I have never heard of this,but as far as I know all mot test centres are strictly in compliance with dvla or sorn or which ever department it is. These days I am quite sure that any garage that are certified to do these tests will do more or less exactly the same thorough job. Prices are usually around ?45.

I agree that the tiling is atrocious. The man has not applied the basic principles required which clearly has resulted in ridiculous slithers on the corners of walls and tiles cut to fit in the middle of runs. It is not easy to tile unless walls are true and shouldn't be attempted unless they are. I would say that to remedy your problem would be to start a fresh.
