitioning our son out of our nannyshare into kindergarten in a few months, so thought I would help the transition by introducing him to new friends over the summer. We live near Sydenham Hill station and the woods this time of year is lovely, but happy to meet at Dulwich Park, Horniman Museum or Brockwell Park too. Get in touch if you have a little one who'd like a new playmate before school starts.
  4. When our son was that age, we'd just put him in a sling and hop onto the Bromptons. Then both our Bromptons were stolen and after grieving for a year, we finally bought new ones. By then our boy was 2 and we put him in the IT chair. You're welcome to come try out ours for size if you'd like.
  5. They have yoga for kids at The Shala in West Norwood. It's Thursday after 4pm, I think. The adult classes are quite good if you like ashtanga style.
  6. What about slip-on/off or zip-on/off Doc Marten boots? The patent leather ones are easy to maintain.
  7. There are rooms available to rent at Chumleigh Gardens inside Burgess Park. They're run by the First Place nursery folks next door and sometimes the nursery area is available for rent too. Good luck.
  8. We rather like the Dulwich Woodhouse as a family friendly pub. Great outdoor area and they have a collection of toys and games for the little ones to play with. Food is nothing to write home about, so we go for the space and ample parking.
  9. Thank you for the replies! They're just what I was looking for.
  10. Hello wise forum members, Our son is about to be paid for his modelling job and I should probably go open a bank account for him. So are there any recommended local banks that cater to kids? Also, what kind of account should I open? A regular savings account? A junior ISA? A stock market index fund? Thanks in advance!
  11. The best ones I've found are made by Ziplock and the quart size ones. I buy them bulk from Costco. How many do you need, I can give you some.
  12. Our homeopath suggested calendula cream when there's a flare-up...we used Weleda calendula nappy cream. And normally, we wash with Dr. Bronner's and moisturise with shea butter, seems to be doing the trick at the moment.
  13. I think I've seen them at the Fourways in Herne Hill, but maybe call them to check? Otherwise, you can always get them from Ocado.
  14. We have a few Lego storage boxes that are pretty good for storing small cars, but not great for storing big bulky items. There are lots of colours to choose from if you look on the aplaceforeverything website. Wanted to add that Made.com has some interesting storage pieces. There used to be a set of metal trunks that would be for storing toy cars.
  15. We went to The Grove for 4 days last year. Seeing that we don't own a car, it was handy to just take a cab there. There's an on-site cr?che, library, swimming pool, golf course, and spa. There are 3 different restaurants and the kids eat free at the buffet. We had a lovely time and would definitely go again. Here's the website address: thegrove.co.uk
  16. What about the Everyman on Baker Street? The seats there are really nice with lots of leg room to adjust yourself until you're comfortable. I wonder if every Everyman is the same? What about bringing along some pillows?
  17. We booked one of the rooms at Chumleigh Gardens in Burgess Park last August. We had planned for the party to be outside, but it rained all day that day, so it was lucky that we at least had shelter. Let me know if you'd like more info.
  18. Second the Anthropologie recommendation. Their stuff makes me feel very feminine, but not too trendy. Why not support a more local shop, like Bias on Bellenden Rd? The owner tries to stock Anthro-like pieces, but with a more fair-trade/made in the UK emphasis.
  19. If you're not limited by visas, why not try both US & Oz while the kids are still young? We only have the option of the US and even then we would still probably end up in San Diego. Good luck with your decision and have a great adventure!
  20. Just wanted to add that you can also carry the baby in a sling in a black cab.
  21. I had RLS towards the end of my pregnancy, found that having a banana during the day and a small glass of tonic water in the evening really helpful. It was recommended to me by my friend's midwife in the US.
  22. When flying BA, we brought our own milk. And when asked if we could store it in their fridge, they just provided us with some ice to keep the milk cold. If you're bringing pre-made formula, perhaps you could call Boots and order in advance, then pick up from the other side of security. Otherwise, security will make you open half your supply of formula.
  23. I'm not sure if they do custom cakes, but I know you can definitely get individual cakes from WAGfree in Brixton for the guests who can't have gluten. As a gluten-free baker myself, I find their Victoria sponge amazing, as you wouldn't even know it was gluten-free!
