Tuesday 10th May 2011: Had a call from Mel, Deputising Team Leader for the job outside Locale. His comments: Its still an Emergency Job. The Gas Main is leaking. The Main is 2.5 metres deep. They had problems, with the water main bursting, this didnt help, the ground is very unstable. Safety issues, kids playground etc. He assured me that from today (Tuesday 10th May) there will be nobody working past 10pm. He was very clear on this point and re-iterated 3 or 4 times - no work past 10pm ("unless deterioration") If we need to call him he is on 0207 840 1079 - ask for either Mel or Tommy Smith Most nights theyll be done by 7pm but tonight it may be 9.30 ish. Again, he re-iterated that as long as it doesn't deteriorate the latest they will work till is 10 o clock. Mentioned to him the lads shouting jokes to each other at 3am and he said he will speak to the team and get them to tone it down. Also, work will not go on after 10pm at the very latest so this wont be an issue. The above details were taken today & it's now 10pm, tonight the ground crew are still working, with the same level of noise from machinery & loud/joky conversations! Yet with no work going on yesterday! Please help!!!! Thanks.
  2. Dear James, There have been road works on East Dulwich road since Easter Sunday, there initially appeared to be an emergency outside Locale (Italian restaurant) which required the pavement, then road to be dug up. Drilling started at 11pm & continued for about an hour. Over the past two weeks there has been ongoing late night drilling, humming machinery and on one occasion workmen shouting jokes to each other at approximately 2am. On Thursday 5th May, the gas work appeared to have ruptured a water pipe, resulting in another (different) machine humming loudly throughout the night to deal with the excess water. All of these events have impacted on my ability to sleep as I live in very close proximity. Is there anyway you could liaise with Southern Gas (the utility company responsible for the works) to ascertain the expected length of the works as it is becoming an issue? Thanks.

Hey George, Couldn't find any info on the website stating whether you would have seats available for those of us who aren't able (or can't be bothered ;) to bring picnic stuff with us. I think this is a great idea, I shall definitely be there (as long as the film will be Breakfast or Some like it Hot). I voted for Breakfast (although I own two copies of the film) because I would love to see Audrey on the big screen in all her glory at the beginning of the film in the Givenchy dress!!! Hey, here's an idea, why don't you scrap the postage charge & allow people to collect their tickets on the day as long as they have proof of sale?
  5. Chez Bruce is definitely on Wandsworth Common & I had to book six weeks in advance to secure a table for two on a Saturday evening! It's also SW London ..17 (I think) sorry to be a pedant :) If you want reasonably priced food in a venue that would suit a big group, what about Hisars.. barbeque food without the stress of cooking it yourself & afterwards there are the delights of the Lane... Black Cherry (for a champagne cocktail or the 'Zombie' of which you are only allowed two per person per night due to the high alcohol content!!!!) Liqorish (for a bit of a boogie) then home! There, that's your night sorted. Hope you have a great time whatever you end up doing :)-D
  6. Hi MM, I know there was a book group being held at the library on LL on the last thursday of the month, you can generally get the book being read in the library. That said, I went there with a view to getting the book (this was back in the summer) and they didn't have any copies left so I didn't bother going to the meeting two weeks later. After that, summer sort of got in the way and I haven't thought about it until now! If you go, would you post a comment about it, please? C :) ps you might think 'why doesn't she just go herself?' I'm studying at the moment and reading for pleasure has to be postponed until the new year :)
  7. Does anyone know what type of shop Sugar will be & when is it going to open?
  8. I've visited the boutique, which indeed has replaced Jerk Rock, yesterday, as I need a new winter coat. The two sales personnel were really friendly. The prices are boutique prices, so hey, expect to pay a bit more, probably similar to Liberty's! I didn't get a coat there but there is a lovely little swing jacket that caught my eye... very Audrey Hepburn ;-)
  9. I agree, there are plenty of shops on LL which have front of house staff that are friendly & knowledgable. I think the staff at Green and Blue are excellent; friendly without being over familiar, knowledgable without being pompous ( & Jude, one half of the dynamic duo that is Jude & Kate is great.... for a southerner :)-D ) the staff are also courteous without being sycophantic! Also, Daniel at Cheers is a breath of fresh air, he's good natured and helpful! Tom at Chener Books (although I think he's left now... does anyone know if he's still there?) was a great help when I left the book club I was in and wanted to branch out with my reading choices ;-)(ooh, that reminds me, are there any book clubs up and running on this website? I'm new to the forum!) So all in all, like anywhere else really, there are generally always going to be good and bad retail experiences and yep, sometimes it's down to the individual shopper! C :)
  10. I have to say I disagree with Quaywe about Seacow. When it first opened it was an amazing eaterie (although you would smell like the inside of a chip pan after dining there ;-) ) with great fresh seafood, alas, in the past year when I've been there for take outs the fish was either undercooked with greasy batter or dried out beyond all recognition of the light delicate cooking that first marked it out as an explemlary "chippie". The chips too were again either undercooked or bullet hard! So, I have to say (having been there only once) the chippie on northcross is a much better bet! Good sized portions, not great fish but palatable & better value for money! Hope this helps! C :)
