  2. And whilst we are on representation, it still bugs me no end that we've only 650 MPs and 24 million households and yet the Harpersons household and the Coopers/Balls household get two each....at least the Milliband brothers don't speak to each other nowadays. All these people will no doubt happily drone on and on and on about the need for our Parliament to be more representative of the 'people'.... lefty hypocrites shocker! Infact Harman has the cheek to drone on about Woman only lists before shoehorning her husband into a safe Labour seat.
  3. Is DC a toff? Probably by most people's definition -does that matter? Only to inverted snobs surely As I've said before, given that the only two actually anything near working class PMs this country has had (Major and Heath)were both Tories and the modern Labour party in parliament has the narrowest band of representation (practically all middle class Public Sector workers/unison officials with asmattering of Journalists or lawyers - or from Traditional Labour 'aristocracy' (and pretty posh), Millibands, Mandlesons, Benns, Harmans) then the tories as toffs is just left wing propoganda and reflects your own prejudices Ridgley. I'll dig out the occupation figures of MPs again if the latest has yet been published - I think you'll find that Labour and the Lib Dems has a far less broad church than the tories. The tories even have an ex-miner.

  5. I've always said that the Eiro makes esnse at the right time and with the right conditions. My issue, and many others, is that for pointing the flaws at its conception out (what Delors says) critics were branded, well actually slurred, as Europhobic, little englander, etc and no rational debate was allowed. The fact that even a broken clock is right twice a day meant that the UKIP and other idiots happened to be right on this too (but for the wrong reasons) didn't help the rational arguments against the Euro but these arguments were right and Delors and many others are now beginning to acknowledge this - still waiting for Hutton, although the Guardian is even beginning to move to a position of vague contrtition. I still disagree with you on the outcome in that although I belive now it is the their only hope from catastrophe and thus in their best economic interest, I don't believe that the individual countries electorates (including the UK) are ready to accept fiscal unioin yet and that poses ENORMOUS problems for europe. The problem thus far has largely been economic it's increasingly going to be political.

  8. Barbiturates - they seem to have lost their way in recent years. Are they due some kind of revival?
  9. Anyway Huge rather than argue with a horrible old bigot like me that the Euro was flawed from day 1, why don't you have a row with Mr Delors -[ that well known bigoted europhobic little englander.... Delors, Mea (and others) Culpa You going to move your throne away from that tide anytime soon?

Finally, I'd love to see you have the guts to say to one of the teachers, nurses, doctors, ambulance staff etc that were on strike on Wednesday they work "laughably short hours" to their face. ....the normal list and the normal heartstring stuff Actually, with the exception of ambulance staff, I think most of these groups do work reasonably short hours, have long holidays (teachers) or with raesonable overtime payments (nurses) for pretty decent wages. I think the good ones all do very important jobs but they aren't badly rewarded at all. And, doctors on the list you are having a laugh, clearly they work impossible hours during training but after that are prerty well set up pension wise and salary. Sacred cows.

...and whilst i'm on it, the rather quaint idea that the big buck earners in the banks are almost exclusively British and so will stay in the UK out of some sense of loyalty or being at home and pay say 60%+ (as some are suggesting on the left) when they can pay 30% in Singapore or Geneva or wherever is another cloud cukoo idea held by many on the left and on here (oddly even by some big bank employees ;-).

If you think taxing the mega rich is the answer then you're naive in the extreme in my opinion. Like we've enough of them who are british rather than the multiple foreighners who top our rich list(many of the rich brits may well be on their toes anyway - the rich don't tend to be that keen on paying loads of tax and there's always somewhere else wants their wealth - ask Denis Healey) And the Abromovitches and Mittals don't give a crap about british public sector workers they'll be off to Monaco or wherever. Nope thing are going to have to change wholesale and sooo many people are in complete denial about this. scrambling around clutching at various straws to get anyone else but ME to pay our collective bill rather than facing up to what we need to do as a country.

Selective quoting Taper - read my whole post you idiot....including a massive hike in basic pensions, which would probably net out far better pension for the poorest Public Sector workers anyway I'm looking for a race to the middleground not leaving 60% of the workforce with the state pension solely. The 'race to the bottom' slogan is a handy typical emotive Left wing slogan meaning "We're alright Jack, sod the poor and there's no debate" as far as I can see

Well apart from the 60% of private sector workers who have no current pension who would (with everyone else) see a trebling of their state pension. ...and the vast majority of those Private Sectors pension holders who have to buy an annuity now. The significant majority of pensioners to be.......or are you just thinking of 'your lot' rather than us all?
  24. Cross-post with Otta Listen it's only my old prejudice crap but it is just funny how so many more recent fans drop into the big 4/5. I've a mate from Hampshire who is very posh and is a fanatical Wolves fan because he liked their gold shirts when he was a nipper. I can live with that totally just casual home county fans of the obvious gets on my wick, completley. My problem folks.
