Any of you fellow fish keepers have a spare air pump for a 100ltr + tank. Mine is broken and I urgently need one in this hot weather

Thank you SpringTime for your input. Naturally asking neighbours would be the first port of call, but did you stop to realise why I'm asking my wider community before adding your aggressive comment? None of my neighbours have need for such tools as we live in an purpose built apartments with no garden. It's nice to see such warm and welcoming comments to my friendly shout out :-(

Hello Friends Does anyone have a garden Spade I could borrow for a day? I need to dig myself a hole, literally a small one. In the West Dulwich preferably, but I can drive to pick up, can leave you a deposit for peace of mind. Kind regards James

I have known this educated well read, travelled mature gentleman for many years, even worked alongside him at one stage. I'm sure he wont begrudge me writing this, however his pride might do. His name is Ian, the name behind his forum name right-clicking in where he has helped many in the community with their computer related issues, and I may hasten to add for no fee sometimes; just offering friendly advice. I might get into trouble for this post but I can't sit back and see a friend be destroyed by such an unfortunate set of circumstances. Within a space of 18months he was made redundant, and at his age (58) has found it difficult in an ageist society to find suitable work for his calibre, though he has worked doing say lesser work. On top of that his marriage broke down leaving him to be separated from his two wonderful children. If that was not enough to cope with last year he discovered he had cancer and spent months in hospital of which he is still recovering from (in remission), it is no wonder his finances took a hit forcing his landlord to evict him for late payments etc etc. I beg of you kind people of East Dulwich and the surrounding communities to see his tragic plight and look at his link http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?9,1661115,1662289#msg-1662289 Even it's not to buy anything, possible give any advice, words of encouragement or even help a man whom due to no fault of his own has become a victim of such unfortunate circumstances. I'm hoping and believe in the power of community spirit will prevail, it's the right thing to look after our neighbours, our community when in times of hardship, despite us living in a capitalist state. I thank you all for taking the time to read this, and hope you can offer some support no matter how small. Warmest Regards James

nice one

Bring fox hunting into London, that would be fun. The noise that comes from my neighbours garden, where they must have a fox den, with the bloody noise they make along with the magpies during mating season, I hear from more blooming wildlife than when I lived in the Cotswolds

Just keeping it up there

I thought I'd give this a try, I know it's rather unorthodox, but the network of friendly people on this forum just might be able to help me find a counselling placement in Dulwich and the surrounding areas, or maybe further afar. I'm in my final year of qualifying to be a counsellor/psychotherapist, so far I have been studying for four years as a career change, and it's been going well. One of my strengths this year has been my client work, but unfortunately my current agency are having difficulties with gaining clients for counselling as this service is relatively new for them. This has left me with no clients, which has lead me to fall behind in my diploma. I work integratively, which means I use various approaches of pyschotherapy, depending on the clients needs, agenda and goals. I'm reaching out to the local community in the hope you might know of any organisation/agency that are looking for a voluntary counsellor, preferably they will need to supply supervision. To all the good people of our community please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any ideas. Contact me via private message or text/call on 07909513407 Many thanks for taking the time to read and hear my plea. Warm Regards James

My Uncle was an avid Arsenal supporter before passing away a while ago. He use to work in the events business and when my Dad was clearing out his stuff he found hidden at the back of a filing cabinet an Adidas football boots bag signed by Freddie Ljungberg, once of Arsenal, but inside are a pair of muddy crusted Nike Total 90111 size 11/46 footbal boots (big feet) that have been signed in blue biro. The thing is they are not the same signature as Freddie's. There are three signatues; 1 on the right and 2 on the left boot. I think they are the same but not too sure. All I can make out is Arsenal and best wishes. The signatures are typically unreadable. I've deducted from when the boots were first made by Nike they are circa 2000-2006. So they come from the Highbury days which coincides when my Uncle went to all the home games. I've been investigating on line all players of this era and trying to match autographs, but have had no joy. Any ideas would be welcome as I would like to get them verified, cos there must of been a good reason why my Uncle kept them stashed away instead of auctioning them of for charity through the business. Or if you know anyone that might be interested purchasing them let me know also as they were given to me as I'm an Arsenal season ticket holder for my sins. Come on you GOONERS. Cheers all.

I've lived all round the country and over two years ago I had call to use Kings A&E, their diagnosis was totally incorrect and the treatment I received after was second rate. Never have i encountered such incompetence in a hospital. However the staff in A&E are nice, it's just the hospital trust or maybe NHS services that are inept, and twi years later I'm still experiencing it.

Frankito, After the initial set up and you have everything up and running all you have to do is feed them everyday, and you can get automatic feeders which mean you don't have to physically be there. So great for when you're away. Admittedly in the first few months you need to do more maintenance and checks, but no more than 1-3 hours every fortnight. You would spent more time walking and looking after a dog. After a while when the tank has matured the good bacteria starts to create it's own biolife and then the tank starts to look after itself. Check out Practical Fishkeeping this is arguable the best site for information, with loads of extras.

I know the Goldfish Bowl very well as I use to live in Oxford, it's one of the best, though a little expensive, but you pay for what you get.

Hi All I've been hoping one day to turn my hobby into a business and with all the interest and fascination in aquaria, and the joys it brings to hobbyists and families alike I just thought as my first entry to this forum I mention a few of the basics in keeping and maintaining freshwater fish in aquariums. I've been keeping, breeding and setting up freshwater aquariums? for the last ten years, and it pains me to see many fish deaths being caused by bad maintenance. There has been a rise in people purchasing aquariums? without really doing their research into how to look after their new pets. The biggest killer of fish is poor water quality, and you can only achieve a good environment for your pets if you invest some quality time like you would on any enjoyable hobby in the first months of your tank maturing. Remember aquarium fish live in their own toilet and the bigger the tank the easier to maintain, so get the biggest tank you can afford within your budget, but you'll also need good filtration and for tropical fish a thermostat and heater is required. Coldwater fish i.e. Goldfish and their fancy cousins need bigger tanks or stocked to a lesser degree as they create more waste. When maintaining and cleaning its imperative you only do a partial water change i.e. 20%-30% per fortnight at the very least. You must ensure the new water is treated with a ready available declorinator to counter the additives, including Chlorine, Calcium hydroxide, Chloramine, Fluorosilicic acid to name a few put in for us to drink, which if left untreated are poisonous to fish. Another important factor to consider with the replacement water is to make sure it is the same temperature of that in the tank. Sudden water temperature changes can be a killer. Just use a cheap internal thermostat to gauge the new water. Tropical will need to be warmer, never use hot water from the tap. I use hot water from a boiled kettle to get the temperature up to the required amount. This should be mixed, treated and checked in a bucket before adding to the tank. As you don't need a heater for coldwater fish just ensure the replacement water is at room temperature, You will find water from the tap will be colder than room temperature, so either store the bucket of treated new water overnight to get up to room temperature or for quickness had boiled hot water and test with a thermometer before adding to tank. A good tip when cleaning the sponges from your filter is never clean/rinse under the tap, clean them in the old tank water you have taken out. It is important especially when the tank set up is new to allow the good bacteria to benefit the maturation of the aquarium, helping to prevent 'new tank syndrome' Hope this has been of help, please feel free to contact me if I can help further. REMEMBER Good maintenance = responsible pet owner Good filtration = good fish management Quality water = healthy fish Happy fish = enjoyable and happy owners A happy hobbyist :) James
