http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/paul-scholes-manchester-united-need-five-experienced-players-who-can-turn-round-a-desperate-situation-9681747.html "Let us be clear about one thing. I am sick of having to criticise the club to which I gave my life as a footballer. But this is a United team that lost seven league games at Old Trafford last season and began on Saturday by losing at home to Swansea. United need to arrest their decline. In those years under Sir Alex Ferguson, when trophy followed trophy, this sort of mediocrity was unthinkable. But it is happening." "It is not all Van Gaal?s fault. The problems have been there for a while. I suppose I should have realised that the very fact I was still playing for United at 38 years old was a sign that there was not enough pressure on us senior players from those coming into the side. It was the same last season with Ryan. At times last season he was the best player on the pitch, at the age of 40." Thoughts from United fans?
  3. "You probabaly never really did if you were honest with yourself." My lack of financial security / savings is my proof that I did. "You are at home with the kids, being a decent stand up father and working with your partner in bringing up the family and making ends meet. You do not hang around in pubs any longer." You've got me there. Not that I'm a hipster dad whatever that is.
  4. Better than saying "couldn't get it done up, huh?".

To be fair to him, he's a bit out there, but he hasn't bitten anyone.
  6. Indeed, uncanny how spot on he is having not met you.
  7. Are you calling DulwichFox a hipster?

Aanyway, Liverpool in for Balotelli. We do like a loon in our squad, but I hope it happens, he could be that signing we need to keep us in the top 4...

Wow, check out the hair do on David Wagstaffe's missus!
  10. Nah, Greyhound closed a few years back, stood empty for ages, and now they've built new flats all around it with a retail until at street level which has been empty since it was built. The shell of the pub is still there with no roof on it. No idea what the hell they're going to do with it. All seems like a monumental fuck up. Although not on the scale of the Heygate!
  11. Ooo, I'm a New affluent worker. Except I'm not very affluent.
  12. My mate (who has since moved away) used to take his paper to Franklins for a couple of Saturday lunchtime pints (this was during the death rattle of the CPT). I joined him a couple of times, but never really felt comfortable drinking in there. It very much feels like a bar where you have a quick drink whilst waiting to be seated for your meal.
  13. Not ringing a bell, so either he's not there when I'm there, or he doesn't like the cut of my jib. I really liked the Woodman and used that quite a bit. In it's last year they did a lovely Sunday roast for about ?7.50, and it was good quality. The fact it's an estate agent now is the ultimate insult.
  14. Think it's a new version. Fox's is great! If I want to watch football it's either a bus to Dulwich to meet Jah Lush at The Castle, or it's Fox's.
  15. What if your mum is a lawyer and your dad is a plumber?

I had a look at the sydders forum yesterday and see there are lenty of complaints about the night club near Cobb's Corner. During term time I was taking my daughter to school in Sydenham every day, so still felt part of the area, but now there's been no school for a few weeks I feel more disconnected. I do love Sydenham.

You think you do..." > > Because I was that parent for a while... I'm not so sure. In some ways it is much harder. Just getting out the bloody door becomes a huge challenge. But you're much more self assured and secure than with the first kid, where everything is new and a bit scary. But this is rather off topic.
  18. The French bakery on Kirkdale is great. And there are often "pop up" things going on in the shop accross the road next to George the barber. But I still can't see the "Kirkdale Village" thing taking off, and nor should it!
  19. StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "you need some time alone at home do you? 20. EXACTLY!!!!!! I've been saying that on here since 2007 and no one bloody listens! You can't lump everyone in to Working class / middle class it simply doesn't work. People might describe themself as working class, but that's about mind set not finances.
  21. Louisa I wasn't having a dig at you earlier, I was really commenting on SJ's plumber and office boy.
  22. But class isn't just about how much you earn. But middle/working class is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too simplistic as your example highlights.
  23. I just read on a sydenham forum that yoots are having races up and down Kirkdale in the middle of the night. Clearly not just an ED problem.
  24. It was on that thread about teenagers in the playground, when someone said they're there because it's a safe place for them. I suggested that they should grow a pair (or something similar) and broaden their horizons. I stand by my general point, but the use of that term did me no favours.
