Hi. Is there anybody on this forum who could fit two fire doors this week? Please get in touch or send recommendations if you can. Thanks very much.

I've used Duration Windows for our single glazed sashes. They've been excellent. If you order through a builder you can get a trade price, and they're relatively simple to fit yourself too if you want it even cheaper. Just make sure you measure accurately (twice)!

We lost our daughter's much loved turquoise maxi micro scooter outside the Co-op on Forest Hill Road yesterday afternoon (Monday). It's a long shot, but if you happened to pick it up or know where it is, please do get in touch. You would make a 4-year-old (not to mention her parents) very happy. Thank you.

How to Extend your Victorian Terraced House
adamc79 replied to Green and Teggin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think it's a great idea. No idea about the maths or the merits of (self)publishing I'm afraid, but I would have bought a copy before I extended my Victorian terrace. Very happy for you to PM me if you want another case study. -
Yes BrandNewGuy, you can just turn up and swim. No need to join. Check the times before you go though of course.

I was selling at the May version of this car boot at the weekend, and we did pretty well. Well organised, friendly and decent footfall too. (I let the organiser know, and promised I'd repeat my thoughts here on the forum!)

Getting single glazed sash windows double glazed
adamc79 replied to 1921's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Hi. duration.co.uk do really good secondary glazing units. They're made to measure and you can either fit them yourself (quite straightforward if you've done a bit of DIY), or pay someone to install them (which more than doubles the price). Anyway, I've used them a couple of times and it works well. Certainly much cheaper than having the whole window replaced, and it means you can keep the original window too. -
Thank you everyone for your posts and your PMs. Much appreciated.

Hello. I live by Peckham Rye and am looking for a cleaner to do 3 hours a fortnight in our house. I'm keen to hear recommendations from anybody with a good cleaner in the area. Alternatively if you're looking for cleaning work and can provide references, I'd love to hear from you too. Many thanks, Adam

What do you Want out of The Flying Pig Pub???
adamc79 replied to ED_The Flying Pig's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Hello. I went to the Flying Pig the other day for the pulled pork and it wasn't on the menu any more. We had a burger which was fine, but not nearly as good as the food used to be. For me, if it's not a barbecue pub, it's just another pub. I like the big selection of beers, but the food was your distinctive thing, and now that's gone. -
No-one's mentioned potentially the best fish and chip shop in London, which is just down the road. Brockley Rock in Brockley: http://www.eastlondonlines.co.uk/2015/02/brockley-chippy-hands-out-free-chips-to-celebrate-award/ I always make the journey there to collect our fish and chips, and it's always worth it. I thought Olley's was pretty poor, and Rose's not bad at all, but Brockley Rock is the winner for me.

response to enquiry re Rye Lane Cycling
adamc79 replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks Renata, much appreciated. Abe, I think that's a really interesting principle and it does work well on that street in Kensington. The trouble on Rye Lane is that people have no reason to expect to see bikes on the pavement as they wander out of the shopping centre. It's pretty dangerous. -

This would be such a in easy fix. Just mark it out with yellow lines, and more pedestrians will realise it's a cycle path.I cycle along it every day, and I can't blame the people who walk into it. Generally they just think it's a (particularly bumpy) section of the pavement. -
Hi Adam. You definitely want to shop around. Prices do vary a bit. I found the best price was from a company in Norfolk called Less2build, but that was a couple of years ago.

Do you walk through through Camberwell New Cemetery?
adamc79 replied to east-of-the-Rye's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi henryb Good luck with your SSW campaign. Could I ask you to raise the point we've mentioned about re-instating the footpath entrance opposite Kelvington Road please? This is in Camberwell New Cemetery and would effectively bring Honor Oak Park station much closer to many residents in our part of Nunhead. This doesn't seem to be in any current plans but it doesn't make any sense to me that this access route is currently shut. Thanks -
Do you walk through through Camberwell New Cemetery?
adamc79 replied to east-of-the-Rye's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Good work, east-of-the-rye. I emailed the council about these plans, asking them to re-open the gate opposite the southern end of Kelvington Road. If that was open, there'd be a direct route for pedestrians from that part of Nunhead through to Honor Oak Park station. For many of us, it's our nearest station as the crow flies but is actually quite impractical currently because the route is so circuitous - either through the woods of One Tree Hill or through the main cemetery entrance on Brenchley Gardens. You end up doing three sides of a square, if the path is open at all. Good luck with your efforts. They didn't get back to me about it, but I'd be very happy to contact them again if you find somebody who actually responds. -
To clarify, Amicus Horizon actually own the property (outsourced by the council), and have their own legal team who look after Party Wall Awards. Good luck!
-
Hi. I went through this exact process with my neighbour's house, and found that I needed to go through a property management company called Amicus Horizon. They're a huge housing organisation that manage Southwark's property. Whether they manage ALL Southwark's houses I couldn't tell you, but certainly worth getting in touch with them to see if your neighbour's house is one of theirs too. Failing that, go through Land Registry to get the official title deeds, which will tell you who owns it. This was how I came across Amicus Horizon, after wasting weeks trying to get the council to respond. Turns out I didn't need to go through Southwark at all, even though it was a council property. (Another important reason to get the official title deeds - for both adjacent houses, assuming you're getting party wall agreements from both sides - is that you have to make sure the agreement has the exact correct name on otherwise some tricksy lawyer will tell you it's invalid if you do ever have a dispute.) It's such a fiddly, boring, time-consuming and expensive piece of bullsh*t legalese, so I don't envy you going through this, but stick at it and you'll get it sorted! Adam

Burgess park path builders 'chicane'?
adamc79 replied to AnotherPaul's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A word of warning, Matryx: I cycled through there the other day (at a careful walking pace, it goes without saying...) and I got stopped by a pair of community support officers waiting to pounce. They told me they'd already fined someone ?30 that morning, but they let me off. -
Hi. I've used a guy called Chris Vincent Bennett who is very thorough. He's on 07971 720736.
