Bony Fido - I'd not seen that before - priceless! -
I'd have to have a better idea of what exactly your analysis amounted to quids... ;-) but is there any need to keep banging on about I mean, is there some un-PC forum you usually hang around which is much more fun and we should go and check it out??? As for the question I'm not even sure where it comes from - who exactly goes around calling people spinsters?? Or bachelors? And where exactly is it less acceptable for women to be single in their 40s? Am I hanging around with the wrong people? Again..

Thanks so much for that Piers - top notch stuff that line "We?re all to the point of ?Lord of the Flies." is lingering with me
-
ok ok I did actually say it - but what I MEANT was......
-
I'd need to see more evidence than that - that is pretty much the Standard line on hime and apart from the row with the reported I would say more minorities are on side than not unpopular and arbitrary schemes? Such as? Congestion charge? Popular with enough people to get him re-elected. Which also answers the "answes to nobody" accusation. he was also bang on about the tube privatisation deal but no-one would support him then - would have saved everyone fortunes

I thought Pacino was the model of understated acting in Devil's Advocate Oh, wait....

careful *Bob* - that's darn near a serious point -
Why would he evoke so much hatred in you Keef? - Just curious. I mean, what's he actually done as opposed to how he sounds or looks?
-
I thought it WAS Atila responding there the way that response started off Keef! I'm not saying Taylor intended it either - nor was it, by general standards in any way a specially horrible tackle. What happened was freakish and an accident and no way should he be banned for life BUT - just because those tackles are common-place (and someone like Arsenal's Ebou? is someone who does em too) doesn't mean it's ok - when Ebou? did it to Terry people were saying that before long something more serious would happen. It has. I'm not being a victim-mentality.. er.. victim here - it could have happened to any of the teams who rely on speed rather than muscle. I'm not saying it could only happen to Arsenal

good spot annaj As it happened I caught the end of their set and was actually impressed. But whether someone is knocking something or bigging something up.... be honest people!
-
I do apologise for my tardiness DM but even before I saw your plea I was already about to type up a glowing review Dustin is a legend obviously (and carries Ireland's hopes in this years Eurovision, bizarrely!) The guy who does his voice is also a minor priest in Fr Ted fact fans I can't comment on clangers as I have no knowledge of it at all

ditto them too karter. If I understand it correctly bus lanes and red routes deter shoppers? But you also say that it's small shopkeepers who can't compete - so if bigger business moves in (and I assume they check out the lay of the land before investing) why do these same lanes not prove a deterrent? -
Dan Simmons! - I've not read his Hyperion works or any of his sci-fi (ditto Iain Banks) but I've loved his other books - Carrion Comfort in particular I remember enjoying

well it would certainly work but I can imagine the outcry already! ("my job takes me into Laaahndan every day - how am I supposed to do 2-3 days a week?" etc)
-
a lot. but it will have to be with paddy power >:D

quids. come on the arguments have all been done to death on the other thread
-
Unsurprisingly I guess, this thread has been quiet. I'm still in shock after seeing that incident yesterday - the poor guy. Wenger was over the top calling for Taylor to be banned for life - but he was correct to say this has been coming the way people set out to hack Arsenal. And yes I know people will say it's a mans game, robust tackling this and that - but in those first 2 minutes yesterday I saw a lot of studs. I don't believe anyone set out to do deliberate damage - but it's become so accepted now that something like this was bound to happen. And yes also, some Arsenal players can be a bit handy - but if it makes clubs everywhere rethink some of their tactics then at least some good may come out of it But anyway - all the football talk seems trivial compared to what Eduardo will be facing in the future. That said I'll be supporting Spurs today - come on ye Spurs

Zephyr good post - and on an objective level tis a good topic for discussion. The development and evolution of the congestion charge (and whatever comes down the pipe to deal with a problem that is going to get MUCH worse) is a topic ripe for dicussion. Unfortunately it tends to get framed by people with mostly self-interest at heart The current system isn't perfect by any means. As you and PeckhamRose point out the shift to pollution means congestions increases and is also subject to inconsistencies That said what is actually important is the principle - tackling both congestion and emissions. As you poinit out the charge is arbitrary - but it;s hard to think of any system which isn't. TO look at the tube map for example it's littered with arbitrary nonsense - who decides where the zones start for example. But we have been living with it for decades and decades witho9ut recourse to petitions and angry phone ins to talk radio shows. In most aspects of life, rules exist to allow differing interests to co-exist. Arbitration. Which by definition means some of it is arbitrary Leaving aside your personal situation I'm interested in other ideas for tackling both congestion and emissions (from anyone) My preference is to avoid legislation and systems but to encourage people to drive less - but clearly that just doesn't work. So if you were in charge.....

The arrival of chains and the ability of Sainsbos to cash in has little to do with parking restrictions or otherwise I would suggest - if people want to go somewhere but are put off by parking restrictions/CPZs/bus lanes etc, does it matter if the shop in question is Fat Face or My Lovely Independant Horse? Was it really a CPZ that caused Forest Hill's problems? I would argue strongly against -
Peeps This has all been discussed to death already - have a read of this thread for example Woolwich Bookies
