Headteachers is probably the keyword there. I genuinely missed that graph, but it seemed to show that about 400 primary school teachers worked past 60 (with the peak of about 17000 being about 55. And about 2000 secondary teachers, with the peak being about 10000 again at 55. It is probably worth mentioning that there are a lot more female teachers than male, and if you looked at similar graphs for any profession, but divided them in to gender, there would be a big difference (until more recent years).

Where does that 7 year old study say that nearly all teachers retire at 60? (serious question, I am missing it). What it does seem to say, is that teachers relative pay is pretty crap, and their working hours are shite. But as I say, it's 7 years old, and most of the figures end at 1999, so not sure how relevent it is.
  3. I suspect most commuters couldn't do much about Tube staff conditions and pay. And I doubt most holiday makers could have a great deal of effect on cabin crew pay conditions. That is what striking is. I've never gone out on strike, but I would if I felt strongly enough. I'm sure a lot of the teachers would rather it not be necessary to make their point.

Huguenot accusing people of repositioning an argument to suit their stance... I don't have the words!

Well said Strafer! I've not met many who actually retire at 60, no. And I work in education with a load of teachers.
  6. MP Expences. Yeah yeah, naughty naughty. Couldn't quite believe the uproar, or that anyone was shocked by it.

Who are these public sector workers who are retiring at 60 with full pensions? I've never met them.
  8. Absolutely Strafer. I was over the moon on Sunday when Liverpool beat Chelsea, and I still curse when they drop points to the likes of Swansea. A few years ago though, it would ruin my week.
  9. Football. Compared to a few years ago, when I watched as much of it as I could. I just find I can't really be bothered with it all anymore. Still enjoy it to an extent, but don't try and tell me it actually matters in any way.

David spot on about the myths surrounding this. I've said before, Give new starters a new set of T&Cs, but don't move the goalposts on people who entered employment in good faith. And I say that as someone who works for a private sector company, within the public sector, so if I re-enter the public sector permanently, I accept my T&Cs may well be different to the ones I got in 2002, when I got my first public sector job.
  11. Agreed! Lots of singing teachers are bitter, failed divas. And the fact this one calls themself a singing master, suggests they are one of the above.
  12. A lot of houses in ED would fetch half a mil, and they are certainly not mansions.
  13. Joe was never going to make it in anything other than musical theatre IMO.
  14. Agree completely with Quids in the OP. I like to cook, and enjoy a good meal (although I also enjoy eating crap), But really I just eat because I need to eat. Sitting in a restaurant for ages whilst everyone enjoys 5 courses us my idea of hell.

Damn it, I think I missed a whole thread! Bugger!
  16. Good man, I wish I could send the little one in for my pint, and a box of matches.
  17. I agree with what you're saying Strafer, but equally agree that if little one is eating a balanced diet of solids, I wouldn't bother giving milk to drink. Milk with cereal is cool.
  18. Cheap keyboard. He can play notes and practice pitching them. You'll soon know if he is tone deaf or not. If someone is tone deaf, you can't really teach it.
  19. What makes ne laugh us how some people seem to support the workers going out on strike, until teachers do it, and it effects them, as their kid can't go to school that day. Guess what, the point of striking is to disrupt, and make a point if how valuable you actually are. Regarding teachers, I think the the higher teachers are paid too much, and the newer teachers are very underpaid for the work they are expected to do. Regarding pensions, as with any public sector job, I feel it us completely wrong to move the goalposts on people that have gone in to a job with an agreed set of T&Cs. Offer a new pension to new starters, but don't go changing existing deals, it is completely wrong!
  20. To be fair, that pesky S in (MASSIVE Liverpool fan) Annasfield's name could have thrown anyone ;-)

Great entertainment for the rest of us though. Proper car crash reading! EDF Equivalent of the Jeremy Kyle show. Except of course that admin isn't a nasty piece of work who doesn't deserve the oxygen he's breathing.
  22. As long as you see a GP when you need one, who cares if it's not the boss? They've all studied for a long time to qualify, I'm sure you'll be safe.
  23. Cool, will have to check this out. Shame it's not a slightly cheaper option than Clark's though, as I think kids shoes are way to expensive when you consider how long they'll last.
  24. Fair play, I just saw headline, very similar to one last year. Hadn't had time to read it. The big thing that Liverpool have suffered from for years now, is failing to win the matches that they're expected to win, so great results against top teams become insignificant. If Spurs can keep beating teams below them, they will be in a great position.
  25. I agree, it just made me laugh that's all. Part of me wants to see it, just out of twisted curiosity. I do think it will look really bad though.
