  1. My sister and me were evacuated to Coventry just before Coventry was itself bombed, My dad was in the Army but managed to get a message to my mum saying that if we were going to be bombed anywhere it might as well be in our own home so we were returned to Grenard road where guess what.,our house was bombed, and were then moved into a council requesitioned house in Marmora Rd where we stayed until 1957.
  2. I remember the street party that was held to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth held for the children in Marmora road, unfortunatly during various house moves the photos that I had have all been lost, I remember that they were taken by the local photographer Mr.Willings who lived at Number 24, does anyone have any copies of these photos or know how I would be able to aquire them, I would appreciate any help, I would also love to hear any memories from those who lived in Marmora Rd between 1942 and 1956. Many thanks
  3. During the 50's there was a photographer in Marmora road around number 24 or 26, I think his name was Willins or similar, does anyone know if someone took over his business or what happened to his photos as I am sure they would have been saved by someone. I lived in Marmora rd from 1942 until 1957 and would love to find old photos of the coronation street party, I had one but it was lost in a house move and I would love to replace it.
  4. I was always told that Lord Haw Haw lived in Barry rd before his "Germany calling" days, now is that interesting or what
  5. From 1956 to 1964 I used to cycle from Marmora rd down to the kings Arms then lots of lefts and rights into Lyndhurst Way then lefts and right at the bottom into Southhampton Way past the Samual Jones factory and again lefts and rights into Addington Sq and then right into the gates of Hilger & Watts where I was an apprentice. It took me 20 mins there was no stopping and very little trafic It was always a great ride but I didnt like arriving as it meant work, The ride home was a lot harder as it was all up hill, I moved away from the area in 1970 so I dont know how it has changed but I know I couldnt do it in 20 mins now. Happy days
  6. Does anyone know what happened to Steamline motorcycles at the top of Lordship lane, I bought my first bike there in 1958 it was a really powerfull 250cc BSA CLG, if the wind was behind it could manage all of 60mph, the shop started as a single unit and soon took over several adjacent shops, the last time I saw it about 1973 it seemed to be doing well so I was supprised to see it has gone, does anyone know what happened to the owners I think they were Mike and Neal
