My soles are fine, my soul another matter. As Richard Hawley said it best last night, those girls on the cider bus are responsible for his sorry state I didn't see this post before I left on Friday but good to bump into you and Mr MadWorld, as well as a few others It is just the lovliest festival in the world. I've put some pics up here but some of my highlights: Kurt Wagner doing a solo set The pavilion being locked out and Josie Long and Rufus Hound keeping several hundered people entertained outside for an hour 8am this morning, Billy Childish (or someone VERY like him) and another American soul, staggering around an empty site, flagons of cider in hand, wondering aloud what time it was and how they would catch the next plane Dirty Three - rare festival attendees but electrifying live Random wanderings in the woods - including finding Calexico's Joey Burns on the quiet piano (pictured above with Lady Mac playing) just noodling away in the pre-noon chill Tons more Only 5000 people max, sunny weather, cider bus, music and comedy to beat the band... early tickets already booked for 2009

I saw Kings of Kong last night - oh me oh my. A whole cinema tent full of people howling, booing, hissing, cheering - it was the best documentary I have seen in ages. Ok, some of you might think 2 grown men fighting for 20 years about the highest score in Donkey Kong is pathetic. Which it might be, but do not mistake the film about the for the same. Genius

Already got my tickets fort that one gig girl. Cant wait. Saw kurt play solo at the end of the road festival at the weekend too

Of course I don't mean literally punching someone's face. There are security cameras everywhere.. As for I have lost count of the number of experts on radio and TV when asked (during the boom) how much longer can teh boom go on - surely it must busrt? And the response was always along the lines of "It won't burst, the economy is different and lessons from previous busts have been learned". I paraphrase mostly, but the "different this time" bit was used almost weekly -

A very cool head Or regulation I don't want to come over all TLS, but back to the days of smaller limits on salary-multiples I say -
Is that aimed at Jah's "It's" - I thought a contraction of "It is" warranted an apostrophe???

Has the housing market in ED reached its bottom yet?
SeanMacGabhann replied to ClareC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Agreed but given that these cycles ALWAYS come around, regardless of who is in power, why can't people learn a lesson. That way, the next time we are booming and some estate agent says to a couple worried about whatever policy they are selling at the time that "ahhh but it's different this time", it will be enshrined in law that we can punch that person in the face Woefully constructed sentence that, but still, you get my drift -

True, in the examples you mention people will be experiencing pain. But of the 2 people in that situation that I know at work it's entirely their own fault. The panicked into getting a mortgage, over-extended themselves, didn't listen to people who said teh whole thing could blow up in their face (you can guess who one of them was) so, at least for the people I know directly, sympathy is limited -
Has the housing market in ED reached its bottom yet?

How so? What has changed in their circumstance? They had x money for a y mortgage - they felt they could afford it. Unless x has dropped as well, or they NEED to sell, they should be able to carry on as normal, with teh probability that the property will within a couple of years exceed the mortgage value -

Don't knock renting - renting for most of my life has enabled me to move around and be much less tied to situations I'm glad to get away from. Not for the first time it's worth noting that most other European countries have traditionally had a much more relaxed attitude to house ownership although I believe this is changing (now that we have started buying up their property for "speculation") -

SeanMacGabhann replied to slummymum's topic in The Lounge
there's a bit of that giggirl, yes... Slummy's story reminds me of the first day I set foot in ED - we were coming from East London to check the place out and ended up getting a bus from Surrey Quays to Sainsbury's via Peckham - wandered on to DKH and down towards LL and saw a woman in distress outside KwikFit - I had no idea if she had been mugged, fallen over or knocked down by a car - but I did see 3 different blokes from different directions run to help her and thought "this could be my area". I still see little things like that all the time -

glad your sister is ok - but in my experiences "I'm less impressed with the response from ED police station which seemed somewhat indifferent but that's another story...." is the norm. On a good day. -
No worries benjaminty - If I was held responsible for posting when hungover I would be in trouble. And I often am (in trouble) On a more positive note, the Mail readers who posted comments seemed to disagree with the article as well
-
really benjaminty? Every single line drips with smug "don't blame us we are just reporting" and no mention is made of the calls recived by the same bodies to congratulate C4. Or indeed what any positives might have come out from such a programme Also, mentioning Mediawatch and what they have to say, without reporting their agaenda (MAry Whitehouse's ex mob) is a bit sly on their part as well Finally, to give credence to James on another thread, they report future shows as about "pregnancy, homosexuality and abortion" - which makes them sound like "problems"
-
Do 39 complaints constitute a flood? Why are so few people so listened to?
-
And there was me just about to agree with every line of ratty's post - and then the last line kicked in Fooked in what way ratty? I think the whole planet is on the brink of change unknown to us in our lives with the transfer of wealth and power eastwards. Arguably this country's history, diversity and size will all be assets in this change

I barely went to school at all - a Christian Brothers state school in Ireland until aged 16 - I have worked since then

has anyone seen the live concert shown on HBO of the Choncords? I have it on my hard disk somewhere
-
James I feel the need to counter that a tiny bit - I can understand why you might assume everyone is agin you - but to be fair to the general level of posting on here, I think there is more than a small amount of devil's advocacy going on. With Huguenot you can add more than a little "mischief" making as well Yes it detracts from the point you are trying to make but I suspect in the bigger picture, most people posting on this thread are on your side. If we start name-calling and attacking people it'll turn into a slanging match... Your case is strong enough for you to rely on it
