  1. I do not understand some people's reluctance to do online banking. I use it all the time. I can see immediately what's going in and out of my account and keep tabs on my household payments for things like gas and electricity which I have a separate account for. I have not used an actual bank in years for over the counter transactions except and only when the ATM is out of service. These days you can get cashback quite easily at most big stores or supermarkets if you need to carry cash. We just have to adapt and move with the times. I'm now 80 years old and much prefer doing my banking from the comfort of my home!
  2. You could try putting a message on Nextdoor East Dulwich South. Someone recently recovered a lost wallet on that forum. I do hope the wallet is reunited with its owner. Do keep us posted as it would be so good to know the outcome.
  3. I need my old conservatory dismantled and a new one erected in its place. The brick wall base can be retained and I would prefer a timber or aluminium rebuild, no PVA. Can anyone recommend a reliable builder. I was waiting for Anglia Home Improvements to turn up and give a quote but no-one arrived and no apology - very poor customer service! I've struck them off my list!
  4. Just received a parcel ordered on 1st Dec containing Christmas crackers and Christmas tree baubles! Not just a bit late but well late. In good time for next year though! Is the current situation really all down to Covid or is there a shortage of staff due to cut-backs? I believe a lot of staff were laid off. Royal Mail was always so reliable, not any longer it seems!
  5. Conway are supposedly replacing paving slabs on Wood Vale/Lordship Lane end. There has been a Conway hut there for a while and stacks of paving slabs sitting alongside. Has anyone any idea when this work is due to start or will we be looking at the same thing in a year's time! It becomes a bit tricky if you walk down this side of the road and someone is coming the other way - no chance of social distancing!
  6. Any recommendations please for the best Chinese food in the area or fairly nearby. I particularly like pancake rolls, but not those little ones called spring rolls. Also proper spare ribs and not ones cooked with red colouring.
  7. She was stabbed at her home around 10pm. She was rushed to Kings but sadly died soon after admittance. Her ex-husband has been arrested and is due to go on trial at The Old Bailey in October. The whole thing is just so tragic. However, I do wonder why he was carrying a knife in the first place! Was it with intent or just something he always had on him? I guess all will be revealed at his trial. My heart goes out to her family, especially her 10 year old daughter who will have to live with the horror of this. It's just heartbreaking.
  8. Well done Chener. That solitary book in the window has a mighty big impact! Speaks volumes!
  9. We got ours at B&Q many years ago and it's stayed upright and watertight in the most severe of weather conditions. We did have to have a concrete base laid for it to stand on, so you might want to bear that in mind. I think you may also find a selection of sheds at local garden centers. I believe Shannons in Forest Hill used to have some on display but I am going back a good number of years. I'm sure they would be able to advise as they are very helpful. Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.
  10. That's rotten for you Jan42 and I very much sympathize. If these young men are identified and police are able to obtain their names and addresses I wonder how brave they would be in front of Mum and Dad?
  11. This type of assault is nothing new. I am no longer a young woman but in the past, when I was, I can count at least four incidents where I had been followed and even stalked. At the time it never occurred to me to report the stalking incidents to the police. On one occasion I was followed from the bus stop and my potential attacker was in front of me. He hid himself in the entrance to a block of flats and then, once I'd passed, he came out and was behind me. I turned around and faced him and he ran off. This happened over 40 years ago but the feeling of being vulnerable has never left me so psychologically it affected me quite badly. This was back in the 80s and to this day I am very aware of who's behind me or in front of me.
  12. That is so disrespectful. Dog walkers need to be mindful of their surroundings. It's peaceful and pleasant to walk through but please be aware it's not a park, it's a cemetery! The same goes for toddlers on trikes and children on bikes! There are enough parks in the area for this sort of activity!
  13. If the helicopter was looking for someone I'm almost certain it would have direct contact with police on the ground so that the person could be picked up fairly quickly. The cost of launching and flying a helicopter is very costly so I believe there must have been good reason.
  14. My post is delivered from the Forest Hill depot and I've had no problems at all. Always arrives around 10am. So all credit to them. I'm sure Covid has affected a lot businesses locally and we need to support them as much as we can. Just wear a mask and keep a safe distance and if you can't get out or are shielding, possibly some local shops will do home deliveries. It may be worth checking with them. Payment of course has to be by card as no cash can be handled.
