Hi, has anyone used local restaurants or caterers to provide food for a party? Having one in a few week’s time and considering not doing all cooking myself!

Secondary school timetable for sport trainingBumpkin replied to alice.caucacau@gmail's topic in The Family Room Discussion Kingsdale do sports scholarships & I believe are sympathetic to time off for training, however, as above, I really wouldn’t start worrying about secondary for at least another couple of years.

We had a bit of excitement in the garden last week when what at first I thought was a large thrush, came out of our hedge, caught a sparrow & took off with it. Pretty certain it was a sparrow hawk. Still plenty of sparrows.

Post not being delivered by Royal MailBumpkin replied to gazzam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip Our record delay was a Christmas card posted by an elderly relative a couple of weeks before Christmas that turned up in August..

One Tree Hill Swings torn asunderBumpkin replied to JusticeForOneTreeHillSwings's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip Fear not, they will doubtless return soon in another guise. These provided much fun for myself & 12 year old during lockdown & were mysteriously changed on a fairly regular basis over the months. We stopped going after a ‘see how high I can go mum!’ resulted in a badly broken wrist (now absolutely fine). But I still have happy memories although the boy now avoids the hill.

Hi - we've got a good quality kingsize duvet that's slightly too hot for me therefore hardly used and seems a shame just to take to the tip. Does anyone know of any shelters etc that might want a kingsize duvet?..

Hi, does anyone know of a running club or athletics club locally that would welcome a relatively fit 13 year old boy who's not in any sort of regular training and not likely to be star material, but would like to keep fit sociably? He's hit 13 and due to Covid and age doing no sports or any other clubs any longer and doesn't have friends that want to join him as they either play football (he doesn't enjoy playing) or don't want to do active things. It's a tough age to start a new sport if you're not already good at it, but he likes running. Any ideas welcome thanks.

Hi - not sure if anyone's got any experience of this, but we live in a Victorian conversion flat that serves a front drain with rainwater pipes and a kitchen waste pipe from two upper flats. Our front garden has been slowly dying over the last few years with a number of different species of very established, large hedges now completely dead and I'm concerned that we have a drainage problem. A couple of workmen recently said they thought that the front drain was a soakaway, which shouldn't have the kitchen drainage going into it. Does anyone know how we can fully establish that we have a soakaway and how best to resolve this? Thanks

We live on East Dulwich Road and the first thing we did when we moved in was to install secondary glazing acoustic glass, best thing we did - massively cuts down on the noise. I can't comment on price as it was over 12 years ago so won't be at all realistic.

Is there any point petitioning TFL on this? My son gets the bus back from school when he has a club and has regularly been waiting in the rain for 25 mins - now in the dark.

There was a previous thread on this, ours was taken from ED Rd in August. Kwik fit said v common round here. 3 done in a day at Sainsbury?s car park according to them.

We were told a couple of years ago that it was so that you didn't forget after half term as has been known to happen.. No other reason.

Catalytic converter thefts - heads up (September 2019)Bumpkin replied to Penguin68's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip We had one stolen from our Toyota Prius a couple of months ago, was v expensive to replace as Penguin says. Only good thing was that Kwik Fit were fantastic at sorting it, had a new one in within the day. They said Sainsbury's car park had 3 cards affected in one day alone (that they knew of!). It's a regular trade for them now apparently. The Sainsbury's cars were all the same make but not Toyota (can't remember now), so it's not just Prius'.

Has anyone replaced kitchen cabinet doors & worktops?Bumpkin replied to Bumpkin's topic in The Family Room Discussion Thanks, that's a kind offer, but they are very old and battered and really need replacing. Not sure how easy to fit myself..

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?Bumpkin replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip Does anyone know how to request a replacement brown bin as I've paid my ?25 but our bin lid has one broken hinge and I'd rather get a replacement before putting the sticker on. I can't see an option for this now on the Southwark re-cycling page, can only request new blue / green bins or pay for the brown ones..

I sent my 11 yr old to find some hand soap on Sunday whilst in Sainsbury?s as first time there since refurb and he came back to say the only one he could find was ?16.. (we did not buy, I eventually found the old toothpaste section).

Parking ticket for parking across a dropped kerbBumpkin replied to edanna's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip Is there any way of requesting the removal of a dropped kerb? (I imagine there is no budget for this..). At the bottom of Worlingham Rd there is an old one that used to be next to gates but they have now been replaced with a brick wall (same one Lynne?) and has been marked for yellow lines. It?s within a few meters of a pedestrian dropped kerb so no need for it at all and would have a big impact on my usual parking spots if enforced.

My son?s primary school has dropped all language lessons in year 5 & 6 to concentrate on Sats.. I?m keen to do an online / app based fun language course with him, prob Spanish, so that he goes to Secondary with at least some familiarity of a foreign language. Happy to pay for a good one. Does anyone have any recommendations?
