  1. From the Thames Water site. If you're unsure who is responsible for clearing a blocked drain or sewer, you may find the following information helpful. It may be the property owner's responsibility if: Only one property is experiencing problems The property doesn't share drainage with any other property There is no other flooding in the local area It may be our responsibility if we have public sewers in the area and at least one of the following applies: The problem is outside your property boundary More than one property is experiencing problems There is widespread sewer flooding in the area If you think there is a blockage or if your property has been flooded by our public sewer, please call us on 0845 9200 800 and one of our team will be here to help, 24 hours a day.
  2. Highly recommend Jon from Mains and Drains. Friendly, considerate, reasonable rates! 07771 586759
  3. I second the recommendation for Jon from Drains and Mains. He cleared a blocked drain for me this morning at a VERY reasonable price. Friendly and considerate to boot! Would have no hesitation in using again, but hope I don't have to in the near future!
  4. They carpeted our flat throughout and were superb! Great workmanship. Wouldn't hesitate to use them in future.
  5. Another thumbs up for Classic Lofts. They did a great job for us ... six weeks from start to finish with a very hard-working and considerate crew. This was the second loft conversion I'd commissioned. The first, when I lived a fee miles away, was with Econoloft, who were nowhere near as good as Classic!
  6. Si Mangia is the one restaurant in ED to which my partner and I return time and again, for midweek quick meals and special occasions and to which we introduce friends, who in turn become regulars... I think it holds its own against *any* restaurant in its price range.
  7. Went last night for a few! I thought the refurb might have been superficial, but it's been pretty radical. Good choice of beers and a great menu. Definitely not standard Youngs fare. Good sized crowd last night, as well, for a Monday! I'll definitely be back - often. Could displace The Rye as my favourite stopping off point on the way home from work.
  8. I eat at The Palmerston 3-4 times a year on special occasions and have never had a disappointing meal. It's not cheap, but I don't think the prices are unrealistic given the quality. What was the manager's reaction when you raised these complaints directly on the night?
  9. Very pleased to recommend Nick of Green Machines - based in Dunstans Road. Amongst other heavy duty garden refurbishments, he removed a dead tree from our garden and ground out the stump. He can be contacted on 07723 956 686.
  10. I would recommend local electrician Tim Hill ... 07958 234 534 ... He's done a few jobs for us lately and we couldn't have asked for better work at a more reasonable price.
  11. I've used Gary on a few occasions. Highly recommended. Punctual, courteous, VERT hard worker.
  12. civ911 ... very similar positive experience to ours! I would highly recommend this shop.
  13. If you're still looking, try Tim Hill, local electrician. I've used Tim a few times and couldn't have asked for better. 07958 234 534
  14. I would recommend local electrician Tim Hill ... 07958 234 534 ... He's done a few jobs for us lately and we couldn't have asked for better work at a more reasonable price.
  15. I would recommend giving Tim Hill a call ...07958 234 534. He's done a few jobs for us lately and we've been very pleased with the results. Local guy, and a true gent.
  16. We had our place completely carpeted by Lordship Lane Carpets. We found the service to be excellent, the price was reasonable, the standard of the carpet supplied was superb and the fitting was top-notch. Would definitely use again ... but can't see us needing to re-carpet in our lifetimes!
  17. Another recommendation for Tim. Came to do another job for us today - removing a lighting pendant, making safe, etc and installing a double socket. Very reasonable, quick, clean, tidy and a real gent! Thanks again, Tim, for another fine job.
  18. I recently had my mac laptop repaired very quickly and efficiently by Systems Solutions based in Blackwater Street, 0208 693 3355. Price was reasonable and service was superb.
  19. Used to be known as Dawes for Doors. We had our front door replaced by them shortly after moving in and cannot fault them in any way. The door itself was of excellent quality, the furniture likewise. It was available for fitting very quickly after we placed the order and, despite our frame being quite a bit off a true rectangle (house on quite a slope), the fitter ensured that the end result was a very snug, draught-free fit. We'll be using them to replace our back door in the next few years as the one we "inherited" from the previous owner is rubbish!
  20. If you're experiencing flickering lights regularly, then it would be worthwhile getting your electrics checked. We had been experiencing flickering for several months until one Sunday a few weeks ago. Then we noticed a burning smell... End result? Fire brigade had to be called, then the electricity supply company, electricity cut off from Sunday evening to Monday evening. Electricity intake (one of the old bakelite types) was on the verge of going on fire. The flickering was due to the faulty intake... Cost a fair bit to replace, but worth every penny. Your situation might be different, but if you're also experiencing your lights dimming a little or the flickering intensifying noticeably when you turn on equipment which uses a lot of power, then your situation might be similar to ours... Don't want to be alarmist...but maybe better to be safe than sorry.
  21. Can't speak highly enough of Tim Hill of Hill Electrical Services. Had an overheating electrical intake on Sunday evening, which required Fire Brigade attendance and an emergency disconnection from the electrical supply. I contacted Tim after reading a few recommendations on the Forum and he was on the job first thing next morning. Quite a job! The old, Bakelite fittings were removed, a new isolator installed - requiring making some modifications via the downstairs flat, and so on... Fantastic piece of work, carried out calmly and with good humour. Highly, highly recommended. Contact details. 07958 234 534 or 0208 699 9726 or [email protected]
  22. Had a very good experience with Mourad of MK Plumbing and Heating Services. Local (Copleston Road). Very professional, personable, trustworthy, reliable. No hesitation whatsoever in recommending. His contact numbers are 07950 478 383 or 0800 619 8129.
  23. Agree with the peterstorm1985 above. Quoting an act which has absolutely no relevance to the situation in hand simply won't wash (pardon the awful pun). The following is copied from directgov... Human Rights Act The Human Rights Act 1998 gives further legal effect in the UK to the fundamental rights and freedoms contained in the European Convention on Human Rights. These rights not only impact matters of life and death, they also affect the rights you have in your everyday life: what you can say and do, your beliefs, your right to a fair trial and other similar basic entitlements. Most rights have limits to ensure that they do not unfairly damage other people's rights. However, certain rights ? such as the right not to be tortured ? can never be limited by a court or anybody else. You have the responsibility to respect other people's rights, and they must respect yours. Your human rights are: the right to life freedom from torture and degrading treatment freedom from slavery and forced labour the right to liberty the right to a fair trial the right not to be punished for something that wasn't a crime when you did it the right to respect for private and family life freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and freedom to express your beliefs freedom of expression freedom of assembly and association the right to marry and to start a family the right not to be discriminated against in respect of these rights and freedoms the right to peaceful enjoyment of your property the right to an education the right to participate in free elections the right not to be subjected to the death penalty If any of these rights and freedoms are breached, you have a right to an effective solution in law, even if the breach was by someone in authority, such as, for example, a police officer. (Edited to make grammatical an otherwise ungrammatical first sentence...)
  24. Although, given the rogue apostrophe in your opening post, maybe you should consider opening a greengrocer's...
