  1. Jah - heartfelt - just a shame that is word for WORD how Tony Blair phrased it to the cabinet before going in to Iraq (joke!)
  2. cover blown! I'm really not that bothered myself - although I could see how some other countries might be. It was the tone of the original petition/email and it's motivations (NOT Anna's post) which really got my goat (see also that petrol prices one some months back) Even if other countries are pressurising Britain into what can and can't be done, before we start to give out about it, keep in mind the pressure many countries (UK included) put on Korea re: dogs on menus when they were hosting the 88 Olympics and 2002 World Cup
  3. They are CLASS aren't they. Encore, snorky
  4. Hopefully the manager there will have words with his banking neighbours re: the cash points as well then I won't be on the Lane this weekend so updates on how it goes are most appreciated
  5. hello fellow supermarket-avoiders. And thanks for the update re: Page 2. I passed there on Sunday and saw it was completely closed.. wondered what was happening. Didn't they have a sister bar somewhere else? IN the end we had lunch in the Nuns Head which was fantastic
  6. Much of this is wise and true. . But its not britain s past that is represented by the red arrows at the olympics... Its its present as viewed by the world
  7. Its not like he had oodles of integrity to begin with but yeah. . He is ubiquitous and depressing
  8. Oh I'm definitely in agreement on that score Domitianus Realism re: bricks and mortar should be possible without going into a full scale recession tho - or am I being my usual hoplessly na?ve self?
  9. True Mark, true, but I don't think that many people in Iraq (on any side) have died in the last 5 years as a result of javelin hurling
  10. Marmora Man Your post is spot on - as far as it goes. I certainly wouldn't get that bothered if it happened tonight. Even if I had managed to get to sleep and they woke me up! The bigger question is (as an intelligent person like you well knows), given their role in raising funds for British defence/invasion, would the wider world (which is the audience for the Olympics) share such a benign view, given current world events? It's entirely possible to hold a position which cares not a jot for the rest of the world, but I would suggest that would make the holder of such a view less than ideal Olympic-decision-Making material
  11. just to try and clear this up I googled "olympics red arrows" Looks like the "story" has been doing the rounds for weeks and exposed as a hoax but oh. my. god. Talk about a depressing trawl through the British psyche The amount of people on these blogs who WANT to believe it just so they can say something like "what about that mosque - I'm going to set up a British petition to have it bulldozed!"
  12. weelllll at this point (post all the construction for 2012 etc and all that goes with it) I doubt an aerial display will make one bit of difference either way
  13. huzzah Haven't there been worse singer's than Kylie at opening's tho'? Diana Ross and the "penalty" springs to mind (and do I EVER wish it hadn't) I seem to remember The Shamen doing the half time entertainment at Highbury one afternoon in the 90s as well - mind you, back then that was an improvement on the football Anyway - Red Arrows. I get the excitement. But there is a debate to be had about Britain's role in the world, current events and if they are the best global ambassadors for Britain surely? Rather than hearing some blog-sphere rumour and signing a petition?
  14. Keef - I hope I didn't imply that you needed to state that - heaven knows I'm not trying to implicate you in any sort of way!!! (* feels the ground shifting benath feet *) i was referring to the line "but the petition still can't really do any harm, except possibly stir up some UKIP type shite" which could be taken as underestimating them a bit For the record, I'm not implying ANYONE on here is being fascistic - honest honest I can already feel this thread gathering a momentum it needn't - has anyone spotted the story on the main news sources? And Tillie why would you want to cry? :(
  15. Sorry Keef - gotta disagree. By perpetuating the rumour "just in case"(which is what signing the petetition or forwarding the email is doing) , it reinforces the already-entrenched-in-some-quarters belief that UK and/or it's "ordinary" people is/are constantly being meddled with/told what to do , and so, rather than ever cooperating with the EU, the Olympic commitee, the Government etc we end up with a siege mentality plus "possibly stir up some UKIP type shite" isn't something we should be doing lightly I would have said All of what I said will look silly if it turns out to be true - but then again I'm not really a fan of the arrows.. if I was participating in the games as an Iraqi I might not be too thrilled to see such excellent UK trade ambasadors (although I like the shapes and the flying dare-devil stuff) "Don't believe half of what you see and none of what you hear"
  16. whoooah - hold on people Where is the source of this story - I can only find it on the usual shite-stirring blogspots and until I know this to be fact I'm not signing anything (even if I believed for a second those online petitions did anything) Chain mails are one of the worst things to come out of the internet and email Sorry Anna - I know your intentions are probably good on this one but it all sounds a bit dubious so far. The EU publish a book refuting all the myths about them (straight bananas and what not) and it only needs to be published in one language....
  17. Indeed Asset - see also Northern Rock queues It's not that Domitianus is factualy wrong - but to keep labouring the point might just tip teh balance. I'm not saying we all go around with fingers in our ears going "la la la" either but, you know...
  18. It should be pointed out as well that the machine lordship_bod mentions is a new machine which, whilst an improvement on the old ZX Spectrum they were using, is often out of action but not obviously so. Ie no messages but it keeps you waiting for nearly 5 minutes before saying Operation Timed Out
  19. bogan is southern-hemisphere speak for some hybrid of hippy/crusty/chav types (as I understand it anyway)
  20. Rang both Barclays and HSBC this morning - both tremendously courteous and apologetic and they took my name and number and said they would address, but we'll see eh?
  21. I can't afford it but it doesn't bother me it exists - they seem to be trying something different and good luck to em I say If you can afford Fusion membership then there are many people who would say they can't afford that and be sniffy about it as well I like the fact that I can have a slice of toast in a caff or pay stupid money for afternoon tea in the Ritz should the opportunity arise... Tea, bread and exercise all cost next to nothing ultimately - it's the fact that we choose to consume them that creates such places. If people can afford more expensive luxury goods (after they have paid the amount of tax I would levy ;-) ) then fair play
  22. maybe I spoke a tad too soon - that was some comeback. But should they have been in that spot in the first place? Wish I'd seen the game mind you
  23. good spot Asset - typo on my part. But surely the calories come from the additives and starch in the shop stuff and not from the natural ingredients (and that's even if you take calorie counting seriously.... calories are just one part of body mass... oops strayed onto the patch marked "obvious")
  24. I know the feeling well CWALD ;-) I've been busy but well written stuff - cheers (it kind of - and not sure why - reminds me of the time you first came on here and were all combatative and then we gave you a big cuddle and look at you now ;-) )
  25. I have supported Jol the whole way but I can't see him surviving this - sorry Jah
