  1. A little aside, How come phones are manufactured so vulnerable..... sue the phone makers/providers for failing to protect the privacy of of their customers. If the phones themselves are so easy to listen into this will never stop.

So the fact that all Southern countries of the E U defaulting, and none of the Northen ones, with the exception of Ireland, has nothing to do with climate? I understand the climate theory is reductionist but I believe it plays a fairly important part in the whole economical equation...less productivity due to fewer working hours is perhaps one of the obvious variable.

What I am in broad strokes referring to is Montesquieu theory of geocultural determinism where I think the term -insular- was also created as a qualitative adjective to folk living in the British Ilses. Montesquieu lived during the 18th century...a bit before Weber by a couple of centuries Not wanting to be to inflammatory but still wanting to add to this hypothesis, I think it is also relevant to add that a hot climate tend to slow the pace of life as it unfolds daily... that is until me air-con the whole world. The argument goes against rational economical theories which want fit its principles in one neat conceptual bag. Out there, ... but hey, adds fuel to the topic.

If one agrees to the premice that people who live in colder harsher climate will have a greater propensity for work, steming from the neccessity to insulate ourselves from the weather. Then maybe it is lost cause to think that countries like Spain, Greece, the regions of southern Italy will ever contribute meanigfuly enough to keep the Euro strong. Perhaps there is a clever solution to harmonise to completely different economical dynamics. Any ideas?

A little aside, let us feel a bit privileged living in the only area that that close to Charing Cross ( where the mile 0 is ) where street parking is free. Why? Maybe this has something to do with the fact that pretty much every Southwark councilor lives it leafy Dulwich... It is not fair, but lets hope it lasts, because it greatly enhances quality of life. Would it not be great if all Londoners could park more freely?

I suppose a rethorical question is not really a question...or is it ??
  9. hi, I found my old copy given to me a long while ago, and am reluctant to part from it. Nevertheless if this helps, the editor is Editions Gallimard. The adresse written in the book might not be current, and is 5 rue Sebastien-Bottin, Paris. You will also find that his complete works (St Exupery), are in a beautifully bound bible-paper style edition called "Bibliotheque de la Pleiade". They are rather good especially for boys (airoplanes war and all that...) Good luck.
  10. Hi, I just caught this thread because I have been trying to find somewhere to buy chipottle chilies somewhere round here. So if anyone of you does know I would be glad to find out. in advance thank you.
  11. May I talk about Mr Tiddles and friends who use my garden as toilet cum hunting ground. let us not forget cats are the one of the very few animal that kill for thrills... 200 000 wild birds a day in Great Britain. So why not spare a thought for our native wild life endangered by the whims of cruel cats.
  12. I one saw a cat being run over, his spine crushed... but somehow, he managed to retreat quickly to a nearby bush to die. I went close to the bush and in no incertant ways told me to b**ger off. It seems cats and other animals like to die away from preying eyes. Sorry for your loss
  13. How come so many people confuse "was" and "were" as in "we was doing..." how can it be that so many brits cannot conjugate the simplest of verbs.... appalling

  16. Some say the whole universe(s) is but a little dream (or nightmare) in God's night. My view is that we have not made anything but have only discovered and are discovering about stuff which is basically to clever for it to be a coincidence akin to throwing a dice googles of times and it falling every time on the same value... question solved. Please do not confuse the concept of God with the moral right or wrong slant of religion...an entirely different debate.
