  1. If she were a complete lunatic, then perhaps we'd be nicer to leave her alone and not berate her from the comfort of our living rooms. If she were not a lunatic, then she sounds like she deserved to be confronted. Nero
  2. At risk of being lounged, one of my more surreal SE22/21 moments was when I saw a peacock just poking around lazily on the street where you come out of Dulwich Woods a couple of years ago. It was lovely to see such langorous ostentation amidst suburbia. But to keep it on message, I haven't been in to eat at Le Chandelier, but am put off by the high prices/small portions I read about. I understand it's novel and upmarket, but I just hate it when I suspect they might be ripping me off after dazzling me with their wares and decor. I think I'll pop in for tea and cake, but not much more. Nero
  3. I like the look of the old tyre shop too. I was just remarking on it last night. I don't really want a dress shop, but I am neither a woman nor a transvestite. Nero
  4. Is it, do you think, the world's only tea and chandelier shop? If it is, then that is SOME unique selling point. (Shudders to self at using such blatantly corporate language.) Nero
  5. It's there as a monument to one that was there before. Hmmm, why not have a photo of it as a monument? A fountain that looks like a fountain but isn't a fountain is a waste of money and time, IMHO. Nero
  6. Remember when Louisa thought she'd seen Mad Lizzie in Barry Road. Well, I can confirm that it wasn't her. My mate who owns the rights to tv-am asked her (they meet up often) and she said although she used to come to E Dulwich a lot in the past, she hasn't been for ages. Nero
  7. Mockney! I've just eaten! Nero (Didn't have to go to the dictionary for that, being a Popbitch old hand.)
  8. Who forced them into a re-bake.
  9. The South London Press is going to run the waterless fountain story next week. I've just been on the blower to our local hack, Tom. There is another twist to this story, even more unbelievable than the original idea of a fountain with no water. (This is known as a tease, in the industry.) Nero
  10. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/default.stm Click on the black and white image! Nero
  11. Save em up for Bonfire Night, or give them to someone who's got a real fire or burner. Nero
  12. Saw two blokes, very probably indeed gay, holding hands near to the hospice charity shop, about ten to seven. Was surprised, not shocked. Have seen this much in Old Compton Street but never in the 'burbs. It's notable because it's rare. Nero
  13. With whom she is smote
  14. Yes, I asked and they said they do. Nero
  15. It has Daily Mail written all over it, this one. And why not? It's so annoying when soemthnig like this happens. Nero

Why not try BBC London. Its online service might be interested in your experiences. It would then be written up and the URL would be placed next to the story. Nero
  17. I asked a woman whose name appeared on the Peckham Rye Park noticeboards why there was no water in the big, expensive-looking fountain near to the pond. She explained that it was put there as part of the Lottery Heritage fund, but that they are not planning to connect it to the water mains as they've had difficulties. I've now asked her whether she thinks it was a bit odd not to check out the water supply before the fountain was placed where it was. (I asked her this fairly and politely, acknowledging that she was only a representative and did not make the decision, in all probability.) I await her response, but I do feel really peeved that such an opportunity has been wasted. One for the Southwark Bugle, if you're out there Mr Hack. Nero
  18. GG, Where to begin? Well, let's just say, don't send any children you have to a certain piano teacher (*narrows eyes, nods head*), remember it's best not talk about reiki too much, if anyone mentions prams and buggies, affect an airy indifference and for your sake, don't let people know that you actually had to FLY HERE FROM DOWN UNDER. Remember all those, and you'll sail through this forum. Nero
  19. Anyone remember 'Rhoda'? That is worth the declaration of independence itself. Nero
  20. As I chatted to the nice young woman, we both concluded that that section of LL was a bit 'nicer', y'know, quieter and with more of a feel of space. It's Midtown, if you like, to fit in with Upper East Side. Nero
  21. I think the British were the ones behind instability in the Middle East, if you go back to the last century. And China and the United States became friends because of Nixon's bravery in the early 70s. China is just nationalistic and belligerent right now, which is not America's fault. Nero
  22. Peanut butter, space travel, pop culture, the teenager, the 'entertainment industry', fast food. Nero
  23. It's opening tomorrow. I walked past, having gone to Jacks and found it shut. I asked if I could have a quick snoop around, and a nice young woman let me in. It's great - spacious, light, with a lot of room in the back. They'll be doing tea, cakes, sandwiches and selling teapots, cakestands, cups, saucers, tea leaves, infusions. Nero
  24. No, I don't. Some of the schemes are said to be useless, ie. planting individual trees rather than forests. Why not lag your roof instead, resolve never to use a plastic bag, get a wormery, change bulbs, buy less stuff than you usually do, use your car much less, etc. etc? Nero
  25. Space Invaders are good. But not as good as Rancheros were. Or Spicy Knick Knacks. Wigwams, anyone?
