House prices might be very different after Brown's lost the election to the 'oranges'. -
merging of services between Southwark and Lambeth Councils
SteveT replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Must we absorb another bunch of improvident lack wits which we have to fork out for, they (Lambeth) have the highest rates in the land because of their dire performance and weird and corrupt political outlook. -
Brown is breaking new ground.......trying to get elected to his office for the first and only time. I am surprised the Labour party haven't had a change of leadership before this election campaign started, they would have had a much better chance of retaining power had they done so.

Moos wrote:- In your fundamental world..... I did say I would not choose fundamentalism at the beginning of the post Moos, but there are some things which might be taken and used from other societies which we might benefit. It certainly worked in Afghanistan. It is cheaper and more efficient to have one semi-disabled man than hundreds of police, warders, judiciary etc. If the odd serial rapist was castrated I think that would be in order too. Illegal immigrants when caught would do enough hard labour to earn their own ticket before being shipped out. Repeat offenders of asbo's would be given a flogging. You would not have to mete out much punishment because the media coverage would be enough of a deterrant. It will never happen in my lifetime but as money gets tighter and we can no longer sustain the levels of police etc. then something more radical will take place here.

General Election Debates - Announcement
SteveT replied to The Chair's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Perhaps they should send there replies in an email and you could print them out on here, that way the candidates do not know what the other answers are? Just a thought. -
Sean MacG wrote:- Besides Steve, say what you like about those religions, some of them are WELL up for chopping off hands for a bit of the old stealing, just like you. Not all bad, eh ?? There was a BBC reporter went to Afganistan and lived with her aunt for a couple of weeks and she moaned at having to cover her head as the baby of the house cried in fear to see her head uncovered. Her cousin about 18 said the rulers (taliban) were not all bad as they succeeded in getting stealing stopped. They had chopped off a thieves arm and stuck it on a pike for all to see. Thus all stealing ceased from that day, the cousin saw it as a positive thing the BBC girl was appalled. Muslim fundamentalism is not what I would choose and many others would agree, but I am sure people would vote for a "no theft policy" and if it was achieved by lopping an arm off, it is very efficient in that you would only have to chop one off. It's a very cheap solution too, you would not need nearly so many police, probation officers, lawyers, judges, law-courts, prisons, warders etc. It is because of all those listed that we will not see it happen here. Sadly we will continue to watch stolen bikes being sold down Brick lane, burglars, bankers, and MP's being themselves and nothing done about it.

As all the planes land in airports around London (except City airport) why are they allowed to fly across London? It would be safer for all of us to land at the first airport they arrived at without crossing the city.

I remember some member of the SA cabinet blaming many of the countries ills on females wearing miniskirts, this was in the early seventies, an enlightened era. ???? wrote:-The dilemma for lefties not daring to criticise anything multicultural but then having to put up with blatant mysogony/homophobia etc is one that consistently tickles me That is an interesting point quids, they haven't lost their voice for so many other lesser issues, yet they are speechless on other topics. I wonder, is it political correctness keeping them quiet?

:)):)) Ah yes, it all falls into place Brendan! I could not understand how you could have Norway, Finland, and Denmark, yet not Sweden included in the mix? It's bizarre!

I am surprised at the females in this country allowing this religion to take hold, they were certainly vociferous and united in burning bra's to obtain equality during the seventies. Do you not think this is something of a step backwards?

New speed cameras trap Southwark motorists from space
SteveT replied to HAL9000's topic in The Lounge
matty wrote:- So...You are angry that you might get caught speeding? Well I hope you do and have your licence taken away ; ) No not at all, I have a cruise control so it's easy to avoid speeding, most of my fines are for unwittingly trespassing into the congestion zone. My anger is due to the deliberate negligence of priorities, that could so easily be implemented by reconfiguring the traffic lights to match other world class cities. -
Whoever wrote this study must have some realestate in France for sale. When the guys came back after the end of the war the most frequent chant was 'never trust a Frenchman, always trust a German', I wonder why? Everyone I know who has invested in a property has had difficulty selling it for what they paid in spite of any restoration they may have added.

Any hidden costs or negatives about having a nanny?
SteveT replied to Layla's Mum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We had a couple straight out of college and it was rather like adopting another child. We found all our nannies through the Lady magazine but this was some years ago. The best nanny we ever had was in her 30s she was easy to get along with and was extremely capable, nothing ever seemed to be a problem, and she could cook. We were approached by several europeans who had pidgin english which I thought was inappropriate as our youngest was late learning to talk, and our eldest explained that we had recently been burgled and the Bulgarian girl applying could not grasp what she was talking about and just smiled inanely and nodded at her. The good ones are like gold dust and you need to keep them as if they are a rare antique, but most are at best average and not trained satisfactorily, nor do they have the maturity to have absorbed sufficient life skills to give you the peace of mind you desire. Best of luck and get your advert in early. Steve. -
Stolen Car 19/04/10 from St Francis Road
SteveT replied to Rufus's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That must have come as a shock Rufus, I hope the insurance is the same standard as the build of the car, and covered for theft.
