  1. Just whizzed into a newsagent, had a look at the SLP and there was a (very fab!) photo of Katie on the front cover! Brilliant! Well done Katie and well done all those who have got involved in organising this! You guys should be proud. And it all started here on the EDF! spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  2. Poor Postie - what a shameful, cowardly thing to do. I hope he gets better quickly and I really hope the scumbags are caught and banged up. Poor guy. spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  3. Oooh, I dunno about natives - my knowledge is too scanty, but for perennials try:- What Asset said! And Geraniums are good particularly geranium phaem or phaem album; hellebores species and hybrid (the helleborus foetidus is a european native), aquliegias do well, epimediums (dog tooth violets) are good and also vinca minor (with pretty blue flowers). Euphorbia amygdaloides vr. robbiae is really attractive with lime green flowery bracts - and it spreads to cover the ground. And FERNS! I love ferns - some die back and some are evergreen. There is also a rather boring green plant called pachysandra that can manage under trees - no flowers but it does cover the ground. Some peonies can manage a fair bit of shade. Camellias and pittosporum tobira tolerate shade. What else? Hydrangeas. And Ivy - insects and birds love ivy - it can be good ground cover or a good climber. I've run out of ideas now. Have fun at the garden center! spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  4. Wonderful! Congratulation MP, very happy for both of you! spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  5. You guys, what are you like?! Peeing on stuff is your remedy for all household ills! ::o spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  6. See! I was right!! Squish half of them 'manually' and the other half take fright and run away! The only drawback is that it's youcky...eeuuw! I think that Mikewbate is right - tell them off. And if I see any men in ED shouting at their hedges I'll know its you, Mark!
  7. Yup! You have to douse them with it - absolutely drench the hedge. Hope it works! spymum
  8. Actually that's a good point Bawdy-nan; nasturtiums do get covered with blackfly. But if you grow nasturtiums to draw away the blackfly you still end up having. . . blackfly! How about this one - attract more song birds and ladybirds into your garden to eat the blighters. But Huguenot's methodical plan appeals to me for some reason! spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  9. Spray the hedge with diluted soapy water; that can work quite well. Or, on roses if you squish them with your fingers this seems to deter the rest! Or is that just wishful thinking on my part? spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  10. So, Nunhead - is it up and coming?. With a three bedroom Victorian terrace costing between ?300 - ?400, 000 it seems to have up and gone already! Crikey, our first house (also a three bedroomed terrace with a good garden) was only ?105,000! And it wasn't so long ago either. London prices are stark raving mad. spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  11. I've been laughing at your post Mockney and the fact that you've been 'wiiing' mostly! (Sorry, playground humour!) Use of the verb 'To Wii' is going to cause lots of confusion with the older, non-gaming generation methinks! spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  12. Sorry to hear that Ratty and please be careful! I don't think angry driving men are specific to Nunhead tho; I wish they'd be specific to somewhere a - then we could all avoid them! ;-) spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  13. Keef, you youngster you! You still rock! Did you 'gig' at Rock Nite!? Where all the slouchy, Vans wearing, almost 'emo' teens looked utterly bored and deeply cool? How I wish I'd been cool as a teen - why didn't I get to go to a Rock Nite? Unfair! spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  14. FredFlange, please feel better! Nunhead is a wonderful area - it has a good train service into Blackfriars or Victoria, the wonderfully atmospheric Cemetery and the houses and cottages are beautifully preserved. You are walking distance to Telegraph Hill which has not one, but TWO parks - (go see the amazing views from the dog park at the very top) and the Telegraph Hill festival is simply incredible; many actors, opera singers and TV professional live in the area so the level of talent given freely is fantastic. Then there is the playgroup in the Lower Park where the staff are kind and friendly. The High Street is brilliant; Ayres the Baker, Sopers, the two florists, the old fashioned grocers. Everyone is lovely - it's like a step back in time. There is a renowned catholic boys school attached to the church that gets incredibly high grades in maths and sciences. The junior schools are all good! What's not to love?! The bit you are aiming for is quieter and peaceful - same pretty houses, but more of an East Dulwich feel. There is Waverley gym and the kiddie section of Peckham Rye Park all close by. I think you done well, my son! (tu) spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
