  1. ah FFS Polly - really sorry to hear that, and after a honeymoon too Glad it was limited damage and hope ye aren't too put out - thanks for the warning too
  2. LtP You make a very good point about work the next day. With the BEST. WILL. IN. THE. WORLD. it isn't really possible to function post forum drinks. Or worse, a chance encounter outside, say, the Drum or EDT. This could be viewed as a good sign of the quality of company. As long as employers continue to indulge us... In a parallel universe I hear told that Keef is still suffering from Friday night. Me too...And I am venturing out once AGAIN tonight (Boothby Graffoe at the East Dulwich Comedy Club if anyone is interested) so I am not learning any lessons. Having a ball tho'
  3. I have mixed feelings on this one, but much as Marmora Man makes some good points, how about this for an idea Leave it alone. Dodgy working practices as outlined in the press... do I care? Royal Mail has operated just fine for years and this strike is not about money so why go stirring things up? I would argue it's more for Crozier et al to justify their positions rather than any NEED to do anything. I'm sure in the end many of the practices and inefficiencies will be rectified but to what end? Will Joe and Josephine punter get a better service? No (ummm... fact!) Much like the needless opening up of directory services, does anyone really believe we are now in a better place than when we just had 192 for free? I think some inefficiencies are, ultimately, efficient. The very people who think the EU has nothing better to do than tell the UK off for not using metric/banana shapes/whatever the Mail feels like that week, see to think that telling working people what to do is perfectly reasonable. It's not efficient to have multiple measurement units internationally but not too many right-of-centre people wish to adopt an obvious solution
  4. I tried more than most to frequent the place back in the day and still check it out from time to time... but they just haven't got things right yet. On a sunny day with the right people most of that doesn't matter and it is the perfect spot.. but one gets the sense that is exactly what they are relying on To be fair to some of the staff, I have had met some lovely people working there - but they don't seem to stick around. I make no further comment than that...
  5. At last - some clips of ED resident Mickey Flanagan have emerged on YouTube - this one at the Comedy Store even has some ED referenced (about 2 mins in ) MickY Flanagan This one, from Brighton has a great riff for us 30+ people who used to like clubbing Clah-Bing
  6. Its the feelings of warmth the drinks nights cause that i love so much. I look forward to buying some books soon. . . .
  7. hi Eddie ;-)
  8. did do yesterday but seems fine when I tried it just now....
  9. GG - sorry I didn't get to talk to you as much as I'd hope - the evening have a habit of running out of time. But I could see you were in good hands - she's a doll isn't she? CWALD - a quiet night in... ah If ONLY you had series 2 eh???? You were missed last night
  10. I thought I was managing my drink pretty well last night but judging my my head this morning I may well have been talking sh one t to people last night. Very sorry and all that but once again it was great to meet everyone, including some new faces - namely: Annasfield Giddiegecko Downsouth LostThePlot Ultraconsultancy (although strictly speaking he turned up to the birthday party so not quite a newbie among others. Might see people at various sporting events this weekend as well - cheers all :)-D
  11. PGR4 (out today folks) looks like it is a lot more fun than GT5 will be - I'm fed up of that game getting ever prettier and ever more boring (thanks for the concurrance tho!)
  12. I old enough to be beyond any "my console is better than yours" arguments so hopefully my reco will be fairly objective If I had to choose one, it would be the 360, purely on the strength of the catalogue of games. PS3 is embarrassing for it's dearth of unique quality software. The Wii I was impressed with but doesn't offer enough, on it's own, to warrant choosing above the others
  13. Sunday mornings, 6music, Natasha nuff said
  14. CWALD - just lent to Mockers but you are next on the list (if someone else doesn't supply you first)
  15. just "6" on it's own As for Sunday night, the website SAYS from 8pm but with the rugby being on I can't see it starting until afterwards (I take no responsibility for the accuracy of that assertion) I might now watch the rugby at the Hob and then tootle straight upstairs for the show Anyone? Anyone??
  16. not knowing where cafes are = a side-effect of driving everywhere ;-) Have fun at lunchtime girls
  17. (I think Mockers meant System Shocks.... but he already knows that...)
  18. or you could get the train to Denmark Hill Or use Mogs-Taxis - I hear they are free ;-) As for life and London.. I was talking to TillieTrotter of this parish just last night on the subject. When I first lived in London several years back I loathed the place from dawn til dusk and fled to the Devon countryside. Which was nice. For a little while. And I go back fairly regularly.... but in the end this is where it all happens. Back on topic - I may well be in the Phoenix and or Buddah Jazz from an earlier time to meet a friend coming over from East London but will still be at the Canning from about 8-8-30ish
  19. Yep - good to see the place packed Everyone on our team was needed at some point and everyone chipped in with important answers Ray Peacock to be host more often I say! Now, next visit is Sunday for a (now) rare Boothby Graffoe show
  20. Another Sean eh? I agree it's a pretty poor effort there - it has been 3 different companies/brands in the last few years but it's always been fairly dog-eared and expensive Pretty good range of world-cinema though... And one of the girls who works there suffered a pretty horrible encounter with an attempted robbery, so I hope it's not the one you are talking about...
  21. well said Horsebox.... and that season 3 finale still to come?? You lucky person
  22. both Mockney and I have given this a fair old go (and then Halo 3 came out) It's not perfect but it is very very good and has the best setting/atmosphere/feel of any game I've played. I would recommend it for sure..... it's just that gameplay wise it doesn't offer anything new (which is what most people have got upset about) Cracking sound and songlist throughout the city...
  23. 24. Azul - for one with so few posts you are fast becoming a forum legend for me! Unlike HeidiHi I actually love public transport generally, both conceptually and in practice* As for home-sapiens.... HeidiHi, I know things are pretty trough-like at the mo but you'll be fine, with faith restored soon enough. Start by coming along the Canning tomorrow night with the rest of us *apart from every so often when it all becomes. Just. A. Bit. Much. But that's life
