  4. IQ is a socially constucted and hence bias measurement of intelligence - discuss
  5. or Herr Intelligence?
  6. I think *Bob* got my point and Emerson completley missed it...there's no pedestal or worship or inherent value in what I'm saying but people who've made a lot of money on their own backs have by and large done a bit more than 'got lucky', although luck plays a part too. You can think their scum, you can think their tossers, you can think it's wrong or obscene...but they've got balls
  7. Oh I agree...Emerson, the money side is just an example for want of a better phrase 'living your dream etc' ...most people don't do it, unless sitting on a crowded train, working for w*nkers, living in a box that costs as much as a castle on the Isle of Skye for 4 weeks holiday a year and a bit of grub in Franklins once a week is your dream of course
  8. it was a typo it was meant to be "Their" , it was late...probably the end of this thread?
  9. er, A Daily Mail moment is when you find yourself agreeing with the DM rather than the Guardian...and on only having a big family if you can afford it, Reggie's with them....call me if you get stuck again Kel
  10. Not a heading but a fantastic first liner in an Irish freebie yesterday about the amateur astronomer bloke from Dublin who found an exploding supernova in his garden shed lab/telescope " Now it's not many Dubliners who'd rather find a red hot heavenly body in their garden sheds than their beds"....you wouldn't get that in the fookin metro.

    Double Dip??

I reckon we'll probably avoid a 2 quarter double dip....but we've years of austerity left to reduce everyone's debt....unless we inflate our way out of it - which is my suspicion of what will happen. Ireland/Spain/Portugal/Greece look like basket cases to me. Germany will own their ass soon. Thank god....and, rarely for me, Gordon Brown, we're not in the fooking Euro or we'd be in as bad a shape as they are.

I've met and worked for plenty of people who have made some serious money on their own back, including a couple in the top 20 Times list...and they all take risks and many have turned their backs on relatively prosperous conventional careers (wage slavery as they see it)or no=prospect dead end jobs. 99% of people just haven't got those balls. Where i'd agree is that many people in well paid professional jobs in the city/law etc etc owe much of it to their priveliged middle class backgrounds and educations more than their hardwork (though many work hard too) and heir intelligence. Traders are different though...their results are there, under scrutiny (unless they're french) on a daily basis, they're measured on proper results not how far up the arse of their boss they are.

  19. I agree - weekdays looks a non-starter and Sunday might be a day too many but I think allowing more stalls on a Saturday 'might' work
  20. I live on a connecting road and parking is a 'bit' of a hassle on Saturday and with 3 kids under 5 that's not always much fun...but there's often a space somewhere and practically always one just round the corner...the market's great and if people don't want an extension 'cos of impossible parking' that strikes me as a fisrtly an exageration and secondly Nimbyism.....
  21. actually it's menswear
