  3. Why Men Walk on the Outside of a Woman. "In 16th-century England, the habit of emptying chamber pots out of upper-story windows into the gutter made a city stroll so hazardous that gentlemen gallantly took the side nearest the curb when walking with their ladies--a position they have assumed ever since, without quite knowing why." So that's why.

Sometimes though, particularly in places like a train station where people tend to be in a rush, we would have a little dance upon meeting, going one way the then the other, before getting past each other.
  5. What school of thought are you talking about H? I think the habit of doing this goes back to the days where there may have been a danger of a lady being splashed by a passing horse and cart and ruining her dress. I might be wrong of course.
  6. If I'm walking on a footpath and a woman is walking towards me, I am in the habit of moving to the roadside of the path as I think for some strange reason it is good manners. I must have been brainwashed.

  8. Perhaps there's a lunch offer instead at that time.

I take it from this then that you are not a lady.
  11. A one time frequent user of the forum, Lady Muck, changed her username to Laddy Muck. How about Laddies for either male or female?
  12. One of the little charms of visiting Seville on many occasions over the years was hearing the whistle of the knife sharpeners as they wandered around. I don't know what sort of whistle it was but it was very easy on the ear.
  13. Barca conceded 4 at the week-end.
  14. I took MM's advice and emailed Iceland. The response I got was as follows: "Thank you for your email. I have no information to state that this store is closing. I hope this information helps."
  15. What's giving you the pain in that list Rosie?
  16. I've seen a similar thread not too long ago though I don't remember which road/s. You are not on your own.
  17. I can't help thinking that what happened in Serbia during the week has had an influence on some players being frustrated by what isn't being done to rid football of racism. Not just here but in Europe too. By the way many players decided not to wear the t shirts. Swansea as a team didn't and Wigan didn't either in support of the Swansea players stance. Black players are fed up and I can't blame them. How can a body like the FA made up of white men really understand what it is they have had to put up with? Of course they go tut tut but they need to come down more heavily on players like Terry if they are to have any credibility. He gets a 4 game ban to Suarez's 8 because he abused someone less times.Once is enough. You can't measure it against anything else.
  18. Technical question for the experts. I wagered a small bet on Rooney to score yesterday. Would I have won if he had only scored the o.g.?

Does this merit a thread called 'Arkle'?
  21. Does the midlands have to be East or West?
  22. Being asked if I'm from the North or the South. Answering 'the midlands', I'm then asked,'is that in the North or the South'? I then try and explain that parts of the South are more northerly than parts of the North and vice versa of course. People tend to give up then and my rage subsides without even mentioning the East and the West.

Instant disqualification I hope or at least a hefty fine.
